However, perpetrators do sometimes "inject" themselves into the investigation.
Have we considered a perpetrator or an accomplice somehow getting involved in the CSK case? Even giving WAPOL false leads perhaps?

I've started to wonder if the CSK (whoever he be) actually attended a victim's funeral. Perhaps parked and observed from a distance. Somehow got off on the grief. JMO

Whilst fossicking about for 1988 Cottesloe stories I found this mildly interesting story.

*snipped THEY ARE known affectionately as the Bobbies. Each morning at 7 o'clock, their 20 or 30 coloured bathing caps bob like beachballs on the water at Cottesloe beach in Perth. They have been coming for years, these salt-of-the-earth West Australian women, now in their 70s and 80s, mostly widows and mostly overweight. (The men and the thin women are mostly dead.) They park their cars under the Norfolk pines of Forrest Street just as the sun climbs above the branches. Sometimes the sky is tinged with pink. They come before the heat of the day, after the beach-sweeper has furrowed the sand into clean white troughs and laid out a string of empty yellow bins. They come as fishermen on the Groyne are hauling in the day's first whiting. They come while the water is as unruffled as a swimming pool out to Rottnest Island and beyond. They almost always beat the sea breeze (known to visitors as the Fremantle Doctor, but to locals never as anything but the "sea breeze"). Here is Perth the way it was. Here are the rock-solid people whose families farmed, trucked and ministered long before money talk came to the west. Most live in small units now. Their properties have passed into other hands, their old houses have bright new facades, bigger garages and higher fences. Life is far from finished for these women. "You'll only find busy people here at the beach," says Hetty. "Others can't find the time to come." "What are they doing, then?" I ask. "They're home, in bed." Cottesloe Groyne beach at 7 am is like a club with wide open doors. Everybody says "good morning". If you're a stranger, they might ask where you're from and offer sympathy. Swim past and listen to the talk. Each floating group will be discussing the same topics: election results, weather forecasts, the state of the water today compared with yesterday. There is plenty of chin-up breast stroke and some half-hearted overarm. Today is Jenny's birthday. The women tread water in a circle and sing Happy Birthday. There is a card from them all, waiting on the sand. Ev has brought the vinegar bottle, in case of stingers. The bluebottles come in with the northerlies, but do not deter the regulars. There are two groups of Bobbies. They are friendly, but leave their towels in two distinct clumps. One group is Bobbies at Cottesloe beach: lots of breast stroke and a little overarm.

On a bad day they may have dwindled to 5 or 10, and this happened every day of the year as well pylon to groyne swimmers, paid beach inspector, clubbies training or using gym, joggers etc. The story was published on Sat 25th June 1988, and the image must have been taken not long before that. Is it possible to get a closer shot of the image?

As far as I know Graylands is a public hospital. It's located in Claremont, but I think that part of of the suburb was once named Graylands.

The secure wing is called the Frankland Centre with about 30 beds for serious risk patients, mentally ill prisoners and offenders deemed too criminally insane to stand trial.

How likely do people think it is that the person who called the West Australian on 27 June 1988, claiming to be Julie Cutler and wanting to pass a msg to her father that she was OK but wanted to be left alone, is the same women reported to have been sighted in the back of the taxi coming out of Pippidinny?

I can't recall a woman being reported in the back of the taxi at Pippidinny. With the woman claiming to be JC, none of the family believed it was Julie. Nicole (sister) said she doubted the authenticity of a telephone call t the West Australian from a young woman claiming to be Julie and saying she was all right. "Ït could have been a crank call" saïd Nicole. Source The West Australian "Let her Go" June 1988.

However, Katich was asking for a man and woman seen leaving the function just after Julie to come forward and they never did. Also there a woman in little yellow car drive the 15 year old victim who was sexually assaulted near Balga TAFE to the Mirrabooka shopping centre a couple of weeks before JC disappeared, she also never came forward. Also Michelle, mentioned many times and possibly on the Jane Rimmer cctv.

To answer your question. I'd think both prostitutes and mentally ill patients have a tendency to take illicit drugs. Also, the general public are wary of both, aren't trusting of them and tend to treat them with disdain.

Hi CV - also prostitutes are often controlled by "pimps" who provide them with drugs. Mentally ill patients are possibly "controlled" by doctors who provide them with drugs. MOO

Disconnected from family, friends or people who care, financially insecure, unable to obtain or maintain appropriate medical treatment & often abusers of substances.

Hi Spooks - I think if a psych knows a patient is killing people they would have to tell police. Also they usually work alone and would never jeopardise their secret lives by disclosing what they have done to anyone - unless, of course, they kill that person too. MOO

Could you please post a link to where you got this info from? I have worked in the industry before and it's nothing like what you see in the movies. 1 or 2 in ten were drug affected but none homeless, all had families, friends and people that cared and most definitely were financially secure. Oh, and they had medical attention as they had to (sex work including brothel and escorting is legal in VIC) submit a letter saying they had been STI tested at least every 3 months (some did so monthly). I don't know about street work but brothel workers and private escorts work for themselves, not pimps, this isn't America.
