I am pretty sure it has been 17 in WA for a long time (and still is). L's at 16, P's/driving on own at 17. So December 1985.

What type of killing method would be your chosen technique for capital punishment ?
Its unfair if the only people given the lethal injection are convicted criminals .
Its actually not fair to those citizens that would like a lethal injection but don't want to have to do a terrible crime to get it .
I would like to try the lethal injection, preferably over electric chair or hanging .
Are there public services for a lethal injection,no? If not then its blatantly unfair to the rest of the population that convicted criminals get that special treatment.
It could just cause more violent crime..
It happens in some countries so they get a meal and bed ...

What's interesting is that there was a spate of murders which commenced in March 1986. Prior to those, there weren't any for a few years. The murders/abductions continued after the Birnies were in prison.

What could have happened just prior to March 1986?

Note: It looks like Sharon Mason (1983) has been accidently missed off the list

The alleged CSK left school 1985.
I'm guessing he got his driver's licence Dec 1985 or soon after.
And 1986 he probably began working, getting access to money and vehicle and the 'freedom' that comes with being out of school.

It has been advised beforehand that BRE worked for Telecom at the Ewing St, Depot. Then at a later date, worked at the Kewdale Rd Telstra building. For those overseas Telstra was formerly named Telecom.

Having a vehicle would have given him much more freedom. It's possible, he started driving on his birthday 7th December, 1985 or soon thereafter.

If BRE didn't have a vehicle perhaps he had access to one of his parents.

Any talk about capital punishment, in itself implies what your opinion of the accused culpability is over the alleged charges IMO.
Tagging a disclaimer at the end hardly changes the tone and inflection of the statements.
I believe this talk might make one vicariously liable for Sub Judice Contempt.
At the very least it only encourages an atmosphere of normalising vigilantism.
And security of transporting the accused to and from court would not be a subject to joke about for the Police.
I strongly suggest waiting till the court makes a finding of the charges either being proven or not before making such posts, IMO.
This is not a personal attack upon anyone's views. It's just a reminder to be aware of Chris Dawson's message that Police will probably not be very lenient, especially if the prosecution is derailed by social media, so please consider this post as helpful advice from someone concerned about you getting in the poo.

It’s a free country you don’t have to read my posts. But I still don’t understand why you felt the need to say people ‘must have lead sheltered lives’ because they don’t agree with your opinion. Whether that was directed at me or someone else I still think it’s an unnecessary and derogatory comment. I haven’t made derogatory comments or sling-offs at any posters, I’ve just disagreed or agreed with their opinions and called people out when in my opinion they’re making personal comments about other posters. I’ve only criticised perpetrators who’ve been convicted of vile crimes. In regards to this case I’ve only ever said the alleged CSK.

Fair enough, very good point re subjudice, I hadn’t thought of it in that way.
I don’t know if the alleged CSK is guilty or not because we haven’t heard all of the evidence yet and we won’t until the whole trial is over. Hence why I’ve been very careful to always write alleged CSK. My opinion on capital punishment is in general for brutal, multiple, serial cases and not specific to this case or the alleged perpetrator of this case. And I most certainly do not and have not advocated any form of vigilantism. I fully respect the police and the judicial system and their service to our community.
However like you’ve said any discussion of the topic could be considered to be subjudice so I will refrain from making any further comments on the topic.

My best guess is this:

The woman reported it as telephone cable. Police weren't able to identify it otherwise at the time or didn't try to because there was not much to be gleaned from any testing at that point. It got shoved in the file and left for many years. Subsequently when someone reviewed the case and file they took a closer look and realized it was actually clothesline, plus with better testing techniques they were able to ascertain that there was printer ink on it.

Just my guess, there are probably better theories.

Interesting link to the kimono from the 1988 Huntingdale attack, which I understand may have been taken along with other clothes from a clothesline.

On my laptop the Webslueths screen has gone blue and yellow. Periodically it does this. My guess is it's some type of back up software, whilst the administrators are performing maintenance.

I much prefer it when the screen is black and grey. At the moment I'm unable to reply with quote, insert an attachment or tick "Thanks". It seems, the more I use Websleuths the less functions I can perform. Perhaps my settings have been changed. I don't remember changing the settings though.
