Conrad Whitlock, 72, was last seen about 11.30pm on Monday at his Sandhurst home in Melbourne's south-east.

His car, a white BMW, was found on Mount Buller Road at the Victorian ski fields and police believe he arrived around 6am on Tuesday.

Whitlock's family are concerned for his welfare due to his age, but also said it's very unusual for him to be at the snow.

Conrad is about 170cm tall with a slim build and grey hair.

Info from the article at the link below:

It's a 3 hour drive from his home to Mount Buller. His car was found using the find my iPhone app. The car was also seen on CCTV where it was found. Since he arrived there at 6am, he'd have left home in the middle of the night.

His keys, phone and jacket were found in the car as well as the car keys. The car had fuel and no obvious mechanical issues.

His wife mentioned that he was having headaches and was getting it checked out. She hasn't seen him since getting to bed the previous night. They've been married for 52 years.

Possible sightings have been reported of a man walking along a road in Sawmill Settlement, which is quite a distance away from the location of his car. If that was him, he must have had help.

The police are asking for dashcam footage from other drivers between Mansfield and Mt Buller on Tuesday morning.

ETA: video of the police press conference. The potential sighting of a man with gray hair walking along the road was at 9am on Tuesday. CCTV from 6am did not reveal if it was him in the car.

His jacket was found in his car. Wouldn't the people who saw him walking down the road notice that he wasn't dressed for the cold weather?

Latest info on the search (BBM):

Up to 80 police and State Emergency Service volunteers are stationed in the community hall in Merrijig – a town of about 500 between Mansfield and Mount Buller.

But efforts are re-focusing around where the vehicle was located, about 20 kilometres from the town on the road towards Mount Buller.

"You could be within 10 yards of him and you wouldn't see him," Mr McCormack said. "It doesn't hold a lot of hope. It's steep and rugged country."

How Russell Hill, Carol Clay, Niels Becker and Conrad Whitlock went missing in Victoria's High Country

A mysterious Monday morning drive
Perhaps the most inexplicable of all of the High Country disappearances is that of Conrad Whitlock, who was about 30km from Vallejo Gantner Hut when he went missing.

The Melbourne businessman was driving up the road to Mount Buller early on the morning of July 29 last year when he stopped his car on the side of the road at a spot called Unnamed Corner.

He has not been seen since.

The story of how he wound up at Unnamed Corner is just as odd as his disappearance.

IMO he was either disoriented or he chose to disappear. He's likely just outside the search area. Was there any logical reason for him to be driving that route? Why would he leave the car at the particuar spot on the road? If he had a severe medical emergency, he would not have been able to get far and would have been found.
