Thanks for posting this. This article talks about a blue sedan being seen and Douglas Brian Jackaway being once considered a suspect. The prosecution says he was not involved in this article. I hope this blue car doesn't cause any reasonable doubt about someone else being involved in the crime. Although Cowan led to where Daniel's body was and it will be difficult for the defence to over come this.

What is the maximum sentence Cowan could get? I just wondered what length the jail sentences were like in Australia.

A standard non parole period of 20 years is the sentence for murder in Qld. The accused has other charges as well so a sentence for murder could be increased. It also depends on past history too.

Thanks marlywings for this information. Here in Scotland offenders can get sentenced to whole life terms for crimes like this. The European court of Human Rights suggested this was unlawful but thankfully yesterday the high court in London upheld the right for courts to issue whole life terms. They said the European Human Rights Court misunderstood the law and that defendants with whole life sentences could still have their sentences reviewed. All countries should do this in my opinion especially if like the UK there is no death penalty. Globally there needs to be the maximum sentence available for these crimes as a deterrent. Although nothing seems to deter these monsters they just can't resist the temptation.

Daniel Morcombe murder trial: accused killer Brett Cowan's ex-wife gives evidence
February 20, 2014 - 6:03PM by Marissa Calligeros

Tracey Lee Moncrieff met Brett Peter Cowan in 1998...The ex-wife of the man charged with Daniel Morcombe's murder says her former husband often stood on one leg, especially if he was leaning against a wall... Ms Moncrieff recalled hearing Mr Cowan return in the "later afternoon", about 2.40pm or 3pm...The couple divorced in 2004.

Four years later, Mr Cowan met Leticha Anne Harvey...On one occasion, she said, Mr Cowan drove her to a small macadamia farm in the early hours of the morning. "He drove through a back road, up through forestry to a small macadamia farm, where there were two demountable buildings and there was a large tree and there was also, like, storage and work sheds also in the area," she told the court. "It seemed very away from everywhere, secluded."...

Ms Densley said she also saw three people standing near the car.

“There were two people standing in front of the car and there was also a man standing at the back of the car,’’ she said.

She said the man at the rear of the car looked as though he was leaning on the back door.

“He put his head down and turned around so as if he didn’t want me to see him, that’s my impression,’’ she said.

“Heavy-set build, sort of balding head, with some grey or white hair at the back, a bulbous red nose.’’
