Outside the court before Bruce spoke, he paused and looked lovingly down at Denise and whispered if she was alright. She looked up and nodded, yes.
I'll never forget that moment.
Denise had been crying & her eyes were so very blue, she looked shaken and exhausted.

Many marriages fail during such an horrific incident but it is so obvious this gentle caring couple deeply loves and respects each other.

Many parents throw in the towel, this couple have picked up the towel, put it back around their neck and shifted up a gear.

What wonderful people.
I'm so sorry.

Beautifully written 🤬🤬🤬

Cowan was once the target of a revenge attack by the brothers of a 14-year-old girl he was accused of raping.

The brothers tried to ambush the pedophile in Clayfield in 2008 by calling for a tow truck but the wrong driver showed up.

The driver was beaten with a wrench until the men realised they had the wrong person. They told the young driver they had planned to kill Cowan.

Police made contact with Cowan just two weeks after Daniel’s abduction because of his criminal history.

At the time he admitted to driving past the Kiel Mountain Rd overpass when Daniel would have been waiting for a bus.

Can we collectively pray at Websleuths that the Morcombes sleep a full wonderful 8 hours sleep tonight knowing that that animal can never hurt another child.

What a wonderful outcome today. The Morcombes (parents and kids, especially Daniel's twin) deserve some breathing space now to process what has happened. I can't imagine how infuriating and draining it was for them to sit in the same room as that animal.

Bless their hearts, and their weary heads. Now let's hope the judge does the right thing regarding sentencing.

I am not surprised at his past history, apart from the number of victims he has apparently confessed to. I hope at least some of them now find the strength to come forward to extend his stay in jail for as long as possible. He never ever ever deserves parole - look at the damage he has inflicted after been granted such leniency in the past. Times like this I wish for capital punishment, or 'prison justice'.

Thoughts with you, Morcombe's.

I strongly suspect he will indeed receive 'prison justice'!! He must be one of the most hated men in Australia at this point in time.

I knew someone years ago who was involved in arresting the WA serial killer David Birnie - let's just say that what happened to him once he was caught was on a par with the horrendous things he did to women.......

I'm sure that Mr Brett Cowan will get his.

And now I'm not going to give that creep any more of my energy!!

I'm turning to love for the Morcombe's instead!

Why the trial could have been aborted - twice

The trial was almost aborted on two occasions after Cowan's defence counsel made two applications for mistrial.

The first came after News Corp's The Courier-Mail published a photograph of Cowan on its front page on February 21 with the headline "Daniel's killer". The headline, the defence claimed, prejudiced its client.

The second application for mistrial from Cowan's defence team came after the jury's visit to the Kiel Mountain Road overpass, where a memorial for Daniel stands.

A note left at the memorial told the jurors no one could rest until "he" was convicted

Defence forms basis for its appeal

Fairfax Media understands the two mistrial applications will form the basis of Cowan's appeal.

This article is comprehensive in its coverage IMO. It covers the court process today as well as contains photos of the Morcombe family, Daniel's Funeral and a brief biopic of his early life for those who wish to get a 'snap shot' without reading all the posts in detail ...
(need to scroll down through long article)

Daniel Morcombe verdict: Brett Peter Cowan's criminal past
Marissa Calligeros March 13, 2014

"...The trial was almost aborted on two occasions after Cowan's defence counsel made two applications for mistrial"..."Fairfax Media understands the two mistrial applications will form the basis of Cowan's appeal.
It is understood Cowan will also appeal his conviction on the grounds that he was wrongly coerced into a false confession by means of the undercover police operation"....
"The pending appeal will no doubt create lingering unease for the Morcombe family".

I would love to know who will be funding his appeal.

The first police officer to interview Queensland teenager Daniel Morcombe's killer says there were systemic problems with the way the case was investigated

Former Queensland Police constable Kenneth King interviewed Cowan two weeks after the Morcombe family reported their son was missing.

"I thought he [Cowan] was a red-hot suspect," Mr King has told the ABC's 7.30 program.

The former officer, who left the police service in 2008, said the officers heading the investigation had not taken his initial reports seriously enough.

Mr King says he has decided to go public with his concerns about the handling of the case because there are lessons for police and the judiciary to learn.

"It's my view that the one reason why Daniel Morcombe is dead, other than the actions of the offender, is that the inadequate sentencing that led him [Cowan] to be free in the community," he said.

It's a matter of immense public interest and it's important that both the family and the public have an accurate record of the history of the matter.

Cowan was suspect no. P7 at the inquest, they had him then.

Daniels inquest 2nd Apr 2011

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Zb_ZtykhMYM Channel 10 report shows P7

Cowan was suspect no. P7 at the inquest, they had him then.

“You, with this extensive history of kidnapping boys … happen to be in the very place at the very time that this once-in-a-lifetime event occurs. Unbelievably unlucky, would you agree?”

P7 replied: “Yep.”

“So the 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 who did this … not only happened to do this unfortunately while you were driving right by but you're unlucky enough that he actually looks like you as well,” Mr Johns said.

P7 shrugged his shoulders.

Justice has been delivered to the Morcombe family today. GUILTY: CONVICTED ON ALL THREE COUNTS.

Thank God for that! Thank you for for this news Fuskier and for all your updates. I hope Cowan is in jail for as long as possible without parole and that he is closely monitored as a sex offender when released. More needs to be done about the sentences of child sexual predators and killers in Australia and around the world.

I just wanted to add that I am hopeful the judge will get the sentencing right on Friday and give this monster the maximum sentence available. This article states by age 18 Cowan had preyed up to 30 children. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-03-13/brett-peter-cowan-has-a-lengthy-criminal-history/5318564 I hope people campaign so that he is never released due to the danger he poses to children.

I read this article from the Sunshine Coast Daily and Ms Johnson from the Braveheart's foundation who said, outside the Brisbane Supreme Court on Thursday, "the guilty verdict should be a catalyst for change to ensure Daniel Morcombe had an everlasting legacy"

"If there is any doubt that these type of people could reoffend then they should not be released," she said.

"If that happened in this case Daniel would still be alive today.

"These offenders are released from our courts on a daily basis and it must stop.

"Daniel did not have to die. He should be here today if the system got it right."

http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/news/daniel-would-be-alive-today-if-it-were-not-system/2198245/

I hope there will be a Daniel's law so some good can come from this tragedy.

Daniel's parents and his twin brother are wonderful people their courage in the face of evil is amazing..

I'm hoping that he gets life without parole. He is a danger to society with virtually no hope of ever changing his ways.

Daniel Morcombe verdict: His parents' message to their son's killer
March 14, 2014 - 12:01AM by Marissa Calligeros

Mother's intuition:
"...Mrs Morcombe recalled the afternoon her twin son, who had been born eight weeks premature, was taken from her.
"At 4pm, Sunday the seventh of December 2003, while getting Daniel's clothes off the line I knew something was wrong," Mrs Morcombe wrote in the statement read by Crown prosecutor Michael Byrne QC.
"Daniel wasn't due to return to the bus stop until 5.30pm, but for some unknown reason I was anxious. Hence, I went to see if he was there at 4.30pm.
"I don't know what it was, but I knew when Bruce returned home soon after 5.30pm from the bus stop without him, I knew I would never see him again."

Excerpt from Bruce Morcombe's victim impact statement:
Looking Cowan squarely in the eye, Mr Morcombe told his son's killer he had been exposed as an "opportunistic, perverted, cold-blooded, child-killing paedophile"..."Central to the facts are not whodunit, but you-dun-it." ...
