If heckling is the worst Cowan has to deal with, he is a lucky man. Luckier than any of his victims.

THE nightmares are always the same. Arms outstretched, the little girl reaches up to her, crying for help.
A former girlfriend of Brett Peter Cowan has told how she fears for the fate of a little girl left alone in his care in the weeks leading up to his attack on a boy at a Darwin caravan park
Then, in 2003, she saw Daniel Morcombe on TV. Something about him reminded her of the boy from Darwin. And she and Cowan used to hitchhike from the spot he vanished from. She phoned police. Wrote them letters.
Then the nightmares started. Who was Crystal and where was she now? In her dreams the little girl would call out to her for help. I just need to know she is OK, Tracey said.

What was the relevance of that encounter at Cowan's during Christmas? Where he took a piece of ham and it resulted in an argument with his brothers... am I missing something? It seems a bit arbitrary to bring it up.
I remember going to his parents place on Christmas Day, she said.
We were standing there in the kitchen and his mum was chopping up the ham. I specifically remember him (Cowan) grabbing a piece of ham and his brother slapped his hand away. There was a big argument and the boys went out and had a bit of a scuffle.

A former parole officer says it was his decision to move the man who killed Daniel Morcombe from a prison in the Northern Territory to Queensland.
He says he was certain Cowan would re-offend if he was released without treatment.
"It is history now that it was not successful but I had to try something," he said.
"My job is not to protect the crim, my job is to protect the community.
"To protect the community I wanted to have all bases covered but, unfortunately for Daniel and his family, we stuffed up.
"If we had a sexual offenders treatment program in the Territory at the time ... he might have stayed here and maybe it wouldn't have happened."
"I felt so sorry for the Morcombes because I knew I was the one who sent him there," Mr Drew said.

It does seem kind of 'plonked' into the article!
That's due to bad editing IMO.
I think that the ex-girlfriend told the story to illustrate that all was not idyllic in the family. It's not normal for adult males to go outside and have a physical fight about a piece of ham.......that's what she was trying to demonstrate, I suspect.
But it's just a badly structured piece of journalism so the point isn't clearly made.MOO.
I thought that was what it was trying to illustrate, but wasn't sure. I know families that fight over food, but to go outside and have a physical fight over it... now that's just a whole new level of uncivilised, especially considering they were grown men.
Maybe Isisrising could tell us that there maybe underlying issues.
Many old family feuds erupt at Christmas.
Example: 'good citizen brother' can't stand 'pedophile brother' and it was the sight of a pig being carved that was the catalyst.
:moo:
Channel 9 Today show said Bruce Morcombe is calling for change in the criminal justice system and wants past crimes revealed to jurors. Good call Bruce!
