He had a weapon, his victims were asleep and also small, and two of them were just children .. I don't think the jury is going to be too swayed by this 'physical size' argument.

Ikr? such a silly excuse from defence why he couldn't have done it, almost laughable.


Xie not built for murder, defence says

Disputing how a 170cm, 63kg 'amateur' could kill five people is key to Lian Bin "Robert" Xie's defence in his murder trial, Mr Xie’s lawyer Graham Turnbull said in his opening address.

He said Mr Xie’s physique would make one question: “how an amateur could do such a thing” to five people in the dark, on his own.

"Mr Turnbull said the Crown's "three-pronged motive" – sexual desire, financial gain and feelings of resentment towards his in-laws – showed the difficulty the prosecution was having in finding a motive for such a violent mass murder.

Witness A will testify that Mr Xie discussed a method by which he disposed of the murder weapon and a plot known as "plan B" by which Mr Xie would allegedly frame dead people for the murders by planting their DNA at the crime scene or on a murder weapon.

But Witness A could not say that Mr Xie confessed to killing the five Lin family members, Mr Turnbull said."

Just when I thought this story couldn't get any worse. That poor,poor girl. The sick depths that people will go to to satisfy their own perverse sexual desires is frightening. I can only hope that a lot of support and a lifetime of love from the remaining good people in her life will help her heal.

I have tried 60 minutes archives and unable to find the episode. It is called Brenda's Story, and would likely be from 2009, but it does not come up. Maybe it has been removed due to the trial.

So, not much reported from today ...

A former neighbour of the Lin family told the fourth day of Xie's trial that the morning the bodies were found she heard loud "Asian voices" outside the Lins' house, and noticed a man and a woman who appeared to be arguing.

She said she noticed a man drive away a short time later.

The crown alleges Xie took his wife Kathy to the Lins' home after receiving phone calls about Mr Lin not turning up for work.

It is alleged Xie knew the bodies were inside the house, but pretended to be shocked after finding them and drove off, leaving his wife to wait for emergency crews.

It really is beyond belief. One night last month in a quiet and respectable Sydney neighbourhood, five members of the Lin family were murdered. How could it happen? They were just a normal family. Fairly typical suburban shopkeepers, friendly, well-liked and they didn’t seem to have an enemy in the world. Yet someone, for some reason, wanted them all dead. And the police, their friends, their neighbours – all of us – are still asking, why? More than anyone, that question must haunt the sole survivor of the Lin family tragedy, 15-year-old Brenda. As you’ll see though, she’s an astonishingly calm, composed, and mature young woman.

No court today for Xie ... but I just looked at the court list, and he is scheduled for every day next week .. 10am start each day. And every day the week after that too.

Mr Tedeschi said that, in the 12 months before the alleged murders, which took place in the early hours of July 18, 2009, Mr Xie "groomed" a young female relative, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Mr Tedeschi said Mr Xie twice engaged in "inappropriate sexual behaviour" with the relative, which indicates he had a "clear sexual interest" in her.

Soon after the killings, Mr Xie allegedly began sexual abusing her on a regular basis, Mr Tedeschi said.

The female physically resisted the assaults but was overpowered by Mr Xie's superior strength.

I remember she lived with them right after the crime though, because I for one was appalled by it.

Just after 9:00 am on May 5, 2011, Brenda's uncle Lian Bin "Robert" Xie, 47, was arrested without incident at his home in North Epping, following an extensive investigation. Brenda had been living with Xie and his wife Kathy Lin since the murders. On 19 December 2012, Robert Xie was committed for trial.[SUP][1]

I can't get my ahead around the fact that she came back and moved in with Xie and his wife, especially if he was a suspect for any length of time. It's truly unbelievable.

The head of the homicide squad, Detective Superintendent Peter Cotter, had said the girl's safety was always put ahead of one of the largest homicide investigations in NSW history.

Yesterday victims of crime advocates were convinced police would not have endangered her.

Police officer chokes back tears in court as he recalls horrific Lin murder scene

One of the first police officers on the scene of the Lin murders has fought back tears in court as he recalled the traumatic day.

Mr Kirby told the court the injuries were so extensive he believed a shotgun had been used at close range.

Mr Xie’s attorney Graham Turnbull asked Mr Kirby: "(Is it) fair to say you're affected to this day about what you saw in that house? Including two dead children?"

Robert Xie trial: Norman Lin's father breaks down after giving evidence about family murder

The father of Sydney newsagent Norman Lin has broken down outside court at the trial of the man accused of violently murdering Mr Lin and four other family members.

Yang Fei Lin said he and his wife Feng Qing Zhu played a major role in taking care of all of the grandchildren when they were young.



Yang Fei Lin said while he was sitting on the grass with his wife, Xie's wife Kathy Lin told them bodies had been found in the house.

He said while they were still sitting there, Xie started to talk to them about the guardianship of another female family member.

Lin patriarch saw Robert Xie ‘loitering outside female relative’s bedroom’ after family murders

THE man accused of killing Sydney’s Lin family over a sexual motive was seen loitering outside the bedroom of female relative late one night after the murders, a court has heard.

Mr Lin said one night he got up to go to the bathroom when he saw Xie standing near the young girl’s bedroom.

“When Robert saw me he told me ‘you just scared me’,” Mr Lin said.
