Woman’s body found on Wahroonga walking trail​

Officers were called to a walking trail near an affluent Sydney suburb following reports a woman’s body had been found.

The woman was found near Cliff Oval, a sporting ground in North Wahroonga, at 12.40 on Thursday.

A member of the public found the woman’s body on a nearby fire trail and reported it to police.

The woman has yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged in her 40s.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death has begun.

The remains were uncovered by a children's rugby coach on a fire trail near Cliff Oval, a sporting ground in North Wahroonga, at 12.40pm on Thursday.

'Officers from Kuring Gai Police Area Command were called to Cliff Oval on Daly Ave, North Wahroonga, after reports a body had been found,' a NSW Police spokeswoman said.

'She is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged in her 40s.'

John, who lives on Daly Street, told Daily Mail Australia that he that he feels saddened that such a tragic thing happened.

'My first thought was that she had a heart attack or something, but a detective told me last night that it's being treated as suspicious, so I suspect there's someone out there who's trying not to get caught,' he said.

The woman’s body was discovered on a fire trail near a bridge in between Goldern Jubilee oval and cliff oval Wahroonga.

A detective was seen on Friday morning scouring underneath the small bridge.

More forensics officers and police officers are scouring the bushland today.

The area has been cordoned off and treated as a crime scene.

Police are yet to determine the cause of death and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Update

The woman is yet to be formally identified, but is believed to be 47 and from outside the area.

A local resident said the rugby coach did an 'exceptional job' of protecting the children from seeing the body.

'I am so incredibly grateful to them for absorbing the burden of this horrific event and keeping children safe at all costs,' she wrote in a local Facebook group.

'Such a dreadful scene to uncover.'
