Francisco Sebastian Rebelo was last seen leaving his Hubble Street home in East Fremantle about 4.30pm yesterday. His distraught family joined a search involving dozens of SES volunteers and police but so far there has been no sign of the 88-year-old. The search has concentrated on streets near Mr Rebelo’s home and extended to an area near Fremantle Port and the Flying Angel Club.

The 88-year-old speaks Portuguese, uses an aluminium walking stick, has olive skin, a stocky build and is about 168cm tall. He was last seen wearing a black leather jacket, grey trousers, a denim cap and black shoes and he is known to spend time around the centre of Fremantle. Police say he suffers from dementia and may appear confused.

He was among the first migrants from Portugal to to arrive in Fremantle by boat 65 years ago and had been a fisherman all his working life. His name is engraved on the Fremantle museum Welcome Wall.
