Australia Australia - Janine Vaughan, 31, Bathurst, NSW, 7 Dec 2001

Just weird that a find like that wouldn't go directly in the local newspaper like they usually do.

That's a really interesting article from The Australian, in your post #353 ... maybe they'll address it tonight in the Q&A session.

A man, who recently spoke with the family of murdered Bathurst woman Janine Vaughan about her disappearance, on Monday found a human jaw bone on the banks of a local creek while walking with his son.

The human remains were discovered near the historic Bridge Hotel in the village of Perthville, about 15 minutes south of Bathurst, in the NSW central tablelands about 2pm.

After picking up the bone, the local resident took it to his mother, a nurse, who identified it as a human jaw and he drove it in to police and made a statement.

Bathurst Mayor Bobby Bourke told The Australian, which has been reinvestigating Janine’s unsolved murder, that all work on a levee being constructed on the banks of Queen Charlotte Creek in Perthville had been halted as a result of the discovery.

“I’ve been advised … that a member of the public has identified at the Perthville levee construction site what may be a human jaw bone. Details of where it came from and how it came to be on the site are unknown. NSW police have commenced an investigation with council staff and contractors assisting as required.”

I can't find anything about the finding of any bones recently in the Western Advocate.

Wow, hope some family gets some answers.

So it isn't something new ?

It's more of the historical remains like they found in 2011.

I couldn't read it either, even when I deleted cookies as it's a subscriber only article.

Police investigating after human jaw bone found at Perthville ...

www.westernadvocate.com.au › News › Local News
3 hours ago - A HUMAN jaw found at Perthville on Monday afternoon is believed to more than 100 years old. Police confirmed the bone, found by a man walking along a levee bank under construction, was human but said initial forensic examination suggested it was the remains of an ancient indigenous person.

I didn’t get a chance to watch this. How did it go? Anything interesting?
It was interesting. It was mostly about the making of the podcast. On the sleuthing side, what I got out of it was ...... between 2007 and 2009 there were 47 persons of interest (Strike Force Mountbatten)
(Strike Force Mountbatten was formed in October 2006 to investigate the disappearance of the 31-year-old menswear shop manager). That total of 47 suspects was dwindled down to 3 (I think that was from the Coroner's inquest). So, the last men standing in the line-up were AJ, DB, BH. Sounds like Hedley has totally ruled out BH. They are following up more leads now. A new episode will be out on Friday.
I'm so curious to find out how many details of these 47 suspects cars (re pink tinge/salmon colour), clothing on the day, car accessories, watch/bracelet, matched LB's description, can't find it anywhere! Let me know if anyone finds out, I'm so curious if there was a complete match.
Kylie talked about the bone found from the Perthville.

just random thoughts....

Free drinks at the OX sounds about right usual bar staff country town wind down. Partiers (good lookin girls)in the cool circles are always welcome on the low down to these hours.
Janine having no money'purse it appears was keen to get the party started again. (I laugh out loud thinking about her at 31 still like this...on a work night! :D my body stopped all nighters about 21 :p)
My gut can't shake the idea that it was somebody on the way to the OX free drinks post work so either someone knocked off from the tav or knocked off from the OX. Its not as likely a man would be welcome to free post work drinks unless he is a part of the work crew/scene......

and my other thought....Janine was simply way too cool for the churchy living in the boys home chemist. I just don't see her getting in his car no matter what he could have suggested.
Not when she is in the company of friends ....even irritated about the phone call I think she would have only jumped off for someone whom she was impressed with (hot/attractive?? or offering her entry to the party scene she heading too).

Another thing that bothers me is tied to the above thoughts....
Growing up in a town like Bathurst and visiting in my youth PLENTY of towns of equal status....closing times are the same are the same are the same.......everywhere.

Post drinks with the bar staff is pretty well known.
It is totally possible a random stranger was in Bathurst maybe for work, over night passing through whatever who knows how closing time works....
Seeing Janine ready to keep the party going he could have had eyes for her all night at the tav.....bluffing his way to the next shindig?

Whom ever she gave her number to is key to her disappearance IMO.

That's my feelings about it after listening to the chemist episode.

Here's a site that has transcripts of the first 5 episodes ( so far )

Transcript of Episode 5 - Bad Denis from The Night Driver | Happy Scribe Public
Thanks for those, and I'm working my way through them.

Does anyone think Janine could have been mistaken about whose car she was getting into? A car that looks like Trevor's pulls up, she assumes that Trevor is also on his way to the Oxford (were staff from other local pubs welcome for that?) and that he's offering her a lift. It's raining, dark, she's drunk, and perhaps she jumps into the car without looking properly at the driver.

Ha ha, retired at 21 from the all nighters :) Hadn't thought about that, but yeah, 31, no special occasion, good point. The Pharmacist is a pretty interesting episode, have played it quite few times. Totally agree, whoever gave the phone number could hold the key to her disappearance.
Where I'm at now, I just can't get past the detail about the car having a pink tinge to it, or salmon pink ..... and the people who have described it that way are the ones who really know their cars .... add to that LB was a car detailer by occupation, so I don't know, that little detail makes me rule out AJ, as his car had no pink in it, from what I've been able to find and heard in the podcast. MOO

Today I finally got the time to listen to The Pharmacist.
Was interesting re the hair colour of the women offered a lift.

Was just poking around in the archives and came across this, little bit of info from 2003 re AJ.

21 Feb 2003 - What do people do before college? - Andrew Jones - Archived Website - Trove

Did AJ ever become a minister? If not, I wonder if the publicity around his possible involvement played a part?

Another thought, I wonder if he could have possibly gone to bible college to disappear from the Bathurst limelight or to divert suspicion away from him (create a good Christian minister image)?

  • #377
Didn't AJ say he was advised never to become a priest, or something like that ? I took it to mean that he wouldn't have suited the lifestyle.

Possible, sure. I've got no idea if he became a minister, good question, I'd like to know that too. He has been described as deeply religious from the get-go.
Hey, I found this article, it's really interesting, just popping the link here if anyone wants a read, it's about the suspects for the Claremont serial killer. Now, this fellow Williams, h'mm, I think he kind of sounds a bit like the AJ character here! It's interesting looking back at the suspects now that we know who the real killer was ..... and it sure wasn't any of these poor guys! Look, there was even a mayor suspect!!! In this one we have a Deputy Mayoro_O .... Edwards only became a suspect with the DNA match, I believe in 2016. Unimaginable horror, hey, of having to go through life with everyone thinking you're a killer, prime suspect in a murder investigation ..... hope this gets solved soon for everyone's sake ..... MOO
As a serial killer terrorised Perth, suspicion turned to the mayor, the taxi driver and the public servant

Episode 9 was super interesting. H'mm, so JT, who was 2nd in charge of Strike Force Mountbatten, says they narrowed the list of suspects down to 10 people, and the coroner chose the final three that we've all heard about. What was interesting was that JT seemed to be inferring, when he said he had a gut feeling about who did it but had no physical evidence, that it wasn't one of those three .... someone else in that top 10. Oh boy. I'd love to see that list of 10 o_O
