Australia Australia - Janine Vaughan, 31, Bathurst, NSW, 7 Dec 2001

The second cctv is about 20 minutes to half an hour before Janine leaves the hotel. I think the first one might be around the same time too, and JV still hasn't left the hotel. Make sure you click the unmute button as Kylie does some narration on both of them. I'll have a look at what you've mentioned, been focusing mostly on that fella, but wow, sounds interesting!! Actually no-one I've seen outside the hotel looks capable of driving a car at this point, except that guy in the white shirt, but there could be others .... MOO
its the girl with her arm holding onto the rail in the middle of the area. whoever she is looked like she made some kind of transaction with a dude and interaction with another then waited. see what you see o_O

I couldn't see yet him dropping something been focused on right half/side of frames.
just studying that side first cause I wasn't sure if JV is in it or not ?

Leave a light on to remember the missing on Wednesday

Households and businesses across the country are being asked to 'Leave a Light On' on the evening of Wednesday, October 21, to raise awareness of missing persons.

The concept was launched in South Australia in 2015 but has since spread nationwide, literally shining a light on an issue that affects tens of thousands of families each year.

Ah yeah k-mac, I see what you mean .... h'mm, quite possible. Another possibility is he was asking for some money to buy a pack of cigarettes or something from in the hotel, if they had those machines in the foyer or something, because he heads back inside straight after, so maybe to buy something?

Can anyone see if the man with the rolled up sleeves is wearing a watch, or something on both wrists?
Unfortunately his sleeve falls down later, or he pulls it down, so harder to see.

Just been watching the cctv again. This man who's on the footpath at the start of the clip titled "another little snippit", and walks into hotel, is that the same fella who comes out a little later then talks to the lady, or a different guy? H'mm.

Was having a look at the other cctv called "Please Help", and saw this fella again, he comes out of pub and seems to be observing. Not sure of the time span between this clip and the other one though, would be interesting to know. Has this man been identified in the Night Driver Podcast Facebook Page?

Spontaneous thought. It would be good if they could release an image from the cctv and maybe put an 'x' over all those who have been identified and spoken to, then we could see who's left and people could work on locating and identifying those people who remain unidentified. End of spontaneous thought.
Second spontaneous thought. So, if we're going by LB's description, we're looking for someone who has a wrist watch and an ID bracelet, and is on the tall/big side .... who meets that criteria from the footage? There must be more CCTV inside that can verify these little details that hold great importance to the case. End of second spontaneous thought.

What occupations back in the day in Bathurst 2001 required a worker to wear a white shirt and black trousers, and would have you finishing up work around 3, 4 am? H'mm ....

I just finished the podcast series.

Reading between the lines, I think LE sees the pharmacist as the top suspect of the three known POI. I’d love to know what they know about his background.

I think there is a strong chance it wasn’t one of the three. I think that in all the circumstances of that moment, it can’t be ruled out that she got in the car with a stranger or almost-stranger. People occasionally do things against their habits, and I’ve certainly known rational people who have made irrational decisions in the wee hours.

Agree, Tighthead. The big mystery is, why didn't LB pick him out of the photos? Maybe the police showed her footage too, of AJ, behind the scenes, and she probably saw other images of him over time ... but no, didn't pick him out. She seemed to have such an eye for detail, so that's pretty interesting. And yet we have these other people saying it was definitely him trying to get them in his car, one hundred per cent him ..... it is puzzling. Maybe AJ was just trying to find recruits to follow his religious beliefs in those instances, hey, no idea .... but yeah, why didn't LB pick out AJ as the night driver .....

It’s dark, she’s on edge. They hypnotized her so her memory couldn’t have been great (also compromises a witness in some jurisdictions).

Yep, it was dark and she was on edge for sure, but hey, she remembered a lot of things before the hypnosis. Before the hypnosis she remembered he was a big fellow, sleeves rolled up or short, hairy arms down to the first knuckle, umbrella, little box hanging from mirror, identity bracelet on right wrist, watch with stretchy band, white business shirt, black trousers, dark hair, fair complexion, square head, bumpy nose, and bits of the number plate. All that was before hypnosis. The other bonus things were after the hypnosis a month or so later, I believe, such as the tint sticker on window, etc.
So, she really hasn't done too bad at all .... quite magnificent really.
PS: This guy sounds Mediterranean to me ...... MOO

Have started following the Facebook page a bit more, well spotted k-mac, sounds like you were spot on with your speculation, seems to be what everyone's in agreeance with too .... I always take the road less travelled, haha. And another thing someone has cleared up about the man putting the card in his pocket, he doesn't drop card as I had thought .... the fellow behind him throws something that lands on ground behind him, cigarette or bit of paper. So, just thought I'd tidy up a few things :)

The inability to recognise someone in a police lineup could be explained by the ‘Verbal Overshadowing Effect’. This phenomenon means when people give a verbal description to a previously seen face (a perceptual stimulus), their subsequent recognition for that face becomes impaired. It occurs because when people give verbal statements they are using the feature processing (eg ‘he had brown hair’) part of their brains whereas holistic processing is used to recognise perceptual stimulus such as a face.

The Night Driver podcast Episode 10 - The Screams, was released on 4 December for The Australian subscribers. I have to say after listening to that episode, won't give too much away for those who haven't listened to it yet, but I'm gonna 100 per cent rule out the top three POI's. It's really sounding like there's a background story to this that hasn't been delved into enough. Hopefully the podcast/cold case investigators can flush out the perpetrator now, in this 19th year of Janine Vaughan's disappearance. A really interesting detail in Episode 10, among others, was that Janine was receiving abusive mail a couple of weeks before her disappearance .... a couple of weeks, so what's that all about? Also with the resemblance of Janine to Lynette on the night, it could have been mistaken identity as has been mentioned before. Maybe Lynette had a coat on since it was raining, and had similar hair, so that's what I'm thinking at this point.

Another interesting detail I found out a while ago is that Janine was living in Piper Street opposite a high school at the time of the stalking/notes, that's pretty interesting, I had been thinking it was Rocket Street.

Episode 10 - The Screams

The Night Driver Podcast Episode 10 "The Screams" is now up on Podbean. And the sound works.

I wonder if they had a time limit on the other episodes, and if that might be the reason they've stopped playing.
