He hasn't been seen since and his body has never been found.

In 2015, a coroner ruled Mr Brogden died as a result of foul play and referred his case to homicide detectives.

Detective Inspector Damien Hansen said: 'The new information that we were able to obtain this year leaves no doubt in my mind that it's a homicide.'

A $250,000 reward remains in place for any information leading to a conviction and police will provide indemnity for anyone who is not the principal offender.

'I am convinced there are other people who are out in the community who have knowledge of this offence,' Det Hansen said.

He said there were a number of persons of interest in the case, but would not detail their relationship to Mr Brogden.

On the day Mr Brogden went missing, he had fought violently with his partner and had been receiving death threats because of his treatment of her.

‘A man will be extradited to Queensland over the cold case murder of Jay Brogden in 2007.

Police arrested a 32-year-old Coffs Harbour man in New South Wales, where he was today charged over other matters.

He is formerly from Airlie Beach, where the murder is alleged to have occurred.

Detectives will apply for his extradition to Queensland.

“This investigation is not finalised, this investigation will be continuing,” Detective Superintendent Damien Hansen said.

“We have a number of other suspects in relation to Jay’s murder and I expect there will be further information.”

A 33-year-old man was extradited to Brisbane from Sydney earlier this month over an unrelated stabbing incident in Airlie Beach in 2009. Police have not revealed how he is linked to the case.’

‘Police in Brisbane have charged 33-year-old Braddon Butler with the murder of Jay Brogden in north Queensland.’

‘Last month, Queensland police extradited Mr Butler from Sydney to Brisbane.

He was charged with murder on Tuesday afternoon and has appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court.

The matter was adjourned until May 7 and Mr Butler was remanded in custody.

Mr Butler's lawyer Tyronne Thomas said his client would fight the charge.’

Text extracted from article posted by Tootsie upthread May 17 "Under Justice David North, the Supreme Court heard Parnell was out on a boat with Mr Brogden and an alleged Airlie Beach drug kingpin in 2007 when Mr Brogden was shot."

Sounds like Mr Brogden's body may have fallen or been pushed overboard after he was shot and that's why his body has never been located.

Braddon Butler sentenced for manslaughter of Whitsunday man Jay Brogden 16 years ago

Braddon Charles Peter Butler was charged with Jay Brogden's murder in 2019 but, several days before his trial was set to begin this week, pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Crown prosecutor Nathan Crane told the court Butler was a drug dealer in the Whitsundays in 2007 and had supplied to Mr Brogden when an issue arose about money.

The court heard Mr Brogden had been an avid angler and Butler and Parnell had "lured him" onto the water under the guise of fishing.

Braddon Butler was sentenced to eight years jail, with immediate parole eligibility.

"The real identifier, the motivation, of why Mr Brogden was on that boat was so Mr Butler could 'scare him straight'," Mr Crane said.

I know both Gavin and Braddon. There is absolutely no way Braddon “didn’t know”. I feel so sorry for Jays family.
