Police said initially said that 'they' returned to the unit complex around 2:30am ... yet now it is an unknown time that this happened?

“They’ve gone on to party on the beach at Bingil Bay before going back to the unit complex to sleep off the night about 2.30am. Sometime after sun-up on Saturday, this incident has unravelled.”

It is understood two fellow rafting guides who lived at the unit went to work and left Ms La Spina sleeping, along with several others. They returned home and made the grisly discovery.

Seems that the co-workers could have left the unit complex quite early/at sunrise for work. Full day rafting tours start at 7:30am from Mission Beach.
So was Jo immediately in danger, upon their departure (according to the unanswered cries for help)? Who was left in the unit with her?? One of the articles, or the presser, said the grey car was there till around 9am, I believe.

How frustrating! We have one lot of info from the Courier Mail on 23rd April, then conflicting statements from the Cairns Post on 26th April.

The friends went to work VS the friends were away camping.
They left for work and left Jo, and others, sleeping VS Jo went back to their place and fell asleep.

I guess the newer statements may be the more accurate ones.

So I wonder when the grey car showed up at the unit complex. Were there others who were allowed to stay at the friends unit while they were away too? Had someone 'stalked' Jo? Or supposedly 'dropped her off' there after the beach party ... even though the grey car was apparently seen by someone at the unit complex at 9am-ish.

That would be why it is so important for the police to determine the movements of that car from dawn onwards on the Saturday morning, no doubt. And who was in the car .. one person, more than one person.

From the timeline above, I'm thinking that the car could be Jo's car - 4.30pm: Drove and parked at friend’s unit near the Bingil Bay Café

IMO - the perp took her car from the unit. Just a guess.

That's possible ... but would she have NSW plates on her car? That is why I am thinking it was a tourist/visitors car. And maybe even someone who was staying at the Jackaroo Hostel.

It's possible - if she was from NSW and working in Mission Beach. Not sure about Qld but in NSW you are supposed to change your rego after 3 months if you have moved here. Many don't bother if they're staying a few months longer.

I think she comes from a long-term Feluga farming family. Which, of course, doesn't mean that she didn't live in NSW, and just came up to work where her mum works for a while. Or had recently relocated back home and hadn't changed her plates over yet. :dunno:

Bingil Bay murder victim Jo La Spina’s mother stays strong via word cloud

Her mum Shelley La Spina has spoken publicly for the first time about the brutal slaying of her 26-year-old daughter in a Bingil Bay townhouse in the state’s far north a week ago.

Murder a ‘targeted’ attack

Anguish at death of their ‘pure’ girl

Asked what she thinks of most when she thinks of her daughter, a heartbroken Mrs La Spina told The Sunday Mail “Sunshine”, before adding “Happiness. Life. Humour. Smile.’’

I hope they got him:

Detectives from the Far Northern District will travel to New South Wales today to seek the extradition of a man arrested by New South Wales police today.

The arrest follows investigations into the suspicious death of a 26-year-old woman at Bingil Bay on April 19.

A 31-year-old South Mission Beach man was arrested by the New South Waled Police at Cronulla at 4pm.

He is expected to appear in the Sutherland Local Court today

...... subject of a targeted and unexpected attack inside the Bingil Bay Rd unit last Saturday morning.

“The victim would have thought she was alone and safe at these premises,” Detective Acting Inspector Kevin Goan said.

“She would have reasonably assumed she was in a place of safety.

“She was targeted at an opportunistic moment at a time when she was most vulnerable.”

He said there was nothing to suggest that she had done anything, either the night before or that morning, to encourage anyone to enter the room.
