The Police would have heaps of evidence - they don't share very often, and so they shouldn't.

If the police have heaps of evidence, then why are they now whipping out the horses and going for a ride in the park? It seems like that should have been done weeks ago. I think the police don't have a body or handbag, and i even doubt they have a (strong) circumstantial case. I think today was a Hail Mary.

Who knows, maybe they're chasing up some new information gleaned from the public today?

The police are not prepared to call the husband a suspect, yet the Herald Sun has found him guilty in trial by media. I find that unusual. I am thinking our jaded society is convinced the husband did it in a way the police might not be. Therefore, a random stranger might have killed her. I sure as hell am not trusting the Herald Sun.

Doubtful. The horses were planned days ago.

So maybe they're checking every couple of days in case her body bobs up to the surface, or other evidence is dumped over there even now?

I understood it was a search of the grasslands not the river.
I think there is zero chance of her being in the river- that is what i have gathered as dead bodies float and she would have been seen by now. That is how i understand that.

Was that definitely today? The article I saw just shows them searching it and doesn't say when? If you have a link that would be great!

I don't feel that way at all, there is nothing unusual in the way they are operating. They're thinking ahead to a trial is all.

They need to show they appealed to the public for help and explored the possibility that she did leave on foot, even if they have evidence to show she did not.

Same here Mrs G - me thinks they are crossing their "t's" and dotting their "I's".

If I lived in that area and had perhaps murdered Karen, I would be pretty nervous seeing a police van there all day, watching them knock on doors, wondering if they gleaned anything that would incriminate me. It might even make me do or say something silly ... especially if I was feeling a bit emotional because a month had gone by already and the heat was not subsiding .... and they might be watching me and see me do or say that silly something.

The police apply pressure in many different ways. Interesting that a suspect has stopped talking to them, and suddenly a police van pops up in the neighbourhood, with police walking around knocking on doors, putting up posters.

They also need to get a rock-solid court case together, if they have a strong suspect ... and perhaps gather more evidence along the way.

"Detectives have set up an information caravan in her home suburb of Avondale Heights, in Melbourne's north-west and mounted police have searched parklands near her home."

Sounds like it was all today. This could just be one final sweep before they arrest the husband; but i think without declaring he is even a suspect, it would be sensational to arrest him tomorrow for murder.

That could mean they have someone else- a stranger- in the frame and might arrest him soon. Currently, i am buying the stranger theory more than the husband, to be perfectly honest- despite the Herald Sun's politics to the contrary.

Brilliant, thanks!!! I agree with the poster above who thinks this could be part of turning up the heat on a certain suspect who has decided to stop speaking.

Borce asking neighbors if they had CCTV, combined with the cameras in his their own home not working is as sus as hell!

Why do you think its suss Mrs G ..?

Because I think he was trying to find out if anyone might have footage of either her not walking out, or a car from the home driving up the street at a time he said he didn't leave the house, or similar.

I think i misunderstood your post. sorry.

They are not prepared to say she is murdered; they refuse to label the husband a suspect; they refuse to call in the homicide squad; it is still a missing person case. They are still putting up posters for a missing person.

Why, then, is the Herald Sun insinuating the husband is guilty of murder? If the husband was guilty of murder, then it makes no sense whatsoever to put up missing persons posters. It's simply wasteful. SURELY, they would not be putting up missing persons posters to look for a dead body, when the police are not even acknowledging a murder has occured. This just makes no sense.

Further, everyone is convinced Melbourne now have their own Gerard Baden Clay. This is cynical, if you ask me. The cops have squat, which is why they're racing horses on nearby parklands.

Missing persons posters serve the same purpose whether a missing person is dead or alive.

ETA Just saw your post, ScottKam ... no worries. We are all figuring things out together.

Were they literally putting up missing persons posters today?

Article last night said that was in the plan for today. Along with the doorknocking and the info van.

Well i'm sticking to my point, then, that the police were taking out Phar Lap for a graze because they have ZILCH and need evidence, of which they are SORELY lacking.

Meanwhile, the Herald Sun has already convicted the husband. Geez! The Herald Sun is fast, and full of ****.
