He may own the Trademark - they both own the business name

Okay, so KR owned the house and shares in the business (with BR acting as Director of the business, but with no shares [odd?]).

Why would this be?

Well, here's a possibility - he may be bankrupt -
https://www.afsa.gov.au/debtors/bankruptcy/bankruptcy-overview/assets
http://asic.gov.au/regulatory-resou...ankruptcy-and-personal-insolvency-agreements/

From the second link, "... you are automatically disqualified from managing corporations and cease to be a director, alternate director or secretary of a company unless you have been given leave by the Court to manage corporations."

I was going to suggest that if my hunch is correct it would mean he had nothing to do with KR's disappearance (because he'd surely have too much to lose), but then I noticed this (from the first link):

"What assets may I keep?

The Bankruptcy Act allows bankrupts to keep certain assets. These include:

 • life insurance policies for you or your spouse, and the proceeds from these policies received after your bankruptcy."

... So if life insurance was paid out, he could probably buy back the house - except where would he live in the meantime? KR wouldn't be declared officially dead until some years had passed, so he wouldn't have access to the funds until then. And, if he is bankrupt, he wouldn't be able to access the funds until his bankruptcy period is over if KR was to be found deceased sooner.

I feel a bit ... dirty (for lack of a better word) posting this guess, but if it is right then I really think it points to BR's innocence.

So they ran the business and owned the house together basically, even though the house was in Karen's name, also since there were two premises Borce may have been more active at the factory outlet, or even involved in running the financial side of things while Karen was more 'front of house'?

The financial part of things sounds normal, also payday loans aren't going to lend you that amount of money, I see no reason why it couldn't have been a bank loan.

BBM ... depends on your credit rating, security (if the house is mortgaged to the hilt you will only have access to limited equity), overall risk for the bank... also depends on the nature of the business (if it's high risk the bank might not lend the money).

Borce is also a manufacturer/supplier of menswear

I think the media is just playing up this old 16years ago debt to honest. .......

So it sounds like my bankruptcy theory is wrong.

Either way, it sounds like they had a bit of a complicated set-up going on.

To me the old business collapsing is done and dusted, those ramifications are over. It was colour for the media coverage. It is the current caveat that speaks to money troubles - they aren't coming for the house per se but they owe enough rent to make this legal step necessary in the landlord's eyes. The businesses are objectively not doing well at present even if we ignore Borce's reports about the disagreement as unproven. Anyone go to Watergardens, is the shop open? I wonder what Borce does for a living. Was Karen shouldering the burden for the whole family's income?

Trying to get to Watergardens on the weekend.....will update.

New article on Karen from "Who".
http://www.who.com.au/article/news/missing-melbourne-mum-she-wouldn-t-leave-us
“Her family is most important to her, especially the love and devotion she has for her daughter Sarah,” says Karen’s cousin Lisa, a Sydney HR director. “Sarah and her mum are extremely close, they spoke many times per day. They are best friends.”

These "possible" debts are well over a decade old, as reported by the Australian. Over this time they could possibly have been repaid 'if' they owed this money to anyone.

I find it interesting that both the House and Company shares are in Karen's name, nothing can be done with either until she is pronounced (hopefully not).

He would have no problem living in the house as long as the mortgage etc are kept up to date.

I love this magazine's true life articles - they're investigated and written very well.

That's a gorgeous photo of the three of them up the top ... they all look genuinely happy.

Oh ... she's from New Zealand originally? Strange that this story hasn't even made it here (yet) then ... usually whenever there's any sort of Kiwi connection the papers pick it up. I haven't heard anything on any of the TV news channels either, and the two largest ones both have Australia-based reporters updating everyone on the big stories across the ditch.

Yes it is a beautiful family picture....

But again Im hating the misrepresentation of this supposed in debt issue.

In that link the reporter says: The couple are partners in a formal wear business Bella Bleu, which is in apparent finacial trouble with reported debts as high as $600,000

Now we know that is simply not true...... that debt was attributed to a failed business 16 years ago and as others have pointed out their portion of that debt .....for that failed business ....was well less than that...

I wish reporters would either get their facts right or simply leave their speculation well and truly out of their articles grŕrr

I think the cousin in the WHO article is in that family photo, good chance they are behind the webpage. Good on them for stepping forward to speak for Karen.

I'm not so sure that the 2nd facebook page that has been set up is by Family either. Someone asked the question 'when was she last seen by someone other than the husband, and the response from the page was "That's the million dollar question". Surely Family would know who and when this was. As far as we know it was Sarah the night before as per the radio interview but she may have seen her Mum in the morning. Also it was reported that Borce stopped cooperating with Police after the stepsons allegations came out and now he won't even use the media to put fresh appeals out. Why? My opinion is that there is truth in what the stepson says and he won't speak to the media because he doesn't want to answer any awkward questions..... I think she is in hiding or has suicided.

For those who might remember Kerry Whelan a Sydney wealthy wife who was abducted by an acquaintance, Bruce Burrell. (Who died today aged 62). He was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.

Anyway, what I'm getting at is could someone think this family was wealthy and as someone said on WS she liked to live like she had money. It happened to Kerry so maybe it's a possibility.

I don't think her body was ever found but he was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.

I have been thinking about the police using the word "courage" in regard to seeking information on this case and wondering if they are looking at a bigger picture than just Karen's immediate family.

Former Detective Charlie Bezzina's recent comment that their is a "slim" chance Karen is being held captive and Borce's claim that Police have asked him not to comment make me wonder if there is any possibility of gang or underworld involvement.

Probably googling their surname made me think along these lines because of another high profile case.
