How much can all this end up costing BR, assuming it goes all the way through the court system?

Is there any chance the lawyer could be doing it pro bono because of it being a high profile case in the media?

Representation for a murder trial can easily cost $100,000, and more, depending on how complicated and/or lengthy the whole process is.

Put down $10,000 for a retainer, pay more as and when the payment agreement they sign says.

In Gable Tostee's murder trial, they said his top criminal lawyer would charge about $6,000 a day for court appearances alone.

Then they pay for every other little thing. Letters produced and signed, paralegal research, consultations, phone calls. Every minute of a lawyer's time costs money.

Sometimes a lawyer will do it for a fixed fee, but that is not the norm.

We'll be paying for it. Us fool taxpayers have deep pockets.

I guess it depends if he is eligible for legal aid, I guess. Though it sure doesn't sound as though he has any assets in his name to sell, does it?

According to Tossers GF his lawyer (the 4th or 5th one that represented him at trial) did it for free. I don't have proof of this so take it as rumor.

I just hope BR doesn't borrow what he needs from the loan sharks.

Okay. I am just going by what I read here - the article is mostly about Adrian Bayley, but it mentions the fee charged by Tosser's star barrister for court appearances.

At about the time he had been enlisted by Mr Tostee, Mr Holt, who legal sources estimated would command a fee of around $6000 per day ......

For SR sake I'm hoping it wasn't BR she will be left with no-one and if the uncle invoked too she will have no family.

BR already picked his legal firm, he wouldn't qualify for legal aid and if he did you would not get top lawyer like mr Stary, they assign you some b grade lawyer if you lucky.

I wonder if lawyers ask their clients questions like 'did you really kill her', out of curiosity.

Lawyers defend hardcore criminals all the time knowing they are rotten to the core

I still find SR just utterly bizarre. I just can't get my head around no pleas on social media (I know for fact she posted ONCE) no posters in shop, happy posing pics on FB. This as well as the media claiming she was working with a missing persons group (of which not post, poster, campaign etc was ever done)

If it was accident or you knew something, surely the decent human part of you would be to come clean instead of carrying on like your life is normal (and that goes for working in the shop each day).

Macedonians like many cultures all stick together when times are tough and my feelings about AR is that he was never ever truly going to be part of the real inner circle and he hates that (didn't have his Dads surname either, and even after finding your Dad at 15 you would want some sort of validation)

Samuel Johnson made a plea once. His sister on her charity page, posted once. The web sleuths community have posted more about this case than any other people out there. Why?

Also the shop is still open however SR hasn't been there all week.

They do Legal Aid work. Initially he was assigned another lawyer from that firm. I can't remember her name.

Ok, so it looks like "Karen's side" of the family have invited those that loved, knew or were touched by her story to pay their respect and have welcomed all to her funeral.
This has come from Karen's brothers partner.
Certainly not what media reports have said about her family wanting to keep this a private service.

How do you get legal aid for a defense lawyer, if you have not been charged with anything?

Just in case? Once Karen's body was located and she was officially declared deceased, BR probably had to meet with his lawyer for legal advice on where to from here.

That is nice of her family to do that & hope she has a lovely celebration of her life service, and no dramas at the funeral from the peanut gallery, (AR).

I wonder if they are trying to put pressure on BR. Maybe the extra scrunity of the day will cause him to slip up in some way. Also wonder how much contact 'karens side' has with SR.

I wonder if anyone will reveal anything extra to police after the funeral. Cant imagine a confession though will come now just for the sake of doing the right thing. Maybe though someone else has been holding back waiting for the funeral to be over for SR's sake.

Interesting isn't it. Seems like Karen's family aren't going to be bullied by the Ristevski family.
