Family of backpacker found dead after 23-year mystery break their silence - and dismiss key theory about how she died

Ms Carmichael's parents, who live in Geelong, have always believed their daughter may have been murdered.

They were were told of the find by officers from the Unsolved Homicide Team.

Her mother, Margaret Carmichael, said their daughter would never have committed suicide.
I feel like the police back then wanted to brush off the case, not look into it, call it a suicide and move on, as its been done numerous times before. I dont know how they came to this conclusion as their was no evidence, she was missing but no body/remains had been found. If the remains are only being found after 23 years, they were presumed to be well hidden?? Mabye elements and other factors disguised them more over the years, but mabye they were just well hidden to begin with.

I have never had the feeling that this was a suicide.

I don't know the area, especially back in the day, but the only thing I can think of that doesn't involve malicious actions by another would be if she wanted to get a last view of a place, and slipped and fell. I don't know if that scenario even makes any sense in regard to how far away she was found from where she was leaving and if she could make it there and back, and make her departure time.
