Pakenham isn't really an area where I'd expect strict tribal law to be in place, though you never know.. It would just seem odd to me, if that was the case.

Wth is going onnnn, I want to know! lol. Msm seems to be clamped on the issue, I see no new news at ALL for either crime in the past few days. You'd think this would be all over everything by now. It's just weird.

So I'm thinking, information control by police.. maybe they do think it's a serial??? Or connected, at least.

It is still a possibility, though...

But... Would LE state that is the reason the public is not being informed?

The last sentence above in your post sounds like LE would (try to) notify the public if this was the case here...
:dunno:

Think it means that they would tell the media that was why they were not releasing the name ... not necessarily the public. In Oz we don't have the 'right to know' everything ... bit frustrating sometimes, but it may be deemed inconsequential to anyone else but the loved ones.

Just not sure why they would control the release of the person's name though. I can see them withholding all kinds of info - but I don't think I've ever noticed them withhold a person's name before (once the family has been notified, of course).

I believe cultural law applies throughout Australia - it is dependent on the wishes of the family, not so much where a person lives.

Not saying that is the case here - just the only reason that I personally can think of currently for withholding a murdered/deceased person's name.

Oh for sure, it's a possibility - just, usually, they'll identify the victim with something - 'aboriginal woman', or just a small amount of info on the crime, so to me it's weird, especially considering that another woman in the area was recently murdered at home, too.

There's been SO many homicides in Aus this past year.. :(

It is all very quiet. Nothing in the Herald Sun. I live in the south east and have been checking the Dandenong Journal as well but not a word.

Thanks for checking Marg from Oz! This is all so strange, such silence on Kylie's case and the murdered 20-year old. Why on earth are police keeping a lid on everything?! You would think that if they have nothing, they'd be asking for help. So are we to presume they are onto something??

I imagine that the community is unsettled... And that they are notifying LE and/or MSM to provide them with some information to help them feel more secure...:waitasec:

Well, here's the latest 'official' news in which LE state that they believe the two deaths are not connected.

Still suspiciously little info on the second death, I see.......

http://pakenham.starcommunity.com.au/gazette/2013-10-30/second-death/

Is it coincidental that, when speaking of the 20-year old's death, this statement ....

“Police don’t have any determination as to the cause of death,” the spokesperson said.
“The Homicide Squad is continuing their investigations.”

... is immediately followed by information about family violence and the efforts of the community to bring an end to it?

I recognize that LE has reported that there is no connection between the deaths of Kylie and the mysterious 20 year old...

But... I am still quite curious...

Outside the possibility that she may be an Aboriginal Native...

Can anyone think of another reason why the 20 year old's name would not be released to MSM?

I am stymied.....

I can only think that her family may have requested for her name not to be released. And if the public doesn't need to know, then police might withhold it out of respect for family wishes. But I can't think why, because anyone who knew her is going to find out she was murdered. If it were my family member, I wouldn't want their name released unless it was important for catching the killer.

I really believe that the police don't need the publics help or they would have made an appeal through media.

I also have a vague feeling that is not that uncommon for a murder to be reported without the name of the deceased being given to MSM. Some murders make the news once and that's it. Some never make the news. I'm not going to extensively trawl the internet to find out, but here are two articles where the name of the victim is not reported even though someone was charged.

I think her name is mentioned in the comments here ... and her FB page is now gone.

Another person says that people keep telling police about someone they suspect, and that she is scared herself.

Good find enzeder!

If you click on the little arrow to the right of her FB address in Google, it comes up 'cached'. Click on that and it gives you the front page of what was her FB page. Can see her that way - if that's the victim??
