Australia Australia - Kylie Blackwood, 42, Pakenham, Vic, 1 Aug 2013

 • #361
“We really need anyone who saw someone matching the description we’ve released, in the area between McCaffrey Rise or Main St, between 12.30 and 2.30, to come forward,” Det Sen-Sgt Bailey said.

“Maybe they saw this person with another person, or in a certain car in and around Main St.

“Any information — no matter how small they think it is — could be vital for our investigation,” he said.

“We are now viewing footage that investigators retrieved in the Pakenham area soon after the murder, to assess its relevance given the information regarding the suspect’s movements in Main St,” he said.

Ruse or no ruse, truth or not, I'm really glad that there's finally some action on this case!! I've felt so terrible for Kylie that the whole thing just seemed to be forgotten.

Come on Vic police!!!:loveyou:

So that's the guy they were looking for in the beginning - the one the tradesman said he saw scurrying away.

I wonder when the credit card realisation happened. It had to have been at least a few weeks after Kylie's murder, as an article said that after a few weeks the CCTV vision was gone.

But ... perhaps there is other CCTV on that street that wasn't erased or recorded over.

bbm. You were spot on, SouthAussie :seeya:

Bank camera footage from the day has not been able to be retrieved, but hours of crucial evidence has been gleaned from cameras in the area.

From same article.
“You have to cross the Princes Highway to travel from McCaffrey Rise to Main St, where the bank card was used,” Detective Senior Sergeant Bailey said.
“That would indicate it might be a local person responsible - someone who knows Main St, has been there before, or has otherwise gone out of their way to get there,” he said.

I was looking on Google maps and saw that Harcourts on Main Street is a 1-4 min walk to get to the ATMs on Main Street.

Brazen perp! :scared: Murders Kylie in broad daylight in the middle of the day, goes to Main Street very near where Kylie's husband and associates work to try to get money with Kylie's credit card. Hung around somewhere in that vicinity for a couple of hours for some unknown reason.

I agree with you 100%. It just seemed to go so cold even though I'm sure VicPolice would have been working on it the whole time. Still can't understand why information about the ATM and subsequent CCTV has taken so long. Remember how quick they were analysing the CCTV footage of Jill Meagher. I've got a feeling we might get some answers soon <modsnip>

Folks please be careful with your "suspicions" & who you are alluding to.

Certain folks involved in this case are classed as victims on WS

It feels to me as though there's about to be something massive happening... Maybe something that will blow us away??

Thanks for that info. But even if the card was blocked and not retained surely that would have shown up as suspicious activity when they were looking at her account at the police departments request. They were dealing with a murder investigation so surely the bank would have been requested to have a really thorough look into her account not just a quick glance. It just doesn't ring true that the bank could have made such a massive mistake but then months later go "oh actually, someone made 3 attempted withdrawals in Main St Packenham". I just don't buy it.

Also, isn't Main St, Pakenham the street where Peter Blackwood's office is?

BBM...

Wow!.... What a coincidence....

I agree... There must be CCTV footage from the businesses surrounding the bank...

I bet there is someone(s) squirming about now as this burst of media exposure is hitting the spotlight!

I was thinking the exact same thing, we hear nothing for months and then two big releases within 24 hours. Kylie is also on the front page of the Herald Sun. I'm sure there would be sombody/somebodies sweating about now. Hoping for justice for Kylie and her family.

One thing that I can’t get my head around in this case is the blood. The perp must have had significant blood on him after such a brutal murder … not to mention that he may have been cut from blade slippage (sorry … poor Kylie :( ).

Didn’t he drip some blood as he made his getaway? Though I guess he had time to wash his hands and face.

Didn’t he leave some prints … either bloody ones, or when he entered through the garage door? Though I guess he could have worn gloves .. we don’t see his hands in the suspect images.

But didn’t he have blood all over his stripey jumper? How did he clean up quick enough to be seen on Main Street at 12:30? If he was seen casing the house, then returning, then hurriedly leaving about 20mins later, then on Main Street … all in the same clothes (presumably).

What was in the brown paper bag he was clutching when he left the house? And where do you get a brown paper bag from these days … other than little boutiques (like where Kylie worked perhaps)?

Thanks for letting us know that Kylie is on the front page. That is great! And will be stirring up a lot of rekindled interest in the area. I soooooo hope they are close to an arrest(s).

Herald Sun is also posting the articles on their FB page and getting people talking a bit. (Need to log on to FB to see comments.)

I'm in Pakenham quite a bit, I live a few suburbs down but do shopping there when I can't be bothered facing the big shopping centre near my house. The ANZ atms are actually only a couple of shops down from Harcourts on main st. I'm wondering if maybe the perp saw Kylie using the ATMs after visiting her husband at his office or something and maybe followed her home.

I was just thinking if the ATM was really used could it possibly have been used as an attempt to establish an alibi for somebody? ie. if the investigators when tracing Kylie's steps that day were led to believe that Kylie successfully withdrew cash at 12.30 in Packenham then that would have meant that her attack wasn't until later in the day potential creating an alibi for the attacker. If the cash withdrawal had've been successful this would have possibly led the investigators to believe that she was still alive at 12.30. I hope this makes sense. The person attempting withdrawal must have thought they knew the pin number and either their recollection was wrong or they were so stressed they mucked it up. Nobody would be stupid enough to think they had a chance of guessing a pin. Robbery still doesn't sit right, remember early on the police said their were items of value in the house that weren't taken.

The interview the detective at the end of that blog is interesting. I heard it on the radio earlier this morning. Police say that the purchase Kylie made that day hadn't shown up when they went back to the bank a week after her murder. Police discovered some time later and returned to the bank 8-9 weeks after her murder, by which time the transaction had shown up. The bank took another look and found the three attempted ATM transactions.
