Any news on court proceedings in this case?

For those who are wondering about a trial date... after over a fortnight from when I was told we would have a date, I have been informed today that there won’t be a date until at least the 12th February 2021

New to this thread and have just read about Leisl's life and disappearance. She seemed like a strong and vivacious woman, hopeing for justice for Liesl and her family. The wheels seem to be turning very slowly though, hope it's for good reason.

So many years later and still waiting for an answer about Leisl.
Thoughts and prayers are still with her family and friends.

The trial date is set for 24th January, 2022, almost 10 years since she disappeared

Unreal that this has taken so very long! But very glad to hear that the trial will now be proceeding (in 9 months time).
He was arrested 2½ years ago. It sure has taken a long time to get him to trial.

On this Boxing Day night 2021 I have again come back to Leisl’s page, reading again through her entire thread, hoping for a progression. There seems to be impetus, people charged etc, but still seems stalled. Wishing for expedition this new year to bring truth and answers to all xx

Public records show that James Scott Church went before the court for an AVO in 2021. It appears to be a police application on behalf of a partner/ex-partner......

According to the online registry, there are 2 weeks set aside for JCs trial in the Sydney Supreme Court, beginning 24 January. Smack bang in the middle, are two mentions relating to an AVO- one in Inverell, one in Moree. Not a great look to be up against an AVO in the middle of your murder trial.

not at all, but not surprising given what we know about him!

‘Grave revelations’ in missing woman case
The trial of a man accused of murdering his former girlfriend who vanished from the NSW Central Coast has been delayed again after a court was told of “grave revelations” relevant to the case.
Really? How long can this drag on?

I’ve just read the entire thread and this is so crazy!
We have a missing pregnant, or was pregnant girl. Two boyfriends, one is shot but survives, the other is found dead in a river. We don’t know who shot the accused, we don’t know who killed the other boyfriend, we don’t know where Liesl is. We now have a delayed trial start with new info regarding someone helping the accused dispose of LS. I can’t imagine how hard this has been for her sister and other family and friends. I certainly hope they have all their ducks in a row and justice is served.

Many of the witnesses are not being subpoenaed now... in particular witnesses from many years ago that were crucial in putting forward a pattern of violent behaviour of the accused. Mostly DV cases. But alas, witness list for the prosecution was required to be drastically reduced. One would think that it would be important to put forth a history of domestic violence and AVOs relating to the accused, dating back to around 1992. ‍♂️

Is Leisl Smith still alive? Defence barrister offers alternative scenarios to murder

Is Leisl Smith still alive? Supreme Court hears 'alternative scenarios' to murder

This week in the New South Wales Supreme Court, the Crown alleged Mr Church killed and buried Ms Smith in the Upper Hunter Valley so he could pursue another woman.

But in his opening address, defence barrister Manny Conditsis told the judge-only trial there were other possible explanations for Ms Smith's disappearance.

"There are alternative scenarios that are inconsistent with his guilt and consistent with his innocence," he said.
