Heartbreaking case of the woman no one has missed

An elderly woman who was tragically abandoned outside a southeast Queensland hospital has still not been identified nearly one month on from the startling incident that's left a small Sunshine Coast community bamboozled.

Despite the best efforts of police and media, the unnamed elderly woman who was left on a bench seat outside the Nambour Hospital on September 6, has gone unrecognised for over three weeks.

A rustic gold dress ring may solve the mystery surrounding the identity of a frail elderly woman who was left outside a regional Queensland hospital more than two weeks ago.

The woman, believed to be aged in her 80s, was picked up from the side of the road in Mooloolah on the Sunshine Coast and taken to Nambour General Hospital on September 6 where she was left outside the entrance.

It’s been a long time now and her picture has been quite widely publicised. I wonder what has happened in her life. It sounds like she might have wandered from home but the big question is where is home?

I just hope when they finally find "home" they don't find a double tragedy and the person, possibly elderly who used to look after her had passed away. Seems she was walking for a reason and I think it was to get help.

Very strange that no one has recognised her.

I used to live near Mooloolah. It's very small. That area, and all the surrounding areas, are places where you recognise your neighbours.

Who took her from Mooloolah to Nambour? It's about a half hour drive

For nearly a month, a mystery elderly woman has lived in a Sunshine Coast hospital bed.
No name. No family. And no clues to her past.
Is this how her life plays out?
There's now nothing more police can do.
"We're not treating this as a criminal investigation," Acting Inspector Matt Robertson told media last week.
"We're just trying to reunite her with her family."
But no-one has answered that call - not a relative, not a friend, nor a neighbour.
At Mooloolah Valley - her last known location - a subtle poster hangs on the community notice board.

Almost a month has passed and the identity of this abandoned woman is still a mystery

This is what I think is most likely, because if she has dementia to the point where she can't say her name or where she's from and she swallowed her ring due to her diminished faculties, then it's unlikely she was living without help

That said the town where she was found is very small and it seems like any such carer would also be known and his or her absence would have been noticed

She might not be from Mooloolah. She could have got off a train there.

I wonder if she's run away from a nursing home or some other care situation a distance away. They've maybe ticked her on an approved visit somewhere and haven't really noticed that she's missing, especially as they're still getting her government payments.

We now know that she can speak, speaks to staff but won't speak to the Police.
And it seems she "doesn't want visitors"
My thought that she might have been foreign seems incorrect as it's not been said that she has an accent.

What if she does know her name and where she lives, or lived but like JLZ said, has run away from a care situation, or someone who has been caring for her at home.
But where is home ? And why does no one seem to know her.
And the ring thing is strange, if true.
If true did she take it off as it could identify her or was it her way of keeping it safe.

There has to be someone out there who has ever met her. Even if her family line had run out. You don't live a life without ever coming in contact with another human being.

Police can confirm public assistance is no longer required in identifying an elderly woman being treated at Sunshine Coast University Hospital since September 6.

The woman recently began speaking with police and has clearly indicated she is aware of her identity and does not wish to disclose this information for personal reasons.

For this reason, police are requesting the public and the media respect the woman’s privacy as per her request.

Final update: Unidentified elderly woman at Nambour

Identity of elderly woman stays a mystery

The hunt to find out the identity of a frail, elderly woman found by the side of the road on Queensland's Sunshine Coast has ended.
Her identity remained a mystery for weeks, with police initially unable to ask the woman who she was because she was suffering a "challenging health situation".
Police said on Sunday the woman recently began talking and declined to disclose her identity for personal reasons.

Some news reports are saying she isn't telling medical staff or the Police her name and address and only that she does know who she is and where she lives.
Still strange that no one has come forward who recognises her ?

Wow. Well that is definitely her right. If she didn't want to provide her name and address.

It sounds as though she doesn't want to go back there, wherever it is.
And wherever it is hasn't come forward and said that she is known.

I hope she gets whatever help she needs, and lands in a safe and secure place where she can feel comfortable.

So how is she intending to support herself? If she knows what she’s doing what is her plan here?
