Luka’s parents got engaged, some happiness despite still not finding the “person” responsible for harming little Luka.

Life-changing update for the parents of baby Luka, who was scalded with hot coffee by mystery man in a Brisbane park

EXCLUSIVE

The parents of the baby who was badly burnt by a random attacker who threw hot coffee on him are now engaged, providing some happiness to the family as the culprit remains on the run.

A GoFundMe appeal raised more than $230,000 to help fund Luka's treatment and recovery.

The couple have since bought a new home and moved to a new area for a fresh start in the wake of the shocking incident.

Now Luka's parents have revealed their wedding plans, amid frustration that the hunt for his attacker has apparently stalled.

But almost six months on, Luka's mother has revealed the investigation has seemingly ground to a halt.

'I haven't posted about Luka's case for justice in a while,' she posted on social media last week.

'I have tried to remain hopeful while also not letting this consume my thoughts. Well, today it has.

'I'm feeling extremely defeated this morning. No progression on our case and at a standstill from what we have been told.

A Queensland police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia on Tuesday that investigations were still 'ongoing,.'

'No updates available at this time,' they added

How can they ever feel truly safe until the person responsible is apprehended and put before the justice system?

On the other hand I’m glad the parents are planning to get married and have purchased a new home.

How amazing are Australians to support them with that Go Fund me appeal: That kind of support is life-changing and means that they can get the counselling and medical care that they need to help them cope as best they can.

They can feel safe in the sense that the person is no longer in Australia and has no visa to return.

They are unlikely to have any kind of justice unless an extradition proceeding is agreed. I posted on some intricacies and difficulties associated with extradition applications upthread in November 2024.

I'm a bit behind on this case/thread. Has the attacker been identified and his location known?

He's faaaaaar away, never to be caught.

As I wrote earlier in this thread,
the only chance to nab him was when he still stayed in Australia.

But,
Guess what?
He caught a plane to his homeland.

Now,
it is "mustard after dinner".

What a pity!

Too bad :(

Det Insp Paul Dalton from the South Brisbane district Child Protection Investigation Unit, said the man was now believed to be overseas after flying out of Sydney airport on 31 August.

Dalton said the man was identified by Queensland police on 1 September – just 12 hours later.

“This is probably one of the most complex and sometimes frustrating investigations that I’ve had to be involved in and lead,” he said.

Queensland Police said that while the suspect's name has been reported in Chinese media, Australian police would not release it due to the risk of compromising the investigation.

Police 'working hard' in hunt for man accused of throwing hot coffee on baby

Police have given an update on the manhunt for a man accused of throwing hot coffee at a baby in Brisbane last year.

Queensland Police Service Acting Commissioner Shane Chelepy told 4BC's Peter Fegan that the investigation was "absolutely" ongoing.

Luka’s mother told the Courier Mail in Novemberthat her little boy had become “a bit wary of people” since the incident.

“In those first few weeks, we had no idea what his future was going to look like, especially because the burns were so significant,” she said.

“He’s healed really well and baby skin is amazing and the synthetic skin graft that they did worked really well.”

His father said the prominent burns seen on Luka’s body after the incident had healed “better than we ever thought”.

“Hopefully by the time he becomes a teenager you won’t even be able to see the scars anymore,” he said.

"There are a range of investigative strategies under way, and we're going to keep these strategies at play," he said.
Asked if there was still an operation under way, Chelepy said "absolutely".
Chelepy avoided answering whether detectives were currently, or had recently been, in China.
"I don't want to compromise their investigative strategy," he said.
The name of the suspect, who fled the country, has since been revealed in a Chinese media outlet.
Queensland police have refrained from releasing further details on the suspect's identity as the international manhunt continues.''

Chinese law forbids nationals from facing foreign justice

Bizarre. But are they going to do anything about him?
Not likely, given the authorities encourage ultra nationalism within the country. Hatred towards Japanese, hatred towards the West. East rises, West descends. Some especially younger citizens are brainwashed. MOO but try google Chinese nationalism.

On the other hand, Australia does not extradite political "criminals" to China either.

Though the article does not mention that Australia and China have a Mutual Assistance Treaty. It was put in place to assist both countries in the prosecution of serious crimes.

The Treaty between Australia and the People’s Republic of China on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters (Canberra, 3 April 2006) (the Mutual Assistance Treaty with China) creates a formal process enabling Australia and China to assist each other in the investigation and prosecution of serious crimes including terrorism, fraud, money laundering and people trafficking.

The key obligation of the Mutual Assistance Treaty with China is for both Parties to grant each other the widest measure of mutual assistance in connection with investigations, prosecutions and proceedings related to criminal matters.

"A former criminal investigator
has warned the only way a Chinese man accused of throwing hot coffee on a baby will ever be arrested is
if he willingly returns to Australia.

'China's not going to send him back here for pouring coffee on someone'.

'I doubt even if we had a good relationship with China
that that's an offence that would require someone to be extradited'.

Professor Kennedy could not see the Australian Federal Police providing any useful help.

'It's a state-based crime',
he said.
'The federal police have no jurisdiction in this matter other than if they're going to extradite the bloke'.

Professor Kennedy also said
despite CCTV allegedly capturing the attack and the man fleeing the scene
there was no guarantee he would be convicted in an Australian court.

'We're assuming that CCTV can identify someone and it can't'.

'CCTV is all very well and good
but then you've got to prove that the person on the CCTV is the person that you're accusing'."

Could China or the formal criminal investigator maybe consider that the Chinese man did not pour coffee on any old 'someone' but on a tiny defenseless baby? Aren't there often harsher laws for violent crimes committed on children under the age of... (exact age probably varies by country)?

This was a horrible crime! What an awful way to treat a baby!
