Excellent sleuthing @1965school - Any idea where that 40,000ha property west of Byron is located? All I could find was his "beach shack" in Childe St Byron.

Yes I remember Cahills quite well having worked around Martin Place for 4 years in the mid 60's. I also offer Repins Coffee and Tea Shops. They had multiple cafes centered around George, Pitt and Market Streets.

There is a great site which features many of the cafes and restaurants of early Sydney including the 50-60s era. It's full of information but not easy to navigate.

Restaurants and Cafes | The Dictionary of Sydney

I thought RB was being creative when he said that the cafe was at the corner of Pitt and Market. I'm not so sure that was where he sipped his lattes. A more likely place was the Hermitage Cafe owned by Henri Renaut a Frenchman.

Sydney’s wining and dining evolution - Nicole Cama

Henri was a founding member of the Wine & Food Society of NSW. And so was John Keith WALKER. He had a wine bar restaurant at 87 Market Street (Corner Market and Castlereagh Streets. I reckon there's a good chance DW's father RG Walker was related or known to John Keith Walker.

His Biography is at Biography - John Keith (JK 'Johnnie') Walker - Australian Dictionary of Biography

IMO
This is so interesting. I really enjoyed reading the JKW biography.

Evening all, I think I’ve found another Le Soir article, dated 15 Feb 1968, p4

This news article is about FD, born in Tournai, with the exact same dob as Willy Wonka’s brother, 7 June 1942. According to my rough translation he was convicted to 12 months in prison for having committed eleven frauds against a series of victims and for having also committed at least six forged documents.

Do we know anything more about his brother, as if this is him it looks like he is in the same line of work? Do we know where WW was when FD was in prison from Feb 68-69?

And add that to the FD arrival card and therefore passport entering Australia in Spring 1971...hmm

Well I've spent the day revisiting testimony D4 JO. It's been...long.

'Somebody' at least knew when Mama C died - in 1990, that's the date listed on the Coppennolle coins collection sale. And on the sale - by grandchild of MamaC - anyone find offspring of FW or DW that would fit the bill? I can find no other grandchildren other than RB's.

So interesting the denial of the coin collection having a name.
Mama C--Let's all call her that!!:p:D

RB has owned many large pieces of land. Tamborine? Tasmania? Woodburn? Wardell? Nymboida? Ddh would have inherited a fortune from the Walker family owned properties. Her dad passed in 1987 and mum passed in 1988. I found it interesting that Johnny Walker at 87 Market Street Sydney had a history of the "smelter" industry.

Regarding RB nephew KR founder of Trip-a-deal. Add a few more multi million dollar mansions in Byron Bay.
Meanwhile has anyone read the recent reviews of trip-a-deal.
Traumatized customers not getting holiday refunds :( sound like it runs in the family.

Was it 1968 that WW was claiming to be recuperating in Switzerland? Maybe that was a euphemism for prison?! I am still very drawn to the idea that WW is actually FD.

To my understanding KR isn’t the founder of the travel company.

edit: Joined after the company was established

And the parties were awarded 30000 Francs...
This one was found a few days back I think.

Aka WW was setting up his "new found business" in Oct 1968, prior to his departure to Aust.

According to the Coppenolle Gen Tree FW is deseased so it will be interesting to find his date of death.

Also the birthdate of FW is one that WW has used on one of his aliases.

It's like a merry-go-round that no one can get a grip of with family!

Someone more organised than me will have this on their timeline, but I thought 1968 was the year that WW claimed to have first met MB in Switzerland?

On that thorough Coppenolle Gen Tree it is shown as FW deceased

At inquest I seem to remember RB saying one of the brothers, I thought he was referring to FW, died before the father AW 'about thirty years ago', so around the 90's. He's emailed the other brother with no response.

From an article about DdH's nephew, "KR grew up on Sydney's North Shore and attended a private school. He arrived in Byron at 17 when his parents (DdH's sister) went bankrupt.

"Dad was a builder and mum a music teacher," he says. "We didn't know what to do when they went broke so we ended up running a cafe."

Mum a music "teacher".
So also as a teacher, a great tool for new immigrants wanting to learn english as well perhaps?

Makes sense to me now that Willy Wonka stays at a house in whale beach on his return with the W family in the Chusan.....
