To be fair, he didn't claim to have come up with that expression himself. He was very vague about where it was from though... He narrowed it down to one of two countries.
While in reality he stole if from a book LOL.

But the other stuff in the letter is just plain copying other people's work.
He isnt going to come out with the fact he stole the words from an author, knowing full well Monique was probs watching the inquest.
Not to mention his wife and kids who had to sit through all his excrement!

Great discoveries @car54 ! It fits with RB’s Walter Mitty type persona that he should identify himself as characters in novels and employ quotes to express himself. One thing we can say is that he is well read and it would be interesting to see if any alter egos, aliases and “stories” can be found elsewhere in literature.
In the letter he quoted Irwin Shaw twice, from two different books. As you posted this, i read the short versions of all Shaw’s books, one stood out to me as being possibly a source of some of his stories.

Nightwork - Irwin shaw

Pilot Douglas Grimes’s best days are long behind him. Grounded due to a medical condition, Douglas has resigned himself to menial work as a desk clerk at a seedy hotel. But his fortune flips when he discovers a hotel guest dead from a heart attack and, next to him, a tube jammed with hundred-dollar bills. Douglas grabs the money and, with it, the chance to remake his life. In Europe, he meets Miles Fabian, an elegant and erudite con man with a flair for extravagance. Fabian recruits him for his latest ploy: robbing members of the idle rich. But what will happen when his bad behavior catches up with him?

The book also mentions the main character going to Switzerland, having a stutter,

Yes!! I feel this in my bones the guy is a chameleon and doesn’t have a real personality of his own. He sees himself as a talented mr Ripley type.

He didn’t claim to have come up with any of it to be fair.
And I’d hazard a guess that there aren’t many lines in the grubby letter that wouldn’t be plagiarised, it seems like the coot doesn’t have an original thought.

Strangely though for some reason, he specifically implies the “song in a man’s testicles” line is Australian:
“(it is Australian and so explicit of our wild nature but never mind : Monique.. you're.
Song in a man's testicles!“
So strange.
Yes it is a strange notion that he specifically implies it is Australian when he would know it was “the girls of America are a song in a mans testicles”..

And these discoveries that he plagerises stories of others by @car54 and @Carovb5 bring me back to another path that I was researching ages ago.

It was the history of a French swindler by the name of Desire Charles Octave David, whos name was found by another sleuth. ( Not Maria C 1st husband because there is a 10yr birthdate difference)

Here is a summary of what I found back then.

Desire Charles Octave David ~
Wounded war hero
Placed advertisements to find woman
Fraudster
Womaniser
Professional Dancer / gigolo
Flitting all over Europe - especially Amsterdam France & Germany
Accomplices - sister and Mistress - who helped choose victims for him
Passing himself off as a member of a rich noble family
Claimed disabled to work – living off the riches of the women

Born in November 1895, son of a school teacher, twice wounded during the war, charged in 1926 with espionage and fraud for the benefit of Germany. Claimed in the Reich while he had taken refuge in Dusseldorf, he was extradited and tried on the charge of fraud. His accomplice was his sister and Mistress.

1934 – DCOD goes to jailed – He changes his name after the scandalous Trial and after the trial he has no footprint...name changed....? He dies in 1972 under DD

One newspaper clipping claimed he had 7 wives and his long term Mistress - Mathilde Tadieu

"1915, during a convalescence in Pont-Saint-Eaprit, he obtained the hand of Mademoiselle Fournier, daughter of a wealthy merchant from Varenne-Saint-Hriaire. The parents had not without resistance, consented to this marriage, But Mademoiselle Fournier loved the brilliant Officer. It seems that she was the only one to love, while the brilliant lieutenant's career was willing to disperse.
It was much worse when, seriously wounded at Malmaison, placed on standby, then reinstated Désiré-Octave David was returned to civilian life. Until then he had contented himself with cashing in on his father-in-law's coffers. He will now embark on a series of extravagant undertakings by presenting himself as the partner of his father-in-law, by manufacturing fake coins to make people believe in this association, by falsely signing a bill of francs in his father-in-law's name….by claiming for millions that he does not have from a famous brand of chocolate, which will earn him 125,000 francs....
So much so that his wife ends up divorcing and his father-in-law by filing a complaint. From which David was by no means dismounted. He only set his sights on other victims."

REMIND YOU OF ANYONE????!!!!

Married again 1930:
She met David in Rennes. He left the prison of this city without her knowing it. "I thought I was marrying a seriously wounded soldier. I married a habitual criminal, me, the daughter of a lawyer and mother of 1 girl. It shows David stealing her jewelry and titles, then stripping the very wasteland of friends she had. Madame Deloustal gets up and pointing to David, exclaims: "That scoundrel is stealing everything." He even stole a gun from me and maybe that's why he's still alive. And my name was Mrs. David, I was the wife of that crook. I am the daughter of a lawyer, my father would never have treated a woman as you treat me".

At Hotel d'Orsay where he had settled, he had a secretary to whom he had promised 3,000 francs monthly salary and a typist at 450 francs.....
David had something better in hand, Renee Gaudin known as Augustina, his senior by six years. Mother already of a girl, but friend of a rich Greek commission agent, who had gifted her money and tens of thousands of dollars in jewellery.
From the Hotel d'Orsay, David and Renee Gaudin set out for Lyons where they took up residence there. The taking of possession of her wealth was such that Renée Gandin did not hesitate to confide to David her treasure as she believed him to be a millionaire, her jewels locked away in a safe.
When Renee Gaurdin returned to Paris, her briefcase contained nothing more than a stuffed animal of fur worth 25,000 francs, and the false jewels with which David had replaced because the real ones were sold by him.
When she confronted him he told her the briefcase had been stolen and found on the railway tracks, he had nothing to do with it.

REMIND YOU OF ANYONE!!!???

His fourth victim was Mademoiselle Helene Fournoux, who answered David's advertisement for a Secretary.
She fell in love with him........

Desire David's accomplices were his sister Elise David and his girlfriend Mathilde Tadieu - she came from a prestigious family who were surprised to find out she had been involved.......they were all arrested in Passy and jailed.

REMIND YOU OF ANYONE!!!???

And a bookshop owner, Helene Spiegel, joined the queue of complaints.

Released on bail, David strategically married Alice Dazel, daughter of a high judicial official, who gave evidence

that David had turned out a model husband and father.

So glad you shared this Mishy we wondered several times if he had come across the stories of this Desire and decided to model some of himself on him.

I have often wondered if this Desiree was a relative to Maria c’s desire and perhaps he had heard stories as a child of the infamous Desire.

Diane de Hedervary : Cause I like the country, I just felt like being in the country. Also, being in England, I could drive which I didn't have when I was in Europe. I could speak the language better, manage - you know, it was - all those things, having some connection for me, for friendship and driving and, yeah, I've - that was the main reason and I - I mean, I like the countryside so we went there.

Given her talk of "friendship" and "connection" in Burwash, and Blum being mostly away while they lived there, I have added a newspaper photo of her to the post about Blum on the "Burwash, Sussex Memories" FB group.

Just for no particular reason I googled “Nymboida, Grafton, and the middle of nowhere” and came up with a motorcyclist who described the middle of nowhere in Australia as the stretch between Grafton and Nymboida on Armidale Road. Hmmm.

Reckon RB might have known him? Or just heard the story and emulated it all?
This is too much!!

Very specific too! I reckon there’s gonna be a reference for everything he’s said.

Yes he isn’t original in any way and any story he produces is suspect. A lying liar who lies, how pathetic. He is probably a cookie-cutter type of criminal. There’s no “there” there. Did he contribute to the disappearance of Marion Barter? IMO yes. No matter how many times he runs to the deed poll he cannot escape his bad name. I hope in time charges will come, perhaps fraud, and he and later his estate are sued. Oh and I also hope he is deported.

Where do we all think the house is that Joni posted on TLV Facebook page?
I dont think I’ve seen it before. People in the comments seem to think it’s a coastal home.

I thought the sign on the front ( sticking out from the building) may indicate a bed and breakfast ?

I think the building name is Rallye which is French for Rally. So the building is likely in France or French speaking Belgium. Maybe on known the rally route.

I've always had a gut feeling about the Nymboida area. He testified that he doesn't even know where it is YET he told JO he owned 20,000 acres of red cedar trees there. He's obviously read or been told that cedar was once harvested there; it is a remote wilderness area with many dirt tracks into thick bush that are rarely traversed.

And the two umbrellas/pods at the front hint at some kind of commercial premises
