Oh, Casselden takes issue with the $80k. If it was transferred electronically overseas then RB wouldn't need to open the safety deposit box. But then again, why open the safety deposit box on the 14 October for no apparent reason?
MOO - to store MB's identity documents, safely away from his house, in case of any police search?

My take is that the Crown suggests RB was involved with Marion and lied to her about who he was, but are being VERY careful to not implicate him with stealing her money or with her disappearance, so as not to trigger criminal procedures.

Because if they suggest he was deceitful for personal financial gain, that is a crime. Obviously, also if he was responsible for her disappearance.

He's treading a fine line. Interesting. Not sure why.

Casselden says RB has a history of exploiting middle aged and vulnerable women. But doesn't think he had any involvement in withdrawing her money once she returned.
It’s not that he doesn’t think - it’s the the evidence doesn’t meet the requisite standard to make that inference.

did anyone note the driver's license for FNMR was effective from 1994 ? is this because they merged her old with her new ?

Time stamp - 1.27hr of the hearing

I think it was the time he renewed it. It originally got it in the 1980s.

Edit: My notes say
24 Aug 88 – Fernand Noklaus Remakel (QLD license)
2 Oct 1992 – resissued/renewed
10 Dec 1994 – Le Courrier rencontres
2 Dec 1997 – expired

Perhaps he meant the only time RB admits to using it was in 1994?

If I had to guess, it would suggest they know they don't have enough to convict, are still gathering info, particularly from overseas, and potentially doing surveillance. What RB does in the next few months and who he talks to will be very interesting, particularly if he thinks he 'got away with it'. MOO

I'm disappointed but I don't think this is over for RB. At least I hope not.

But then again, I've seen too many inquests go too lightly on culprits :(

I feel the same. There just isn’t enough evidence here unfortunately MOO

I found it! Timestamp isn't accurate because the stream is still current and counting, lol but it's in the first 5-10 minutes of the inquest.

Marion's QLD licence became active on 14 October 1994, presumably when she moved from NSW to start work at TSS. It expired on 3 October 1999.

The traffic record on screen has her name as FNMR, not MB.
It appears her licence kept the same number but she changed her name on it.

This is new information  we did not know she changed her name on her license.
If I'm not mistaken, we thought it was only her passport.

What else did she change her name on?

Inquest resumed. Burke is presenting her submission on behalf of NSW police.

Police view is that Sally one to Byron Bay police in October 1997 to inquire about fraudulent activity on Marion's bank account.

Hence, they don't believe it was a missing person's case.

But there were also notes on the system that claim, "there are concerns for the person's safety and welfare'.

Yes. My least favourite part of the entire inquest. The complete dismissal and washing hands of responsability is heartbreaking hard to hear. And must be repeat trauma for Sally all over again.

Wow, throw Sally under the bus...

  • #335
Wow I really hope that NSW polices submission isn't just about justifying why their actions weren't inadequate. How disappointing.

  • #336
So Sally is to blame for how the case was handled...

She should be wearing a mask IMO

That is so much conjecture. Bourke is saying that it's Sally's fault for having important info and not passing it on to police. She says, it's very sad because had Sally provided that info to police sooner, it would have made a difference to their investigation. It's gross and disgusting. As if Sally benefited from not resolving her mother's disappearance.
