I may be wrong here, but I thought C said that on the 8th of June was when he was first approached by Police and at that time he denied knowing Marion Barter and he denied ever using the name Fernand Remakel.

But then he contacted Police and made a statement on June 9th. He said he originally said he lied because his wife was there on the 8th and he didn't want her to hear about it as she never knew about it before.

But I may be wrong.. there was so much new information yesterday!

ETA: but yes I totally agree with you that he is trying to pretend it never happened!

This is how I heard it too. There must be something else in that statement he now wishes to refute or why else argue so much about it, unless it’s part of an unfolding ploy of his to misdirect.

C has the patience of Job, as does the Coroner, with his obvious contempt of the process and essentially the Australian “colonial” legal system.

His reaction to the wife of the first FR (I’m sooo lost with names now) is very different to others, more interest and respect, how ever his comment about her “having the monkey” with the Australians brings me sharply back to his contempt and disrespect for us colonials.

I do believe this process will be his undoing in Australia and overseas though. It is that just hope?

My heart goes out to Sally and his children with what we’re hearing (and maybe his wife - not sure how complicit or compliant or involved she was yet).

My understanding is that police spoke to him at home on the 8th.
The next day, RB went to police station and provided them with a signed statement.
Then they spoke again in September but the story started changing.
RB is denying both June and Sept incidents happened and is saying first contact was Oct/Nov.
Casselden pressed him why there was a difference between June and Sept, was it because he had more time to come up with a plan and story?
And RB replied that it was because he wife was present in June.
But that makes no sense because it still doesn't explain his written statement. He could have done that without his wife present.

Just because I wanted to double check my memory lol, I went back and listened to that line of questioning yesterday and Casselden says the statement the following day (9th of June) he does admit to knowing Marion. It's about 26mins in.

Just watching it again though, it's interesting because he says he denied the Fernand Remakel drivers license because he didn't want his wife to know. I guess I'm just thinking there is a difference between admitted he knew Marion Barter and admitting he had a different name license.

I don't think any of us would know the correct spelling of the first two names but my interpretation, as I can speak some French, is this:

1. Janine Le Roy
2. Nicole Renault (he said REN-O)

But I could be wrong.

Jeannine/jeanine Leroi/Le roi
Nicole Renaut/renault

So he renewed his FNR license:

24 Aug 88 – Fernand Noklaus Remakel (QLD license)
2 Oct 1992 – resissued
10 Dec 1994 – Le Courrier rencontres
2 Dec 1997 – expired

Claims he only used it once to place Le Courrier rencontres.
But otherwise kept it in his pocket / wallet without use until it expired.
Can't explain why he got it and kept it, especially as he was known by other names during that time.
Claims he lost it at some point after 1992. Possibly 1997.
Casselden was sassy and asked RB if he's lying. RB said no.
