Fun fact, NY has a place at Angourie. To get there you can either exit the pacific hwy and travel towards Yamba, then turn off before town, OR you can take the exit before Yamba, to Iluka and take a short ferry ride across.

Jane Austin’s house - posted from Guildford which is a new location for us to add to mums timeline.
Mum sent this postcard to a friend she taught with whilst on her trip to the UK in July 1997.
Very grateful this person has sent me a copy of the postcard as it has EXTREMELY IMPORTANT INFORMATION Mum has said in this postcard.
I want to encourage everyone to share mums story and if you have any pieces of information NO MATTER HOW SMALL

please send it along. If you or your family received a postcard from my mum it’s really vital we can see these to help piece together this gigantic puzzle.

If "posted from Guildford" means the postmark, rather than something MB wrote on the card, I think letters posted outside Guildford itself may also bear a Guildford postmark. I am investigating this.

Yes, a friend who lives in the area has now told me that "The Guildford postal area encompasses most of south west Surrey and even bits of Sussex. It’s super rural around there." If it is just a Guildford postmark on the card that is placing MB in Guildford, that is a broad region not the specific town of Guildford.

I live in a Guildford postcode area which is ‘GU’ this does indeed encompass some of Surrey and Sussex. BUT when a letter or postcard is sent it will have a stamp of the area it is posted such as ‘Guildford’. This is far more specific and will have only been sent in Guildford. It’s a very important distinction between postcode and where it has been sent from.

Also, Guildford is not super rural. It’s a thriving large town and could almost be classed as a small city.

Marion loved writing postcards and it makes you question whether Aka was present when she was writing them, and if so had some control over the content. He did say at the Inquest why does she never mention me if I was there.

Unless Marion wrote and posted the card on the day she was visiting Jane Austen’s house at Alton it would suggest to me she was staying near to Guildford as it’s a fair distance from Tunbridge Wells and Rye. Why travel to Hampshire and back, write the card and go back to West Surrey to post it?

The direction of journey indicates she was heading west to Winchester (the cathedral) and it’s not much further down to the port of Southampton where Aka boarded the SS Chusan and met his future wife Diane. He obviously knew the area.

I would like to know if there is a postmark date on the postcard. That could suggest again that Marion was still in the UK when she supposedly returned home to Australia, unlikely as though that seems now.

By the way Guildford is the County town of Surrey so isn’t that small. I go past it many times on my travels down the A3/A31.

Its fortunate Marion did leave some form of breadcrumb trail with her written words even though they sometimes beg more questions than they answer.

It’s game over for Aka if he put a comment or was mentioned in some way in Marion’s comments in the visitor book. I suspect he wouldn’t be that careless even pre Internet thousands of miles away from home. If Marion did comment in the visitor book did she use her new name? Did someone with her also comment? Another female or a new name to us?

IK had vowels in her name moved around ( seemingly aiding in keeping her grave site and details secret)

RB moved vowels around in his names to avoid them being connected through paperwork.

And now I just realised on looking details of the event up that MdHs middle name has also had a vowel swapped to spell chuson instead of chusan in court records.

Have we noted this occurrence in any of the other peoples names through documents we have viewed?

There is that connection to to one of NY children there. The one the same age as Blum son yes?

Not sure if his son BY is connected to Iluka yet, I’m having a browse online to see, but they (NY & BY) definitely have connections to Angourie and by default Iluka and Yamba.
Both Angourie and Iluka use Yamba as the main location for shopping facilities and other services.
