Just another thought regarding this workshop.

David Murray writes in The Australian that RB (he was using FdH at the time) attempted to change his name to Zabdiel Zillig for reasons of ‘personal transformation‘. The name change was attempted in 2005 in NSW. The course information provided by @KiwiNZ is for dates in 2006 & 2007 but the material talks about...

From the Trove link above it’s obvious that Ric Blum met up with the organizer of this White Magic workshop at least once on the Gold Coast. Possibly in Bali too. A group like this could provide an intimate atmosphere where romance could flourish.

These workshops would be rich hunting grounds for someone like Blum and it certainly looks like he was gearing up for a new scam. Fortunately the ZZ name change was denied…

Is this similar to one of those stories in that repulsive book I read we believed may have been written by Ric Blum? I've mostly blocked it out of my memory but there was a 'story' about some guy who set up a spiritual meditation class that turned into a small cult what with the leader being so attractive and mesmerising to women. Insert puke face smiley here.

Yes that book was lurking in the back of my mind when reading about the workshop with Alan Oken (now passed away) and Maggie Kerr (now apparently retired and out of the ‘biz’). I wonder how many participants would recall a nosy braggart who might have been unaccompanied by his Australian wife? Although I believe he would have gotten entry through DdH, simply because from the Bali photos it looks to me like she could dress the part.

Does anyone remember the statement from a woman who knew RB from her childhood and then came across him again in her working life, she said that she saw him at a "group" that was mainly attended by women. I couldn't think what sort of group was mainly attended by women but open to all, then I saw the group pics of Maggie Kerr's get togethers and I personally believe this is the group she was referring to. Although I can't actually see him in any of the pics online

Yes, I remember KiwiNZ. Thinking about it it's a fertile ground for finding people who are" searching" at a possibly vulnerable time in their lives. Time on their hands, possibly moneyed or at least comfortable ( these courses/retreats etc can be costly) also mostly attended by women but not exclusively usually -a man often gets attention at these kind of things because of the novelty of a man in what is perceived as a predominantly women's space.I can Also imagine that a man who is interested in esoteric pastimes and "seeking" would be quite endearing to some women because it's not macho, it's gentle and quite brave for a man.Also, women with commitments at home would probably find it difficult to find the time to attend. Grown up children who have flown the nest are better. Combined with possibly menopause/ loneliness/boredom/stress- all are vulnerabilities.He wants women in a specific demographic and he researches his hunting grounds. It's all part of his job.
He's clever like a bloodhound is.
I am still pondering the suspicion that he was involved with the Brabant gang.

Brabant gang: Definitely should be on the suspect list and hopefully being thoroughly investigated. He was in the vicinity at the time and I believe there is nothing so far to rule him out.

By that time he had honed his craft to operate undetected. He was only caught out in his younger years. He would have vastly expanded his “business” network and refined his skills after his stint in prison in the 70s. Although he is a grifter & a parasite, he is very industrious. There has got to be a lot more going on with him while he was living over there in the 80s

I agree that AKA would be drawn to the Gold Coast group promising spiritual growth but I also believe he was active in a second group setting mentioned briefly by teenage swimmer A on the podcast. This group appears to have been held at a different time and place.

A seems to have been located by Joni as part of her research into everything AKA. My notes are that A knew AKA and his family as a teenager participating in swimming events in Tasmania around 1990.

A then came across AKA as an adult in her professional capacity, working in health and living in Northern NSW. This suggests the interactions occurred in or around Ballina, rather than on the Gold Coast. A knew him this time as RB, and did not recognise him as the RdH she knew as a teenager. The TLV timeline shows AKA changed his name to RB in 2014, so the encounter was possibly 10+ years after the Gold Coast workshops held around 2005.

A says she saw AKA on numerous occasions and thinks she probably interacted with him 50 times. She also says that there were a lot of similarly aged women, not so many men there, and there was never any mention of him having a wife.

Her description makes me wonder if it was a local class targeting seniors, which would explain why the women were of a similar age. An exercise class run by a health professional is one option. There can be niche groups in regional areas - strength training, Pilates, dance or aqua aerobics and often held at a community centre. It could also be a peer support group, facilitated by a health worker such as a psychologist or social worker. I will generalise from my limited experience and say that there are exercise classes that for whatever reason mainly attract women, with a few male partners joining in. There can be a strong social component, with the group having coffee after the class, going out for Christmas lunch, etc.

I don’t think we have come across any reports of Australian victims from this time period, but that doesn’t mean that AKA wasn’t on the lookout for an opportunity, and especially a widow seeking help with valuation of a coin collection or similar.

Yes and AFAIK (correct me if I’m wrong) the original billboard still hasn’t been updated to reflect the increase. How hard could it be to have a sticker/poster made with increased reward amount put over the top… at worst, just get some paint and paint over it? ‍

What caught my eye on this website is a reference to Marion travelling to Luxembourg. “Marion, a former school teacher from Australia, embarked on a journey to Europe, particularly Luxembourg and the United Kingdom, and seemingly vanished without a trace.” and "Her journey took her to Luxembourg and the UK, countries both with a rich tapestry of history and culture."

It is not clear if this means there is evidence that Marion visited Luxembourg, or if it is referring to the information on her PAX card stating her intention to leave Australia to live in Luxembourg.

I wonder if Sally & Joni have been able to access Marion’s overseas travel history??? Surely this information is still available in digital form, even if the original paper records are no longer available. I’m hoping that Sally will be able to provide some updates soon without giving away too much information.

It would be great to get some updates and it's encouraging to hear there may be new discoveries behind the scenes that we the public aren't aware of. From my experience of reading this thread, there was never any suggestion that M had ever actually gone to Luxmbourg, just that one of her boarding cards or visa entry cards had stated that was her travel intention. As we know, all such papers could potentially have been forged and be part of a deception so it's not even sure if M wrote ever that herself, is it?
