Absolutely. As the mother of 4 sons, the oldest being 25, I am terrified of the emotionally needy, oddly desperate ones..

Absolutely a fair point, and I don't have any sons, but I do know for certain that it is VASTLY more often the other way round. (Woman murdered by psycho partner/ex-partner) Why don't we ascribe personality disorders to domestic violence cases when its perpetrated by a male? Because its so common?

I think that if there's one good thing that came from the whole horrible Jodi Arias trial, it's that people are more aware of women being quite as capable of truly heinous acts as men are.

I've known a few staunch Aussie lads over the years who've had trouble with obsessive, stalkerish females. It's embarrassing for them, so it's harder for them to admit being scared or unnerved, and this potentially puts them in danger one way or another.

Though usually it's a fake rape charge, or vicious and damaging rumours, or they get their male friends to beat a guy up, rather than stabbing them 30 times.. It's the same scary mentality, however.

That's such a good point Ausgirl. Maybe Morgan did notice some signs leading up to his death, but didn't take them seriously. Maybe the killer was getting a bit clingy, ringing a bit too much, turning up a bit too much, edging her way into other areas of his life.

On a side note, in the last few months I got Foxtel on Tbox as part of my Telstra package - not a great selection of channels, but I have been watching Stalked: Someone's Watching on Discovery. Fascinating show about how obsession can escalate so quickly.

I don't know why personality disorder lables are not applied equally.

As a single woman, and as an aunt to girls- I was/am equally afraid of the emotionally needy, oddly desperate males too.

I think it goes back to the not-so-good ol days when women who showed even some negative emotion were deemed hysterical (Freud, anyone?). However, there is definitely a tendency for more women than men to develop borderline type personality disorders, and quite often men who abuse or assault others are often seen to be antisocial, psychopathic or sociopathic.

But really they are just labels - people who abuse others are messed up in some way.

My daughter's only 14 (nearly 15! jeez, time flies..) and already is having to deal with some emotionally unhealthy boys. I'm proud of her self-awareness and strength in dealing with that, but it still worries me. All I can do is make sure she's comfortable talking to me about any concerns (in general) so I can monitor things as best as I can.

Makes me think of Morgan's poor mum. Imagine losing your son like that.

Regarding Morgan receiving "warning signs"...

I do hope that the perp did leave some tell-tale signs... i.e.... Messages in his phone... On his computer... snail mail letters... Etc...

anything that LE can use as guides towards the perp... And possibly evidence...

JMO...

I hope so too... although that would still be just circumstantial evidence. Which is probably another reason it's taking so long to nail down the evidence to ensure a successful prosecution.

That there hasn't been one suggests to me that either the DNA evidence isn't back yet, OR they can't match it to anyone yet, OR the killer was canny enough to make sure they didn't leave any.. which is a real can of worms to think about, lol.

This prompted me to start googling stuff related to DNA profiling, and in particular what happens when there is a mixture of DNA in one sample - since it's highly likely that if Morgan's killer bled at the scene, her blood might be mixed with his.

I have a long way to go yet to fully understanding the process, but my initial reading suggests that where there is a mixture, you can definitely eliminate a suspect, but you cannot conclusively include a suspect based on the mixed sample. And even then, it seems this only possible if you have a clean sample from your suspects.

I'm reading info dated from 2011 at this stage, not sure yet if there have been any further advances since then.

Another thing I remember from watching true crime docos is that when there is a sample of the offender's DNA from the crime scene but it is too small to be able to do a DNA profile with, they need to increase the size of the sample using a technique called PCR, where they "amplify" the size of a sample by making it replicate in a test-tube. The docos I watched were a few years old, but I remember they said that the process is very time consuming - I can't remember, but I think it ran into weeks to obtain a sample big enough to get a good reliable DNA profile, and it's a very error prone process as contamination can occur and multiply a 'dirty' sample. This info may be outdated now, I'm trying to find more up to date information that may say how long it actually takes these days.

So maybe more reasons for the time it's taking...?

Does anyone out there know much in this area who might be able to share some knowledge with us?

OK in the Travis Alexander / Jodi Arias case her blood was mixed at the scene, and it took about 4-5 weeks to get that DNA back before they could make the arrest .. as soon as they had it they grabbed her. Crime committed June 4, body found around June 10, she was arrested July 15 .. I'm assuming DNA arrived at the lab on June 11 from that .. don't know when they started testing it though.

talking in dress sizes is a kinder way than saying larger sized woman around 80kgs

I don't recall anyone else pointing out the dress size or attractiveness or otherwise of Morgan's ex-partners/current partners, as that is a matter of subjectivity, is it not?

You must have missed it. Thankfully mods deleted it. It was awful.

There's no kind way to talk about a woman's "large size", whether it's by way of dress size or weight.

Well said fruity.

Oh my goodness ... thankful that I missed that convo .. do we not have enough anorexia and low self-esteem in the world without fuelling that fire?!

It is like the skinny stunners comment that someone made previously ... grrr!

Let's encourage our kids to grow up eating healthy, living healthy, and having that piece of chocolate cake if they want it!

The lack of new info in MSM to me is indicative that they don't require any public help to identify potential POI's.
I believe that they're just tidying up their case and gathering enough solid evidence to make an arrest. They have no doubt tapped phones etc and the suspect is also likely to be under surveillance IMO.

This is 2 Sundays in a row that we've not got anything new...

This wait for an arrest must be horrific for his family and friends. They no doubt have a fair idea of who it was and would be itching for justice to be served.

I agree Humdinger. Requests for public assistance in this case have now ceased and I do believe that the police know the identity of Morgan's killer. All of the forensic and toxicology tests will take some time and will be dependent on any backlog of other cases already in the system. I would imagine that the killer would be feeling the walls start to close in about now.
