I'm curious if anyone knows the answer. Neighbours have said in interviews that people would leave things out for LT. What kind of things would they be leaving out by the bins for her? Wouldn't in be easier for them just to put their own things in the right bin etc? I just don't understand this, so maybe I'm missing what it is they were actually leaving out for her.
I am wondering if might be cans and bottle for taking to a cash for cans like place

If someone was going to go thru rubbish and sort recyclables regularly, don’t you think they would definitely use gloves, and most likely a “pick up“ stick???

Like this …

Just as an awful reference … there is a lady in our local town that goes around the bins collecting cashable recycling … and she uses these …

I've seen people searching through bins and all of them just used their hands.
None used pick up sticks.

A friend of mine in Sydney sorts through the bin room of the unit complex and recycling pretty much every day. He doesn't use one of these or gloves. Im actually wondering if he has seen this in the media as he has others in complex crack it at him doing the same thing Lesley did,

Good to see they are wearing PPE gear and air is being monitored. What a horrible task. If Leslie is found I cant imagine the officers involved and what they will go through. Also Leslie's family has to endure this whole situation.

It looks like some of them are wearing their uniforms. I wonder if they can be washed or if they need to dispose of them/burn them. Just a silly little thought I had.

They mentioned the searchers having to be decontaminated each day.
So I think maybe their PE gear has to be either disposed of or decontaminated in some way.

Can any one help please???

I have been searching for a specific Early News Article, or it may have been a News Clip???

It mentions that Police knew Lesley was alive up to 11pm on the 27th March, and we assumed they knew this information by way of technological data of some sort….phone, laptop, iPad, etc

Does anyone have a link to this please ??? Or know which news clip???

Greatly appreciated if you can assist, as it may be important for a time line in the future …..

Many thanks x

"Lesley Trotter, 78, was last in contact with family at 11am on March 27"
Bins seized as missing woman Lesley Trotter declared dead

Police believe Trotter's death could have occurred between midnight on March 27 and midday on March 28, but didn't reveal the details which have led them to their conclusion.
Neighbours of missing Brisbane woman believed to be dead speak out

Will post it here if I come across anything that indicates proof of life up until midnight.

Tootsie posted the link yesterday.

Det Supt Massingham said teams would be able to comb through about 200 tonnes of rubbish a day, weather permitting, and the search would take about two to three weeks.

"This is very much a hand-and-eye type search, using rakes and indiscriminate-type equipment to sort through the general waste," he said.

Searchers clad in personal protective equipment will need to be decontaminated at the end of each shift and air quality will be monitored during the search.

I tried to find out about the potential success of a landfill search, statistically as opposed to opinion.

According to the only study I could find (from North America, done in 2019) there is at least a 50% chance Lesley will be found.
Although, I think it is possible that because it has been less than 30 days since Lesley disappeared, there might be a greater chance. Seems to me that it would be a case of the sooner, the better.

A comprehensive analysis of landfill searches for human remains suggests if searchers don't start within a month of a body ending up in a landfill — and commit to spending at least as long looking — the potential for recovery drops dramatically.

"At the 30-day mark, the chances of being successful are near even, but they drop precipitously after a month has passed"

The authors of the American study, which was published in the journal Forensic Archaeology in January 2019, reviewed 46 landfill searches in the U.S. between 1999 and 2009. Of those, 20 — or 43 per cent — were successful. The successful searches took 17 days on average.

Searches that got underway within 30 days of remains being deposited were most successful, and searching for at least 30 days also increased the odds of success. Over 90 per cent of the successful recoveries happened within that "magic" window, said Paulsen.

The study discourages law enforcement from searching after two months had passed.
"There was instances of recovery after 30 days, but it was much, much rarer"

I don't mean to be gruesome but I hope they guard that site at night, with cameras at a minimum. To watch for predators. Real vultures...

I am sad for Lesley and her family. But I am heartened by the tremendous effort by LE to find her....

The helpers.

Thanks South,

That article is both encouraging and depressing all at the same time.
It does give hope that Lesley will be found.

But sad for other missing people who most likely will never be found.

Not silly at all. They should be wearing coveralls. One can only hope that there is no asbestos illegally dumped in there. There was a waste facility some time ago in NSW where someone did asbestos removal and then threw several sheets of it in the recycle bin. It was picked up in the truck taken to the facility, dumped in the sorting area and then it was discovered once the staff started sorting the file. Unfortunately, by then it had been broken up in the truck and was then all through that entire pile. The facility was shut down for cleaning however staff had already been exposed to it sorting. I asked our tip guy a while back if they ever find it dumped illegally. We have those recycle tip shops on site so they do go through the dump salvaging things to sell. He did comment that they have been trained to spot it and what it looks like compared to the newer stuff and they do come across it regularly.

So yeah these guys really should have full protective clothing on

I am currently watching an American series (older) called Disapeared

It is several episodes on suspicious disappearances of people who had never been found and no clue as to why or how they went missing. Great show but bloody sad. years later the family still has no closure.
