POLICE are appealing for public assistance in identifying a woman whose body was located in water at Nelson Bay on Monday morning.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out this week, a police statement said.
The woman had not been identified on Monday afternoon.
Her cause of death is yet to be determined.
The woman is described as being of Caucasian appearance, possibly aged in her late 30s or early 40s, about 170 centimetres tall, with a slim build and short dyed blonde hair.
Police said the woman had body piercings and a number of distinctive tattoos.
She was wearing a blue crochet top, with a bikini top underneath, and green denim Rusty cut-off shorts at the time of her death.
