From the footage available and this detail it seems (in my opinion) he really was targeting women and children.

The only male dead was a security guard. It seems like the attacker was focused on women.
I watched a video where he avoided men.

One victim's family has requested no photos of the victims. I can't imagine what they are going though. <hugs> to all of those who care for the victims or were exposed to the trauma of the attack.

So shocking, so pointless. Maybe @Beginnersleuth could have some insight into the mental health issues?

He likely went for the ‘easiest’ targets not necessarily that he had it out for women. He likely wanted to cause as much carnage as possible.
The poor mum and the baby - sounds like she was stabbed multiple times and the baby in the stomach. She may have been holding her baby at the time of the attack and as such was an easier target for him as she couldn’t use both hands/ arms to fight him off and couldn’t run either. So tragic

I am trying to be careful with what I say as I know mental health issues come in a variety of circumstances. It seems this guy was stabbing mostly women. That's a choice and no matter how much mental health issues can manifest, I think this was entirely deliberate. These women, and the poor baby girl who was stabbed, were randomly selected but still targeted I think. Imo moo

It's definitely possible that he was going for the 'easy targets'. But he ran by several males that he could have 'easily' stabbed when they weren't putting up any meaningful defense. I think he was seeking out women, but I might be wrong. I would like to know more.

I found the video on YouTube; here is a link for those who can’t access the Daily Telegraph video.

Queensland Health has issued a statement, extending their sympathies to everyone involved.

They state that Qld Health treated the killer for mental health issues over a decade ago, but he transferred to a private sector psychiatrist in 2012.

You can see in the photos from the mall he is 20kg lighter in recent times. His face is all sunken in and he has veins protruding through the skin of his arms. This to me suggests more someone with drug addiction, likely meth, who also happened to have schizophrenia.

Jmo
Not necessarily.

Anorexia can be something that happens with schizophrenia. For example, someone might refuse food because they think it's being poisoned.

MOO

Qld Police Assistant Comm Roger Lowe speaking in a presser right now ... killer was not listed as a threat, had no employment to his knowledge, no domestic violence orders or other orders against him.

Majority of contact with police was from 2020 onwards, it was a "different kind" of contact. They were aware he had mental health issues.

Periodically texted his mother to update her where he was.

Single man, no family.

In early 2023 ... there was an event police responded to, something to do with him and his family.

He has led an itinerant lifestyle over last couple of years. At Kangaroo Point and Carina in Brisbane, and at his family’s home in the southern police region.

Agreed. It's easy to jump on the sexist bandwagon but nobody will ever truly know aside from him what his real intentions were.

"Speaking on condition of anonymity to protect his business, the man said he sharpened two eight-inch knives of Cauchi’s.

“He wasn’t right, he was a weird-looking cat. His words were ‘these are my everyday knives’. I thought, why? They’re not even decent knives. He wasn’t a passionate knifey, but a guy who liked his knives. I didn’t know why he said everyday knives.”"

"Police sources not authorised to speak publicly said Cauchi was known to police in Queensland but did not have a criminal record.

Police believe Cauchi lived with schizophrenia and used drugs including methamphetamine and psychedelics."

"They were investigating a potential history of targeting women.

Cauchi had listed himself on Empire Escorts, a website on which anyone can upload a profile and solicit for sex work, in Sydney in June last year.

Unlike some listings, Cauchi’s did not feature explicit photographs of him."

Can anyone tell me which is his profile on the escort site? I can't tell. Maybe it's been removed? WARNING ITS NOT SAFE FOR WORK EXPLICIT IMAGES

Unless he's left a diary or something. I hope so
