I think if we look at the trend here these types of running down people in the streets is a worldwide problem and hasn't just happened in Australia, but happening everywhere. Why? We need to dig deeper as to what is really going on with it all? Are these perpetrators just useful idiots for a political agenda, of keeping the war on terror going or is it something else?
And it's your govts. wreaking terrible havoc in the mid east wars to the point of people fleeing their countries as refugees to seek somewhere safe to be for themselves so they don't get bombed back into the stone age. IMO there is an agenda here and its not normal everyday people that are the problem. Surely any real terrorist gets that? Most people are just trying to survive in the world day to day, so its definitely not our agenda, but we are the fallout from it all, unfortunately.
Until we say a big fat "no" to war and running interference in other people's countries, i think we will get more of the same. All IMO.

‘Our father Anton had his life cruelly taken away in a senseless act of violence,” the family said in a statement.

“These circumstances are devastating to our family. Dad is simply irreplaceable and we will never fully recover from this loss.

He was a beloved husband of Elizabeth (dec), adored father of Freda, Tony and Bill, and cherished grandfather of Verity, Lysander and Jackson.

Friend to all and proud citizen of Australia.

Our deepest gratitude to the wonderful people of Melbourne and dedicated first responders who rendered him and others every assistance. Special mention to the caring staff of The Alfred Intensive Care Unit.

Our dad, our hero.”’

So now, will one of the charges be upgraded to murder? I certainly hope so.

I said I never saw METH cause someone to ram into a crowd on purpose. Many are blaming his meth usage.

Those examples that you linked were not meth users, as far as I can tell.

I don't think this man's meth usage is to blame. JMO

Do you think that his religious beliefs are irrelevant to this case?

Just for clarification, I don't think his meth use is to blame for this incident. In the way that a meth user may fight the police, or throw punches at paramedics.

I think his prolonged and ongoing meth use is a probable cause of his mental impairment. Contributing greatly to his inability (temporary or not) to logically recognise our country has tried to rescue him from the political situation he fled from. His inability to recognise that he should not be turning on our people. His inability to recognise that we do not treat Muslims - or any specific demographic - badly in this country.

We are not the Taliban. We did not create his situation.

I think his meth use has messed his head up. So then he acted out a political incident. (If that makes sense. Bit hard to explain how I am feeling about it.)

Flinders Street crash: victim Bec Larrigan tells of trauma
Staff Writer
News Corp Australia Network
JANUARY 15, 2018 9:48pm

‘A SURVIVOR of the Flinders Street crash has spoken for the first time of her trauma and how the incident — which left her with devastating injuries — has changed her life.

Bec Larrigan was one of 19 people injured on December 22 when driver Saeed Noori allegedly drove his car through the crowded intersection in Melbourne’s CBD.

She was thrown into the air and landed on the road with a broken leg, elbow and bleeding on the brain.

Chillingly, Ms Larrigan told A Current Affair one of her vivid memories of the horrific crash is “seeing bodies everywhere” as she was lying on the ground “thrashing around in pain”.’

‘Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre director Professor Jayashri Kulkarni said victims of the crash would likely suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder*.

“The acute symptoms of the actual anxiety — panic and having bad dreams or reliving the trauma — is obvious, awful but obvious,” she said.

“The more difficult PTSD to deal with is things that happen more chronically or for an extended period of time.”’

[* I seriously doubt if any any of the victims of Mr Noori, who was also reported as having PTSD, will be using a vehicle to mow down innocent pedestrians — ever.]

Bec Larrigan was one of 19 people injured on December 22.

Not just a name now but a face, a woman like anyone of us.
Innocently going about her day. Possibly earning HONEST money to feed her family.

Then this cowardly filthy parasitic cretin decided to use a vehicle to injure as many as he could.

I’m horrified with this new malice. It bloody NOT Australian. In case I offend a tree hugger I’ll quit now.

I completely agree with you ... I believe this was a lone wolf attack.

However, apparently, the legal threshold to charge him as a terrorist was not met. Perhaps they should revisit and revise those legal thresholds. It seems that they consider how much the perpetrators mental health played a part. But, to me, these radicalised persons are all mentally unwell. Why should that make them exempt from accurate charges for their crimes??

The decision not to declare the Flinders Street attack a terrorist incident was made by the joint management committee, a counter terrorism steering committee made up of assistant commissioners from the Australian Federal Police, Victoria Police and ASIO.

The committee convened by phone hook-up on Thursday and decided the legal threshold had not been met to charge Mr Noori with terror offences.

The relationship between Islamic extremism and mental illness is controversial, some arguing any emphasis on mental illness diminishes culpability in radical Islam in motivating terrorists.
