I'm just wondering if everyone has (media/police) just assumed that staff park in the guest parking. The lady in the blog certainly didn't when she worked at the Parmelia. There was a Wilsons carpark next door and PCC one across the road at the time. (Both outdoors and easily accessible). Whereas the Parmelia undercover carpark wasn't so accessible. Whichever it was might tell whether her abductor was known to her.

Vernon Silich's dad (Robert George Silich) worked in the CIB's Company Fraud Squad at the time of the Leopold Nickel core salting scam was being investigated by the CIB. Although Vernon was a child at the time, no doubt he heard his dad bragging about the many cases that he worked on and most likely heard many rumours and stories at social gatherings that his father took him along to.

Brian Cutler is convinced his niece wouldnt have taken her own life. If she was the victim of foul play he believes it would be because she stopped to help someone on Stirling highway.
Her uncle said "I was very close to her. The whole family was. She spoke on the phone to her grandmother last week and I saw her a couple of weeks ago. Next week she was going up to Kalgoorlie to visit her father.
She wasnt a drinker. The most you could say it's that she was a very mild social drinker. Everybody that I've spoken to has said that she was in no way intoxicated when she left the hotel. She wasnt one of those people who would drink and drive. The whole situation is baffling".

Her uncle saying she wasnt a drinker contradicts what her father has said on 2 occasions.

Daily news 27Jun88. "Father Fears Worst" She liked parties and enjoyed a drink.

Sunday Times 09Jul00. "Vanished woman's uni link to suspect". She knew the Claremont area well, she was known to have drinks there.

It's defiantly been saturation coverage with all news papers covering the new reward and asking for more information. The reporter or cop in this article gets their dates wrong though, saying the car was found on 20th June and asking for people to come forward from that Saturday night to early Monday morning.

I thought I saw an article once, that said that Julie often called into a relative that she was close to in Mosman Park. Was that her Grandmother or Aunty? Could be relevant I suppose, because I noted in Google Search that someone by the same name, but not the disappeared Julie, comes up in courses at a public library called the Grove Library.

Julie Leanne Cutler was 22 years of age at the time of her disappearance. She enjoyed reading, writing and socialising with friends. She was working casually at the Parmelia Hilton Hotel in Perth as a room attendant and lived in Fremantle with a female flat mate.

CASE DETAILS:

On the evening of Sunday 19 June 1988, Miss Cutler was working at the Parmelia Hilton Hotel, 14 Mill Street, Perth. After finishing her shift, she attended a staff awards night at Julianna’s night club, which was part of the Parmelia Hilton. It is believed that around 180 people attended this function until around 12.30am on Monday 20 June 1988.

Miss Cutler and a female co-worker left the work function, walking together to the staff parking area of the hotel. Miss Cutler was seen by her co-worker bending into the open front passenger side door of her car. Miss Cutler’s car was a two-tone grey and black Fiat sedan registered number 6CW749. It is believed that Miss Cutler then re-entered the hotel and function until it finished, before returning to her vehicle and driving away. The Fiat sedan was last seen turning left from Mill Street onto Mounts Bay Road.

Miss Cutler did not arrive home in Fremantle that night. She did not attend work at the hotel for her rostered shift later that day.

In the morning of Tuesday 21 June 1988 Miss Cutler’s flat mate reported her missing.

VEHICLE LOCATED:

About 11.45am on Wednesday 22 June 1988, Miss Cutler’s car was located several metres off the shore-line at Cottesloe Beach by a swimmer. The car was about half way between the Surf Life Saving Club and the groyne. At this time the car was upside down, half buried in the sand. The rear seat of the vehicle was located separate to the vehicle.

The person or persons responsible for Miss Cutler’s disappearance have not yet been identified.

These two pieces of information could have helped with the investigation. Knowing she had a flat mate who may have had information about a boyfriend or about the break in and road rage issue.

She turned left from Mill St onto Mounts Bay Road - is that how you would drive to the Casino or was she heading for Stirling Highway to go home. She may have encountered her road rage guy! JMO

I went for a walk around the Parmelia Hilton this evening paying particular attention to find any evidence of an entry or exit to the carpark onto Mills St. I could not find any, not any evidence that there ever had been one. There is plenty to suggest that the exit was where it still is onto the Esplanade next to Mercantile Lane. The only difference is that buildings now stand where the old Outdoor carpark was , but the entry and exit points are still in the same locations as the curbing attests. Simply put. Julie could not exit onto Mills Street. There is a median strip on the Esplanade making a left turn towards Barrack St the only possible direction to go. I say Barrack St, because in 1988 you could turn right from the Barrack St Jetty end onto Riverside Drive to go to Fremantle, which is not possible nowadays due to Elizabeth Quay, or left to the Causeway towards the Casino. Anyhow, I carefully looked at the curbing and path on Mills St and found absolutely no evidence of any of it being relaid since the 80's hiding an old crossover. Therefore the article is incorrect. The Fiat must've been seen exiting onto the Esplanade heading East, not Mills St.

Judgment in the nickel of time

Here's the thing, Neale Prior gets it quite wrong, we do know what happened to Cutler. He's the uncle of the missing Julie Cutler, and has been extensively quoted in the very same newspaper prior to Neale making this erroneous statement at the end of the article.
What we really don't know is who stole the original judgement from the Supreme Court archives, and why?

It would be good to know when the record of the Leopold Judgement was removed from Supreme Court filing, but alas it wasn't mentioned in the article.

If anyone has the time, can they go through the following resources to see who was employed at the Supreme Court between 1972 and 1988, in particular look at low level clerical officers who would most likely be doing the filing. It would be handy to have family trees of criminals or suspects, and a list of their associates etc, but unfortunately I don't, so just look for anything obvious. Like Dave Everett etc.

Interestingly, she parked across from Mill St in the old PCC carpark. Reports however state that Julie parked in the Parmelia instead. So which was it actually?

PCC is an acronym for Perth City Council?
