Deputy premier seeks legal advice on Gold Coast councillor Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden who is charged with murder

A Gold Coast councillor charged with the alleged murder of his stepfather will remain in his position as an elected official until further notice, according to the city's mayor.
Division 7 councillor Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden, 30, has been charged with murder over the death of his stepfather Robert Lumsden, 58.
Mr Lumsden was active politically and with sporting clubs in the area of the Gold Coast where his stepson was elected to council.

This case will be an interesting one to follow, RBL is claiming his step father was controlling, manipulative and abusive and he feared for his life after a confrontation with him on the 23rd August.

Gold Coast councillor Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden to seek early bail on murder charge

An urgent bail application has been confirmed for this Thursday by the Supreme Court, a lawyer says
Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden has been in custody since he was charged with the murder of his stepfather last week
One of Mr Bayldon-Lumsden's lawyers says his client will plead not guilty

Gold Coast councillor Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden, charged with murdering stepfather, released on bail after urgent hearing

Arguing why the 30-year-old should be released on bail pending any committal hearing, barrister Craig Eberhardt KC told the court the accused lived at home in what was a "dysfunctional, toxic relationship characterised as malignant, narcissistic abuse".
He said that in the councillor's police interview, which ran for nearly three hours, he "sobbed" as he spoke of how his stepfather "controlled, manipulated, dominated, humiliated, abused and threatened him for years".

"He told police he recently sought advice from a domestic violence hotline because of his stepfather's increasingly erratic and threatening behaviour," he said.

Two days before the fatal argument with his sted-dad, RBL had googled whether a person would go to jail if they killed someone in self defence.
Will this mean premeditation or random googling while researching about domestic violence? Idk.

Emergency services were called to the Chifley Place home in Arundel, where Mr Bayldon-Lumsden resided alongside his mum, stepdad and half-sister Ruth, just after 3pm following an alleged “disturbance”.

The DPP will allege he placed his stepfather in a fatal chokehold after an argument between the pair.
It will also be alleged that the history between the two men was motive for Mr Bayldon-Lumsden to murder his stepfather.

It’s alleged Mr Lumsden had repeatedly threatened to report the councillor for misconduct for bringing home confidential files from council if he were to move out of the house.

...
His defence barrister, Mr Eberhardt said his client’s life had effectively been controlled by Mr Lumsden for many years, including managing his finances, relationships and career.

“He told police his stepfather had controlled, dominated, humiliated, abused and threatened him for years,” Mr Eberhardt said.
...
His mother had in her written affidavit to the court confirmed that her partner, Mr Lumsden, had controlled their family for many years.
Justice Lincoln Crowley referred to Ms Bayldon’s affidavit when he granted bail to the councillor on Thursday.

This article has a lot of information about the family dynamics and history, even, the weight of the victim compared to RBL. RBL is noted as 30 years of age, not 27.

Councillor accused of murder Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden asked to explain why he should not be suspended

A Gold Coast councillor charged with the murder of his stepfather has been given until Friday to explain why he shouldn't be suspended with pay.

Acting Premier Steven Miles said it would be difficult for Mr Bayldon-Lumsden's electorate staff to work because they were likely to be witnesses in the case.
"It would be very, very difficult for him to interact with them, and therefore also difficult to service that community," he said.
He said there was nothing in the Queensland Local Government Act to stop him running for re-election next year if there is no outcome from a trial.

This is unusual, not sure what to think.
