Australia - Melissa Hoskins, 32, Olympian cyclist, struck & killed by ute, husband Rohan Dennis arrested and charged - Medindie, SA, 30 Dec 2023

Is he going to be sentenced tomorrow? It says Guilty Plea Arraignment. It doesn't say Sentencing, as other cases on the court list do.

This link says that a guilty plea arraignment in South Australia is .... If the accused has already pleaded guilty, the Judge will either listen to sentencing submissions, or organise another time for sentencing submissions to be made - usually within a few weeks.

The court list says he will appear before Judge Press. Who seems to be hearing all guilty plea arraignments at 9am and again at 9:30am.

This other link says that if a person pleads guilty within 4 weeks of their first court case on that charge, they can get a 25% discount on their sentence, ranging down to a 5% discount if they plead guilty before arraignment.

Maybe he will be eligible for a 25% discount, because I think he immediately pleaded guilty to a new charge, didn't he?
And the two original charges were dropped.

From this news article, I think he may be sentenced tomorrow.

Dennis will now face sentencing at the District Court.

His next appearance in court is booked for January 24 and he remains on bail.”

Everything seems stacked in the alleged murderers’ favour.

Yes, I remember that. Just confusing why it says Guilty Plea Arraignment and not Sentence - as other cases that are getting a sentence tomorrow say.

For example, if you look at the 1st case in "Court 4 at 9:30AM - Before Judge Matteo" it says it will be for a Sentence.
And the 1st case in "Court 5 at 9:30AM - Before Judge Alexandrides" says Sentencing Submissions.

I guess we will have to wait and see.

I should think he will at least be made to take a course on Anger Management.

The problem is, out in the community, guys like this end up on Tinder and other women fall in love with them and so begins the cycle again.

He should come with a warning label.

What would be an appropriate sentence? Any opinions?

I'm still not seeing this as anything other than her being the aggressor and him trying to escape. It even seems there is now CCTV footage showing this to be the case:
It has now come to light that Ms Hoskins was chasing Dennis’ ute before the tragedy unfolded, The Australian reports.

According to the bombshell report, Ms Hoskins jumped on the bonnet of the car as Dennis departed the family home in Medindie.

It has been alleged CCTV footage then showed Ms Hoskins running beside the vehicle before she was struck and injured after reaching for a door handle.

Except he didn't stop to render care or call for help after running her over... She is not here to tell her side but this is very telling of his mindset. IMO

No news yet, only a video showing the alleged murderer leaving court this morning….

Olympic cyclist Rohan Dennis fronts Adelaide District Court for guilty plea arraignment

The heartbroken family of an Olympic cyclist are expected to deliver victim impact statements detailing their pain and grief to the court.

Olympic cyclist Rohan Dennis is expected to hear from the heartbroken family of his wife and fellow Olympian Melissa Hoskins in court, with victim impact statements set to be tendered in the case that has shocked Australia’s sporting community.

At his guilty plea arraignment at Adelaide District Court on Friday, a clean-cut Dennis stood quietly in the dock before judge Ian Press as the sentencing process in his case began.

Prosecutor Stephanie Moore indicated to Judge Press that “some” victim impact statements would be “forthcoming”.

Jessica Kurtzer, appearing for Dennis, said “at least an hour” would be required for sentencing submissions, which Judge Press scheduled for April 14.”

“This morning Dennis appeared in the Adelaide District Court, his latest hearing since he was arrested in December 2023 following the death of his wife Melissa Hoskins. Dennis was allegedly driving the vehicle that struck and ultimately killed Hoskins, with Dennis initially being charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without due care, and endangering life.

In the intervening year, the charges against Dennis have been downgraded to an aggravated act likely to cause harm, which Dennis pleaded guilty to in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in December 2024.

When the morning’s court session began, Dennis sat in the back row of the courtroom alongside a small group of supporters. Among them were his long-time friend, the “cognitive performance consultant” Dr David Spindler, and fellow former professional racer Adam Hansen, now president of the CPA – the professional male cyclists’ union. Prior to entering the courtroom, Dennis had appeared in good spirits, smiling and joking with his support group.”

His next court appearance is scheduled for 14th April, 2025.

“There, the court will likely hear victim impact statements relating to Hoskins’ death. Dennis will then be sentenced at a later appearance, likely several weeks or months after that April date. The charge Dennis has pleaded guilty to carries a maximum sentence of seven years’ imprisonment and a five-year loss of his driver’s license.”

I am guessing that David Spindler and Adam Hansen are actually in Adelaide for the Tour Down Under, which is currently happening.

Because Spindler apparently now lives in Luxembourg (as per his LinkedIn), and Adam Hansen apparently now lives in the Czech Republic (as per Wiki).

imo

Isn't there something called "leaving the scene of a crime"?

Isn't there something called "leaving the scene of a crime"?

Even leaving the scene of a car accident in SA qualifies for up to 12 months in jail and / or a driving disqualification period of at least 6 months. And if a person has been hurt, it is more.

His defence has obviously "negotiated" well, to have him facing just one reduced charge. imo

The Road Traffic Act 1961 states that a driver of a motor vehicle involved in a car accident in South Australia must stop their vehicle and give all assistance possible if a person has been killed or injured as a result of the accident.

In addition, the motorist must present at a police station to provide information regarding the accident no more than 90 minutes after it occurs.

If a motorist fails to comply with these rules, they may face a term of imprisonment of up to 5 years and / or a driving disqualification of at least 1 year.

Dennis’ matter is due in SA Magistrate’s court on Monday 14th April, 2025.

But I think only victim impact statements will be heard on Monday, and his sentence will be given at a later date.

His charges have been majorly lessened to:-

Charge: CAUSE DEATH BY DANGEROUS DRIVING - BASIC OFFENCE / DUE CARE - AGGRAVATED
OFFENCE

😡😡😡

I can’t find his name listed on the usual listing site for the Magistrate’s court for Monday.

But I did find it on a court listing, but wasn’t the usual listing site.

The first link you posted is for Magistrate's Court listings. He's not listed because he's not appearing in that court.

The information post from the second link indicates a meeting room at the Sir Samuel Way Building, which is the District Court. That would track with media reporting such as the one linked below 'Mr Dennis will now face sentencing at the District Court.'
