Couple of years ago, my huzbun and adult stepdaughter were out one night flying his drone. He was at the controls and she spotting because it was quite dark. Suddenly, they fetched me from the house in a frenzy. The drone had flown over our roof top, across the street, past the neighbor's house and away into the night. We searched and searched, not only that night but many a day after. It may be flying still. We laugh about it yet.

Depending on the circumstances of its discovery, Russell's drone may have been another red herring.

Hopefully, our questions will be answered and our curiosities satisfied soon.

Why did the daughter call to tell Russell's wife? Why didn't the police? Is it because they are also suspicious? Did the daughter ring in a panic saying oh 🤬🤬🤬🤬, they figured out it was a murder and worrying about the consequences of participating.

I heard a vague story a few years ago about a couple who died while out flying their plane. Their deaths were no accident. They told only a couple of people about their plan to commit suicide together but make it look like an accident so their child would still be able to claim insurance. Extreme but true. I don't think that is the case here but gives me the chills thinking about the extremes some people will go to for money or to avoid money problems.

One last post...the car being locked after supposedly being ransacked is weird to me. Why protect the car unless you wanted it back?

A drone has been found in the search zone for two missing campers who vanished in the Victorian Alps almost a year ago.
Police confirmed a drone was handed into them over the weekend.
The drone will be examined to determine whether it is the camper's missing drone and if it has any relevance to the investigation.

Drone found in search zone of missing Victorian campers

Wow, it's a drone! I hope it's theirs and VicPol find the answers.
Wow, just heard this on the late news. Surely they must know if it is the same type of drone as Russell's drone.
Guess we will have to wait and see. And hope that there are some answers.

Hope the drone find does lead to something.

They can end up in all sorts of places. Some friends drone ended up first try at the top of a very large and tall tree.
It's probably still there to this day.

If the drone is Russell's, I'm not sure how they could tell, unless he registered it.
Or if there is footage of him or Carol, and maybe their voices and it can be accessed.

Also would there be any fingerprints that haven't been affected by the weather.

Maybe whoever attacked them, killed them because they either couldn't or wouldn't hand over the drone.

I guess it could also be that a person who took the drone, lost it. If they had remained in the general area, they could have decided to try to fly it ..... but didn't know what they were doing, and lost it. Or maybe they just discarded it. I wonder if it is smashed up, or all in one piece.

Do we know exactly where it was found yet? I heard that it was "in the area". That could mean anything.

Wouldn't that be a solution to a murder investigation, a drone taking photos of the perp flying it,?

I wonder why LE announced it had been found? They had the option to keep quiet until they'd checked it out.

I imagine the drone would have a serial number. Surely that would be recorded somewhere else as well. Guarantee documents?

Very exciting news about the drone. I didn’t see this coming. Indeed what a treat would be if the perp(s) would be found on some pictures.
It is of course always the possibility that it was someone else’s, although having been found in the area (if that’s the truth) is promising.

Not only that, but nowadays most technical equipment asks to register it to an account while installing and using it the first time for the eventual future debugging and software updates.
I never had a drone myself, thought. So this is just a guess.

I think someone earlier in the threads - who knew what they were talking about with regard to drones - said that once your drone is registered, the drone company can get activity information (if the drone has been active or not) or something like that.

I would have to go back and do a search to see if I can find exactly what it was they said about this.

It sounds plausible to me. But then maybe the manufacturer could have had the coordinates of last use in theory? Although it is possible that with many other equipment the information exchange within the drone and the server would take place the next time the drone is in a range of a WIFI or cellular connection.

All speculation on my part.

I really hope it will help to find out what happened to this couple. Right now all is a mystery.

yes, i agree i think the car not burning is a big clue, either because someone wants it back or because its a local person who is protecting their area, and it was locked after rummaging through it which points to ownership also

Many of those register your gadget things aren't compulsory.

I can only think of one thing I owned that I did register and that was because there was a cashback on the product.

Also I often don't pay the extra to take out a warrenty.

Or a view of their campsite.

A view of the vehicle would be good.

My experience with expensive tech devices, the serial number is often recorded on the box and possibly on the included warranty. As well, the vendor usually records the serial number on the bill of sale, probably for the sake of inventory control, they are so appealing for theft and resale by, for eg, employees.

I was surprised that the Police released the info that the drone has been found. I thought they would sit on this info until it had been examined. Perhaps they have some people in their sites and want to see what chit chat this find creates?
