My first thought was drugs...that's some serious cash being splashed and childcare workers certainly don't make enough to afford those things.Friends are vehemently denying any drug involvement though???
Strange...

re the stolen goods

a journo asked that in the press conference, and the reply was investigating all avenues
https://livestream.com/queenslandpolice/events/6834543

That is some serious stuff posted on that video..

Someone really wanted his car...

Maybe they .....whoever had such a big ego...they decided to have another go....things got out of hand ...and they had to dump the car...a second time.

There's clearly a lot more going on in this young mans life than police have revealed,a low income earning child care worker does not afford to drive a car like that let alone own the rest of the items mentioned. I think its safe to say he might of had a little job on the side unless it's family money?
Many young people who grow up with parents who have money, end up having their parents continue to support them or supplement their income so they can keep up with the lifestyle. Many of my childhood friends are this way.

I've seen this many times too.

Wonder why police have gone straight to foul play? Not suicide or accident. Strange indeed. Moo

He said police were continuing to look into whether Mr Thompson's disappearance was linked to an incident in September, where he was assaulted by masked men during a home invasion and had his vehicle stolen.

Mr Thompson, an unemployed childcare worker, had recently moved to his apartment in Agnes St, Albion after the robbery.

On Facebook, he detailed the other items that were stolen, including luxury brand watches, bags, wallets and shoes.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-03-...m-thompson-probably-killed-police-say/8349310

IMO a quick look at finances -----unemployed and just having moved into the apartment in Albion. These apartments are renting for at least $500 per week. The lovely Mustang would have been approx $73,000. The trip to Europe in 2016 and subsequent robbery of luxury brand items....seems like someone was envious of ST lifestyle.

When I look at the pics of his stolen items on his FB page, he is definitely very cashed up. Multiple expensive watches, plus other costly items. He had also booked a future tour through Greece and Spain for himself and a friend, and said he may pay for the friend's fare as a birthday gift.

Lots of money that someone else wants? Is the money 'owed' or do they just want it? Or is this retribution?

Masked men in the home invasion - makes me think of professionals/semi-professionals/previous crims being involved. As opposed to some junkies looking for a quick buck to fund their addictions. Was he threatened with something worse in the home invasion?

But Sam bravely posted those pics (sometimes it is not good to flaunt your wealth in a public post) and reported to police, so I am confused if this was about payment of a drug debt. Plus his bank accounts have reportedly not been accessed.

Did he squeal on some illegal activity perhaps? Is a court case coming up at which he will be a witness? Is that why police went straight to 'foul play'? Is he young and naive enough to think that persons facing jail time may not take some action to stop that?
Or maybe that is why he went overseas, and is an unemployed childcare worker, and moved to a different house/apartment fairly recently ... to lay low and be unattainable for a while?

The release of information to the public has been very quick and the Police appear to have a fair amount of background information. Missing Persons cases do not normally progress "publically" this quickly.

Is it just me .... in the video

Did one of those two have some feminine quality about them .... I'm not sure what I'm picking up .... but I think the smaller one might be a woman??

maybe ... not 100% sure.

I thought that too, immediately.

I did too, maybe the way they place their hand on the stair handrail and newel, kind of feminine?

Good questions, South Aussie. Something's definitely up......

And like people have already said, it is SO unusual that LE would publicly state they suspect it to be a murder case so quickly.

I actually saw a car exactly like that driving through my nearest town last week (I live in Northern NSW) - but I can't remember the exact day or time!!

It was between Tues and Thurs as I was in town on those days......I remember noticing the car (of course) since it's so shiny and flashy. I actually thought I saw two people in the front since I had a quick look to see who would be driving a car like that.

If it WAS his car though, that was further south than where it was found at Wooyung.

(Loads of people would have noticed it - it really stood out on the road. So I'm sure lots of people with clearer times/dates would have contacted CrimeStoppers)

That person didn't look to be wearing gloves? So, fingerprints? Also, perhaps it wasn't really so professional?

And the way the pants cling. And the height stated; 160cm is rather short for a man.

  • #36
I think that was a man that wasn't wearing gloves by his posture and the way he walked. IMO if you were dealing or involved in drugs and were robbed, would you report to police and draw more attention to yourself? To me it screams that he was involved in things he shouldn't have been but then again he could have money from an inheritance or family money.

This case is interesting... If you watch the footage of Sam in his foyer waiting for the lift he almost looks to be hiding with his hat and sunnies, not wanting to be recognised. Did anyone else notice this?

I wonder if this is how he regularly leaves his apartment?

  • #38
I also thought it was odd at how long he took to leave the foyer and how he kept fiddling with his hat and glasses. I am sure I read somewhere that he left his wallet and phone at home which I find really odd.

I'd give Crimestoppers a call anyway and let them know. Maybe other people are in the same situation as you and don't remember. Tell them where it was and they could pull council cameras etc..

Okay - good point re council cameras. I didn't want to bother them with vague stuff but you're right. I'll call :seeya:
