I can't see past the paywall could you give us a quick rundown of the current article?
I found a couple notices from 1989 and 1990 issues of Melbourne's paper The Age respectively announcing the murders then seeking any information on them with the added information that Doris was deaf, had recently reported being harassed on the street and that both victims were known to be dog track racing enthusiasts which seemed like something someone might follow up...
But
then after a little more searching I found an incredibly salacious article about Doris on page 4 of the December 3, 1991 issue. I apologize for the language and further feel there might be a need to explicitly issue a
trigger warning that this is not at all the kind of reporting we have become accustomed to thirty years later
The murder of a 71-yearoM woman who became a promiscous alcoholic after her husband's death has not been solved
Mr Swan wore only a Singlet and Mrs McCartney only stockings. Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Newman told the court that there had been no signs of forced, entry and that Mrs McCartney had been known to have sex dressed only in stockings.
The bodies were found byMr Gerald Robbins, a retarded man who had been one of Mrs McCartney's lovers.
The court was told that ' when ' her husband died in 1979 Mrs McCartney, who was almost completely deaf, began to drink and have sex with many men. She ' kept her bedroom window open ' so visitors could get in at night including Mr Robbins and Mr George Flavel.
Mr Flavel had often taken cricketers to the house for sex.
Mr Flavel had tried to persuade Doris to sell her assets and invest them through him
Two cricketers that Mr Flavel ' took to the house for sex with Mrs .McCartney gave, evidence. Glen. Nash, 27, and Randolph Jansz, 36 said their Initial visits had been at Mr Flavors Instigation.
Mr. Flavel referred to Mrs ' McCartney as the "Moorabbli Mauler" and told the men she would have sex with anyone, Mr , Nash said. Some of the men had watched while Mrs McCartney was having sex with the others.
Council workers and students from the Sandringham Technical College bad also bad sex : with Mrs- McCartney, Mr Nash said. "She was just a nymphomaniac with a hearing problem," he said.
Flavel admitted that he had a quick temper and that his wife 'had taken out a restraining order against him. but denied he had anything to do with the couple's murder.
This article was shocking even to me and I'm pretty hardened. All of this information came from interviews with Doris's children though and I think it could be very useful to anyone pursuing the incredibly high reward. Again, I have to wonder if the article behind the paywall gives any information on why such a huge reward and why now. That was what lead me to dig into this case. I was not expecting to discover the details that I did.
