I've been following this forum as new posts appear and wonder a few things myself.
-If he was on drugs, how was he so thoughtful and crafty to be able to kill Sophie out of sight of CCTV? Surely this involved some prior planning and thought that one would lose touch of if he was as drugged as some are making him out to be. Where is the actual evidence he was on drugs, does anyone actually know?

<modsnip>

-Poor Sophie, may she rest in peace

Hi Eva100 & welcome!

Re the drugs...

April 07, 2014

THE man wanted by police for questioning over the murder of French student Sophie Collombet consumed a cocktail of drugs and alcohol on the day she was killed, witnesses claim.

It can be revealed witnesses told police Benjamin James Milward, 25, consumed alcohol and drugs in the hours before he was captured on CCTV footage in South Brisbane.

Detectives are investigating the claims and believe he had used the drug ice.

A crowd of about 1000 people gathered at Kurilpa Park on Thursday night for a public vigil in honour of Sophie Collombet.

A group of pipers led a march from King George Square to the South Brisbane park, where the 21-year-old French student was killed on March 27.

People gathered to sign a condolence book for Ms Collombet. The book was placed on a table draped in the French flag, with two pictures of Sophie alongside.

The public vigil was jointly organised by students from Brisbane’s three major universities - Griffith, UQ and QUT.

Police Minister Jack Dempsey, Detective Inspector Rod Kemp and Lord Mayor Graham Quirk joined the crowd.

I did wonder if the jacket was used to strangle her when it wasn't mentioned but shown on the video. Now we know he used it to cover her body. Maybe as he came out of his stupor he was revolted by what he had done? I doubt that though...his actions show he was aware of what he was doing and didn't care. So utterly brutal and disgusting...my heart breaks for Sophie's family.

Memorial walk shines a light on violence against women in wake of Sophie Collombet’s murder
Video&Article: http://www.news.com.au/national/que.../story-fnii5v6w-1226879319272?from=public_rss

A letter penned by Sophie's mother Corrine Collombet was read out by friend Roselyne Trott and translated from French, spoke of their adventurous daughter who loved to travel the world

"Oh little one, you feared nothing and in your enormous wisdom, distress could not touch you," she said.

Mrs Collomet said the day her daughter was born was "greeted by fireworks" on the day of a village fair.

"Since that day we have been proud of you and of your radiance for you have achieved all that you ever wished for ahead of your time."

It is not unknown for homeless people to sleep under their jacket and newspaper. In my opinion he was trying to normalise the scene.

Thank YOU, possumheart!!!:loveyou:

That makes complete sense!! I just couldn't understand it in the context of the crime - didn't feel like he was remorseful to me and covering her up out of sudden regret/respect.....

I think you're right. He was trying to make her 'blend in'!! Uggh!!!

Again, that suggests planning and rational thought in regard to consequences. He was not psychotic at the time, IMO.

possumheart ... I think you got it in one! That makes a whole lot of sense!

Normalise the situation, maybe no-one would look under the newspapers & jacket for a while ... he could get far, far away by then (and sign up with a different job agency and continue to collect the dole  )

A statement from the Collombet family in France was read by Sophie’s friend Roselyne Trott at the candlelight vigil.

The family said their daughter's distinctive "Collombet blue eyes" made her instantly recognisable to the people of her home village.

"Your life was all kindness, overflowing energy and cheerfulness, and with a simple smile ever present on your face you always managed to bring happiness. You knew how to make the most of each beautiful moment that made up your life," the tribute read.

"But this life has already come to an end.

"In every corner of the sky, in every raindrop, in every lake, ocean, stream and river, we will recall the blue of your eyes. And so, we will always be with you and we will never forget you."

I’m new here. I’ve read the forums over the years but finally decided to join because of this case.
I work around the corner from where this happened. I walk through that park everyday and often have lunch at the rotunda. I walked through Kurilpa park at 5pm on the day she murdered. As a female the same age as Sophie it’s pretty shocking. The afternoon I walked through Kurilpa park, it was eerie, it had been raining all day and nobody was around except for a drunk man under the William Jolly bridge on Montage Rd (I’m thinking now this may have been the man who was drinking with BM!). I actually didn’t cross the road and walked for an extra block to avoid this man because he gave me a bad feeling. Funny enough though, as alone as I was, a cop car did drive through the park on their usual patrol (they patrol the park very frequently – probably every hour.)The next morning I heard that they found a body in the park. I had to walk over Kurilpa bridge that morning and witnessed the crime scene. I thought the murder must have taken place under the Kurilpa bridge because that’s where the police were focusing and had cornered off. The rotunda where Sophie was found is probably 100 – 150 metres away from that down the bike path. The route Sophie would have taken that night along the river is well lit and relatively safe at night. The heavy rain that day however must have kept people off that track. I’m guessing BM has grabbed her before she got to Kurilpa bridge and has taken her down to the rotunda. The rotunda is in between two paths and kind of at the bottom of a little hill. It would be easy to hide in there at night. The community around here are genuinely shocked and saddened by this. I hope that brings some comfort to Sophie’s family. Excuse typos im on my phone!
