What the Martin Place Lindt cafe siege investigation will look at

A detailed psychological profile of Monis will be worked up by psychiatrist Dr Jonathan Phillips using Monis' medical records and observations from another experienced forensic psychiatrist, Dr Michael Diamond, who was on the scene at Martin Place and assisted police during the siege.

We’re for Sydney | Daily Telegraph

He believed the two women, who were among those Monis used to speak to negotiators, had started to develop signs of so-called Stockholm syndrome.

“Their position was one of excessive and gratuitous alliance with the hostage taker … they certainly weren’t helping,” the psychiatrist said.

The same psychiatrist had earlier told the inquiry he didn’t listen to escaped hostage Paolo Vassalo’s claims Monis was “not walking out” because he was “babbling”.

“I wouldn’t take his threat assessment seriously,” he said.

Mr Johnson’s family’s lawyer Dr Peggy Dwyer yesterday put it to the psychiatrist that Ms Mikhael and Ms Win Pe were becoming more upset in their calls on behalf of Monis, who had demanded an Islamic State flag.

“Increasingly dramatic,” the psychiatrist said. He said a listening device hidden in the cafe picked up conversations showing things were “not as dramatic as they made out”.

Apparently the 7:30 Report on ABC tonight features something to do with the case.

There is also a woman by the name of Hayley doing the FB rounds claiming to be a former cell mate of Keli's and an apparent regular visitor of hers.

I'm sorry but I find it very hard to take any view that Dr D gives as credible IMO..........I listened to his evidence at the inquest & was by for the worst witness on the stand, very argumentative ( Mr Barnes had to pull him into to line many times ) the poor hostages were so upset after hearing him :(

How the mighty have fallen.

The families of Tori & Katrina were determined he'd never work with NSW police again.............

Everyone is entitled to their opinion based on their interpretation of the evidence that has been publicly released so far. Robust debate is healthy and I understand perfectly the scepticism in this case too.

I do think a lot of people will change their minds in time when more information is released.

Believe it or not, CKTC, I hope Keli is innocent and Tegan is found safe and loved and well.

That’s a real shame. I had occasion to talk with him earlier in his career (about 2 decades ago), when he was doing a study on the link between cruelty to animals and domestic violence for NSWPOL. He was very well-mannered and patient, even though he couldn’t give me access to the research.

That was another highly emotive trial.

I think I have to say, don't trust the shrinks on life and death matters.

It's called, hope for the best, prepare for the worst. The golden rule to deal with uncertainties:)

Lots of reasons really. Lots of speculation and theories. I don't think it 'fits'.

BUT

For me right now, the strongest reason is, and it equates with what BOHII is saying, and I believe I can objectively prove this in time, the police searches were not enough, yes they were extensive but they were not foolproof.

No real surprises there in the 7:30 Report!

This is giving me a headache.

Had they completed looking for the 163 kids or not? Isn't this more important than arguing over legal technicalities?
The searches were allegedly completed. I get the feeling this whole thing is just about getting her a new trial than it actually is about what happened to Tegan or even locating Tegan.

I think they had:

At the time Mr Tedeschi believed that "about 100 children had not been accounted for".

Three days after the phone call, an email was sent from the ODPP to police. It identified approximately 163 children still had not been accounted for.

Mr Tedeschi acknowledged additional searches were taking place, but said the defence were given time to analyse the material

"When the additional searches had been completed, the trial was adjourned by the judge for a week so that the defence would have proper opportunity to analyse the additional material that had been served," Mr Tedeschi said in a statement.’

Surprised me that they had two former BD&M employees giving their opinions on a criminal prosecution and conviction.
Yes, that surprised me too but was one a police officer assigned to BD&M? Surely the Assistant Registrar can't take the comments that far but is qualified to say the searches were not complete or foolproof.

I don't think this is about raising doubt about the conviction but ABC are just making it seem that way right now. I can see where this is heading. ABC are setting a scene and buying time to put the rest of the pegs in line.

I’m not sure. Was she an acting police officer or a former one?

I suppose a former(?) AR can make comment. I’m not sure if there is a confidentiality agreement they sign as part of their employment contract. Nevertheless, nothing is foolproof. Also, weren’t the searches completed during the trial in response to Justice Whealy’s ‘directive’?

I’m not sure I agree with your last paragraph. Unless Caro aspires to a career as a professional magician a la ‘Watch me pull this rabbit out of a hat!’
