Great article summarising the Gangland Wars - very well written IMO. What a bloody, messy time in Australian history that was.

WHEN Jason Moran jammed a pistol into the front of his pants on the morning of June 21, 2003, he knew he was a hunted man.

More accustomed to imposing fear on others, Moran had already spent months under threat by the time he made the short drive from home in Moonee Ponds to Cross Keys Reserve in North Essendon for an AusKick footy clinic.

His brother Mark had years earlier been murdered by the same brutal rival – Carl Williams - whose power and willingness to use it was now out of control.....

AS A tottering gangland widow with a glower for her enemies and a royal wave for others - that's how most will probably remember Judith Mary-Anne Moran.

Ask police officers and Judy Moran is nothing more than a self-glorified gangster's moll who spawned two nasty crooks and orchestrated the murder of her brother-in-law, Des "Tuppence'' Moran.

Bad blood between the Moran boys and Williams would lead to Melbourne's unprecedented gangland war; a war that would see the Williams crew shoot down most of the Moran clan and their allies in very public fashion.
