It makes sense why CMs consistently kicks customers out.

It may have to do with trying to curb intoxication, but I’d say it has much more to do with $$$... letting people in by collecting a cover charge, and moving them out again as quickly as possible. Earning money for nothing.

I imagine a lot more people get kicked out whenever there’s a queue outside ($$$) as was the case when Theo was there.

I’ve read several CM reviews claiming alcohol was ‘watered down’, another money saving tactic.

And they constantly give backpackers vouchers for free meals and drinks that never end up being free.

What I’m trying to say is, the place seems like it wants backpacker dollars for as little as possible in return.

No wonder the place doesn’t allow local people. It seems like they are swindling a bit and they obviously have *some* ethics... like not swindling the locals, lol. So I don’t buy the whole, “Theo disappeared because a local got jealous he was let into CMs”.

I find it odd that Theo pretty much immediately started playing a drinking game and partially sculling when he got inside, despite the rule that everyone knows you’re not allowed to drink fast in there.

A couple of reviews mention scenarios where a customer was flirting with a girl but got kicked out because the security guard or his friend was into the girl. I believe it, but I think it was misunderstood...

So I’m wondering if this too is a tactic. Using girls to get guys to drink too quickly so they then have reason to kick them out? That girl dancing with Theo was actually pointing him out as next to be thrown out? Something along those lines.

I maybe overthinking it and I don’t really know or think it has anything to do with Tennyson St, just business choices.

However, I too am VERY curious at what security guard whispered to Theo as he let him out onto the street.

The reality is, CMs would have footage of everyone that walked out along Kingsley St before and after Theo.

There shouldn’t be *that* many as Kingsley St is in the opposite direction of backpacker venues. So those that did walk that way, have a high chance of being those at the beach gathering or Tennyson St or potentially meeting up with Theo.

It would then be smart to see if inside CMs, Theo talked with any of the people that ended up walking up Kingsley St.

The Lighthouse podcast: net sleuths on a photo trail for Theo Hayez clues

I am so glad that they have dropped this in this week's podcast.

So, so far there have been photos found photos of a group on the beach around a campfire, a group of 3 images in which several names are tagged and can be identified.

There is no Theo in these photos however they are dates 31 May at Tallow Beach and taken in the dark.

Further images have also been found of others on the beach that morning at sunrise and sunset and throughout the day.

I am hoping that those who were there can at least clarify if they went around cosy corner or along any tracks, were there any cars in car park etc to at least assist in further clarification if Theo was still on the beach at that time (asleep) or any clothes or belongings may have been sitting by the water etc.

Online sleuths have joined the search for missing tourist Theo Hayez, gathering social media photographs of Byron Bay from around the time the backpacker disappeared in the town.

A series of Instagram images — discovered after the launch of The Australian’s investigative podcast series, The Lighthouse — shows travellers around a campfire at Byron’s Tallow Beach.

Oppo is just Android. There's Power Savings Mode.
You might know by the phone activity when services are shut off but with the phone call connection remaining active.

Yeah, IMO he put it on number 2 setting for location services to stop the power drain. This stops communicating with satellite and goes to Telco. Only thing makes sense to me, only other feature is the quiet time mode however this still allows telco and gps and only silences the phone.

So Theo dancing on a table, I know in many clubs that you get chucked out for this.

Could this be why the bouncer said he was intoxicated? and asked him to leave?

Why they aren’t publicising the faces and details of the unidentified three girls in the bar is baffling. Blanketing social media would locate them soon enough.

Why the family is doing the ongoing quality work is also not good enough.

There needs to be more transparency and accountability by the bar and the police.

I agree Rocket, the community and family have uncovered far more than police.

I guess at the end the day to them he is another missing person and unless is no evidence of crime committed it is not priority to them.

I am so glad that the community and family has continued as so much valuable details have been uncovered.

Or up Jonson and down Marvel. There’s a few ways to get there easily.
There’s potential for a lot of public help here if footage was released.

The bar wasn’t even that busy apparently. Theo sculled a beer as part of a drinking game with two girls and Antoine. He danced on a table while another girl danced “with” him on a bench. It’s apparently normal and not an issue, keeping in mind the tables are on the dance floor. This is on film. Why not release it to reveal the others identities do that they can share their conversations and info?
Theo just got asked to leave. From the family’s account he was sculling and dancing. It probably would catch the attention of an establishment that regularly evicts those walking the line. The bouncer probably just told him to move on, as they do.
We need the footage of all exiting the place, especially down Kingsley, but not exclusively that way. We need the three girls identified if they haven’t been already, and Lisa implied they haven’t.

Not uncommon yes however most clubs have rules about tabletop dancing.

It is simply not allowed in most that I know of.

So my thoughts are that maybe someone who deems getting on a table to dance that security may think are intoxicated?

I wonder if there are any rules for CM for table dancing. I took snapshot of there door when was there but cant find it now

I have gone through photos and tagged people in Cheeky Monkey's, though mostly back packers I did find some locals among them and in fairly recent pictures so they do let locals in there, perhaps just not some. Another thought too Theo may have wanted to avoid Johnson St. as is known for brawls, drunk people etc. Maybe he felt safer taking another route. Him mapping Wake Up on exiting tells me he had intentions of going home. Perhaps he thought it would be safer to take the back streets get to the beach and walk to Wake Up that way. Either that or knew someone who had a car on Tennyson who he may have intended asking for a ride, or he met someone while heading the back route who took him there to Tennyson. There are quite a few reports about car wind screens being damaged in this area, Tennyson, YAC area and nearby. All the windscreens have consistent damage one big hole as if done by a club. Maybe related maybe not but not a nice person/people in this area. The club that was handed to police found at Clarke's beach campsite is easily identifiable. Many would have seen it and no doubt it's owner would have showed it off to other's. Whether the blood on it is real or not is a question too, may be fake to make it's owner seem more dangerous? Not to be mucked with? Looks like the work of a young person, the writing and symbol on it is for other's to see. It should not be difficult to find it's ex owner and get some answers. Rule it in or rule it out. If police don't find the ex owner I hope the public can.

Just saying, there’s also a golf club range called the Judge, and a revolver. There’s also the US base baller Aaron Judge and his ‘judge bat’.

Theo was also dancing on the table which isn’t uncommon there either. The girl dancing with him needs to be identified as it’d be ludicrous to minimise her contact without closer examination. Of course dancing with others is typical behaviour, however we’re looking for info on how and why he deviated off the expected path that night and everyone around him would hold info. There’s visuals of her, and the other two girls that need to be put out in public to enable identification and interviews. If the police haven’t spoken with them, they need to.
Theo’s character profile doesn’t fit with doing coke in the loo, or ice on the beach. Someone had simply told him about a party of sorts at the end of Tennyson, or they’ve taken him there. I veer towards the latter. I think he heard about Tennyson from someone and saw it’s position when googling the directions home. He’s gone there because someone he knows (from Wake Up or CMs) has told him about it and was there too.
Then they’ve run to the beach to continue having fun. There’s probably a girl involved as he’s felt safe and willing, at least at the beginning of the trek.
His godfather said he probably watched that 90 seconds of Burger Quiz as it was the final episode and he may have wanted to check up on what was happening and how it was ending. If so, it would seem to be something personal you’d do alone - whilst waiting perhaps. Who knows? Someone does know but so far they aren’t feeling motivated to tell.
Get photos of all non-identified and interviewed people of interest out into the public. Get a decent reward for info out, and let’s hope the police start releasing some support and findings before they find they have a homocide on their hands and critical time has been lost.

According to podcast no. 3. Tables were on the dancefloor to be danced on. Not a very good idea. I would suggest perhaps TH, as mentioned in the podcast may have looked wonky dancing on a table. Imagine the lawsuit that would follow if someone fell.
The reason why security remove people when they come out of the toilet is that it is at a point when the person is alone. No interference from other punters. The markings/ stains on TH's pants would suggest that at some point he spilled a drink on them or fell. Both are signs of intox and reason for removal. There is obviously some time where footage doesn't capture TH, as no one knows how the markings on his cloaths originated.
In any investigation, the people surrounding TH at the time are persons of interest, but I think a plot to get TH out of CM and into a location is a little far fetched. I believe now believe this was a crime of opportunity, or with an unspecified target.
CM's is a backpacker's pub. The bouncers GF wouldn't be in there. The Bouncers are registered and would really have no interest in drunk backpackers. I understand there are variables to each bouncer. But generally, after working alongside many, drunk people aren't really of interest. Actually, anyone will tell you in hospo that mostly, the public are not of interest. I've worked in Pubs in Melbourne And Townsville, and the people that drink in places like this are annoying.
I don't believe the bouncer pointed him in a direction, he was just trying to get TH to stop interacting with the other punters coming in.
I don't think this is a conspiracy by people working in the town, with other townspeople in on it. Think about it. People do get into fights, but something like this has never been reported. It is true a town that depends on tourism would try to keep the unsavory side quiet, but there are some people in BB that would not view this as moralistic behaviour. It would be hard to keep something like this quite.
The focus really should be on that walk, the 7 minutes he wasn't walking in the location known for transients and AOD (alcohol and other drugs).

This is a good point. Perhaps TH did take an alt route to avoid the nightlife on the main strip.

Dark side of Australia’s celebrity paradise

Paints a lovely image of one of our favorite tourist spots hey.
I really find this portrayal of the homeless community gross.

Mental health issues don't always amount to violence. Drugs and mental health issues, well that's another story.
Look to the territorial young local males, who don't like internationals taking their waves and partying in their town.
I find it hard to believe that a group of people or a person from overseas would act violently and take the life of another backpacker.
I find it also hard to believe that the community that has had the worst luck in life would single out a backpacker and subject them to such violence unless drugs were involved. All they'd have to do to get someone to leave them alone would be to tell them to 🤬🤬🤬🤬 off. The coastal scene has issues with territorial surfers and locals. I'm putting my money there. But I could be so wrong, as I probably have been before on this topic many times. As I understand it the issues surrounding drugs and interpersonal violence has been constantly escalating.

There are so many variables in this scenario, that only when evidence is found, or a witness is when the truth will be revealed.

Yeah, Im struggling with locals being involved, but could be soo wrong too.

From what I recall in podcast 3, the end of Tennyson was known as a place for people to park up overnight as well? People passing through town? Or people that live out of their cars? Or a bit of column A and Column B?

Is this correct then that not one person has come forward or been identified as someone either in Cheeky's that night? Outside Cheeky's? At the YAC area? Or at Tallow's beach?

Wow.

Surely it is possible to get data from Google or Telstra showing phone pings or tracking info from phones in key areas... for example:

1) any phone on the Milne track or Tallows or Cosy Corner around the time Theo's phone was being registered there

2) or phones at the YAC/ Tennyson area around the time he was there.

That's not going to be that many phones at that time of night.

And if you think about it, on the Podcast they say the accuracy can be within 3 metres, and the time stamp is exact, so this means an investigator could prioritise phones that are closest to Theos, and then find , contact and question the owners in order of 'best match' priority.

The data is there. What if someone, or people, with compassion could give investigators access to it?
