Hi I’m new to forum but followed case closely and lived in Byron for years. Given the likelyhood of low battery and the gps being disabled later on, why would Théo waste precious battery watching burger quiz. It’s bothering me tbh.

It bothers me, too. That is one of the reasons why I question whether Theo was using his phone at that point, or if it was in the hands of somebody else.

I haven't yet re-listened to the 3rd podcast to try to establish if Theo sent the messages to his overseas friends before the YouTube vid was opened, or exactly when the You Tube vid was opened. I know that I initially got the impression that the messages happened before the video ... but I am not positive about that.

It was said that only a couple of minutes of the YouTube video was watched though.

SA even if it was only a couple minutes, Theo still needed to orient himself back from CC to Wake Up hostel using what battery was left. Seems strange to access YouTube in this instance. I’m doubtful the phone was with him at CC. I would love a non local to try run through the Milne track to CC in the dark and maintain the running pace using only the light of a phone. I doubt it’s possible unless you knew that trek and had run it before. Even if Théo was following someone then why would they run? It doesn’t add up.

Good point.

Could a phone ping register if buried under sand?

That's a good question I guess would depend how deep in the sand it was burried

The IMEI would be recorded if someone takes the trouble to look up the number and have it recorded by police. And police must also take some trouble recording. I wonder whether it has been recorded .

Wouldn't cadaver dogs have detected a body when they were brought in?

I wonder if anywhere in the sand / dunes or on the beach was disturbed or any sand piles were evident that next morning? I wonder if anyone who was on the beach that morning went to police to confirm they had been on the beach and had or had not seen anything or noticed absolutely nothing out the ordinary.

Thing is kids make sand castles and dig holes and throw sand everywhere as do dogs into piles so if one was evident would anyone think anything of it?

I would love to know if any of these Instagrammers who were there that morning and day actually contacted police to advise they were there and confirm anything that appeared disturbed or there was no sign of disturbance.

My thought is, respectfully, that I would love to see a link that establishes this. :)

It was the police who established the DNA link of the found bones, not the media, as per the direct quote I posted from Supt Fehon.

When we quote things as fact here on WS, we need to be able to back them up with a relevant and allowable link. It is part of the TOS. Otherwise, rumours can take hold and grow legs.

The Rules
Apply to the police about the exact data. There are many inaccurate reports. The DNA data yes established a link but not 100% irrefutable proof that those bones belonged to Erwin. You can apply for info through the police. I think best to concentrate on Theo. Just was adding comments to something someone else had potentially picked up.

Something happened inside CM. Maybe involving the guy he was dancing with on the table while a girl was trying to get his attention dancing provocatively on the bench next to the table? This was all on the podcasts. Thoughts anyone?

Cousin Lisa in the 3rd podcast didn’t say the girl was dancing provocatively. She said “the girl was trying to dance with him (Theo)” and told the police they should find her as “she’s definitely trying something with him (Theo)”.

No. Not through dense fine sand. Also being reflective it does not retain heat like soil, so actually like a fridge down deep enough

Yes that's true. From the podcast, seems that the girl was trying to get Theo's attention so maybe was interpreted this way? I had the impression that Lisa really wanted to find the girls identity. But I do not see why if he was busy talking to the other guy on the table as they were "dancing" and Theo seemingly was ignoring that girl. So why is the girl so important? Just the way I interpreted this scenario?

I realise that you are a new poster, but that is not how it works on WS.
Everyone is more than entitled to express their opinion, but if things are stated as fact we must have acceptable links to back it up.

Not a problem if it is expressed as an opinion.

The thing is, with it taking days for Theo to be reported missing, many backpackers may have simply moved on, or left the country.
They may not have even realised that anything was amiss from that night. Yes, Theo's disappearance made lots of news ... but if people moved on and worked at cattle stations or sheep shearing, or another remote community tourist job, they might not have even seen the news.

Again as I said trying to think outside the box. I am even more inclined now to think there is a link between CM and what happened to Theo Hayez. CM even recent history is not impressive, though good for their specific tourism.

No too much time had passed by then, several months, and they are not good sniffing through deep sand especially after all of that time (assuming that they were taken to sniff at CC. If not, then the trail would have been dead a long time prior).

Not quite.

Did you see the one in the news that sniffs out live Koalas! Pretty impressive and crucial after the fires. Great story

Ok thanks for that. What I am saying is that you can apply for info from the police. You have to state why, your relationship to the case and several other criteria. While I do not meet all the criteria, others I know do so I was able to gather some information. I did this because there were so many conflicting media reports even worse than with Theo Hayez. You can obtain extra info from police to varying extent based on your relationship to the case, media or not, actually interest in a case and why etc. There are many categories. Wasn't trying to cause a problem. Trying to find Theo based on available facts. There were media reports about the Shelley Beach backpackers in some media as I recall back then which support what posted here (forgot his name). I would have to spend a lot of time to go back to those reports. So either disregard this or take it with the good intentions it was intended for. It is just another avenue to leave a door open. My personal opinion is that they should dig up CC and anything else is just speculation to leave the door open - including my own speculations. The only thing I would add is that IF that is where Theo is found, and I do believe he will be found, is that CM needs serious analysis particularly the CCTV inside CM. By experts who are trained in picking up activity of a strange nature in such places.

Anyone in contact with Theo during his time in Byron, most particularly the night of 31 May is of interest. They possess information, and ideally they need to be identified and interviewed. That girl was in close physical proximity and may have overheard his conversation. She may have noticed things that help to resolve the case. She also may be a POI because of other motivations too. It appears that she hasn’t to date been id’d or interviewed. I agree with Lisa, she needs to be found.

Good point.
All of his messages that night which were reported on the podcast were neutral. He disabled Google map track to save battery (check with Oppo or family/ the LFTH FB page) as soon as he arrived at CC at 12.05am. That was the battery saver. But it gave him a lot more battery life for everything else except Google tracking. He did actually switch to save mode as soon as he arrived at CC (which disabled Google track) - was talked about in one of the podcasts. Don't remember which one. Maybe someone can check? I also called Oppo tech and they confirmed many things including that this is an option, which I believe someone else in these threads also confirmed as they also contacted Oppo.

I agree and so does the guy he was dancing with on the table above that girl on the bench need to be identified. Lisa I believe asked police for their ID and footage and was refused? I could be wrong. BUT if she asked and was refused she should contact a lawyer to secure all of that date and footage. They record who goes in and out of CM. Drugs change hands. The venue makes money. Do they willingly want attention? Just saying....

It has not been confirmed that Theo disabled google maps to save battery or when he arrived at CC or that he switched modes to save battery. It was reported in the podcast that his location stopped being reported and that his phone modes also changed but they do not know why or what was done on the phone for this to happen.

We as you have have researched the model of phone to look at every possibility as to why the phone did what it did.

IMO my best scenario is he switched to low power mode as well however as some have mentioned previously why would he be watching YouTube when his battery is burning low?
