thats interesting about the google maps and getting directed up Tennyson and through the bush!

I’ve always thought that maybe he saw on his map that way even without being directed. I thought maybe he just wanted to go to the beach, that could still be the case, but perhaps his maps took him that way.

Occam’s razor will tell you to try and keep it simple and make the least assumptions possible. That’s why I don’t believe there was this huge conspiracy going on, as in he had a previously set up or meeting with someone or multiple people to party on.

I just think he went that way home, and ran into trouble. I personally don’t think he ever made it to CC.

IMO something happened in that 7 mins at the end of Tennyson. A decision is made then to give the appearance of Theo going to the cliffs around the lighthouse and going in the water (it has been stated the 15 yr old boy who fell off the cliffs before Theo was still very much in the Byron news at time of Theo’s disappearance). In that 7 mins a split decision was made to go to CC and that’s where a small mistake was made, whomever took Theo’s phone went a way only a local would know, Theo would not have known that route. Instead of going up to Lawson and lighthouse Rd, and down tallows beach road, follows a path from memory in the panic of what has just transpired!

Down at CC, what doesn’t sit well with me is the timeline. From going up the hill into the scrub for 5 mins to coming back down, then the gps goes off. Then there’s what, around 15/20 mins until he goes onto YouTube (speaking of YouTube, can it be found out if Theo searched then played from start or continued a previously played video.?) He only watches for 1.50, why even bother watching for that short amount of time. Then after that there’s nothing until 12.50ish with the what’s Ap message (was there 1 or 2 msges?). From 2-6 the phones in sleep mode and then what? Does it only ping once at 1.40pm the next day? That could be someone who has the phone putting it on charge and the phone automatically switching on by mistake?

One thing about the msgs in French, it’s been discussed it wouldn’t be hard to google translate to reply. I assume the messages to theo were in french as well, so if someone was pretending to be Theo, perhaps that’s why the messages back were pretty generic, and perhaps why the convos didn’t go longer? Cos google translate might not have been that great (like a foreigner trying to google translate good old aussie slang)

That’s just my theory with what we have, and it’s only my opinion and could be very very wrong.

I have never been able to reconcile that Theo would have gone into the bush track of the Milne track and fire trail. I’ve been in that spot at night, it’s so dark and ominous and a long way from the lighthouse which you can see. Honestly I wouldn’t have gone in there at night with my best mate, let alone a total stranger.

Yes, I think very similarly to this. Keep It Simple Sam.

Theo's phone could have made its way quickly to Tallows. Someone goofing around, thinking they were a smartar*e, stealing it, sending messages, and looking through his phone.
In the mean time, Theo could have suffered a 'cowards punch' right at the rec grounds. When he tried to get his phone back.

There could be a group of youths holding a very dark secret.

Edit to ad about me not going into that bush at night. Theo was characterised as a well thought out, responsible and conscientious person, when I was that age my parents would have said yeah he’s a top kid, heart of gold but prone to the old ‘irresponsible’ decision! I’ve done some reckless stuff, falling to sleep in a few weird spots, taken some strange paths home..but no way would I have ever gone into the track at night, esp with a stranger, if I was of sound mind, unless being led by a gun!

To my understanding Théo also talked to a friend in Belgium who said Théo was as usual.

I would love to see the transcripts of those messages.

If another 18 year old (or similar) was sending those messages their 'message talk' could be very much the same. imo
From my understanding, they spoke of what bands were coming to Australia and spoke of U2? If a person was sitting flicking through Theo's phone, reading his various messages from everyone, they might have thought it was quite funny (sick humour) ... impersonating Theo, re-telling things they had read in other messages.

it could be pure happenstance that the perp had a good grasp of french?

You really don't need a good grasp of any language, these days. Google translate does an adequate job with any simplistic comments.

I regularly have to translate comments from friends and friends of friends on FB. I can reply very easily using Google translate. (Sometimes there are comments about how good it is that I can reply in their language - and I don't know their language at all.)

The friend at the other end of the line would not have said Théo was OK if the voice was not the same.

This friend came out by calling the family when he heard about Théo missing so he must have been talked to by the Belgian police. I don't know where to find a MSM link to this. Doesn't my info ring a bell ? Am I the only one who heard about this ?

I though they had a brief chat - a message or two? Not a voice call.

Strange that the content of the msg is not known unless hidden from us. The friend must know. The Belgian police too.

I'll think over it. Thanks SouthAussie.

The message - we have heard - is about U2 appearing in Australia, and Theo going to be with his dad who was going to be a roadie with a band over northern summer. IIRC

Just re that video, I think it was Theo’s godfather JP who said that Theo liked a French tv show called “Burger Quiz” and the finale was happening. Theo watched the trailer of the finale (or the start of it or something), just to catch up on how it was going and where the contestants were at. Apparently the family could tell what he was watching, and then they watched it too and concluded it was something Theo would actually do (it made sense) as he was into that show.

Msg to which 'urg' was written back if I remember well.

In case Théo never talked to his friend then it makes things a bit clearer... to me.

I get that.

I guess I was just pondering the details of the YT vid. As in, was it already in Theo’s watch list or even possibly already a loaded video and was it just continued on for a minute fifty or did the person specifically type in and search for this video?

I think that could be important. I watch a lot of documentaries on YT. If someone had my laptop and opened my YT Ap, and then just played a video from my watched list or even continued a doco I had been watching, that’s a whole lot different IMO than if I had specifically searched for a video of something I was known to like. Both times my family would agree it’s something I would watch, however the scenario where you could tell I specifically searched for a video is far more likely to be me than the other scenario of just continuing on or watching from a previously watch vid.

The thing is, he received a link about the show. It is not as if he went and looked for the show. So anyone could have received that link (on Theo's phone).
Then only 1½ minutes was watched of it. IIRC

I’ve always been led to believe there were only msgs sent from Theo’s phone at CC, not any actual phone calls or video chats.

Watching a show called Surf Patrol just now on 7two and there was a rescue of a lad who fell down an ‘old goat track’ (which looked well used) leading down the cliff from the lookout. He was badly hurt and rescued by a rescue chopper.
I thought of Theo, I wonder.
