I’ve been following this case closing, so convinced that Theo met with foul play, but now I’m starting to question if it really was just a terrible accident.

There was a similar case recently where an elderly man went missing trying to walk home from an aged care facility. His body was found six months later, in a place that was previously searched by family but due to thick bush, they missed him.

I think it should be ok to post this. It comes from comments by Jipe Pe (no accents on this keyboard sorry) on the official LFTH Facebook page. I believe Jipe is a close family member and a moderator or admin of the page.
They have been informed that it was an Oppo phone found but a different model.
Very little is known about Theo's movements in the 48 hours prior to his disappearance and they are looking for more info. That surprises me given possible witnesses and Google data.

Same. In Thread One I was convinced that foul play is involved. Now I am not sure of that at all. The more erratic data that is provided, the less sure of foul play I become.

Why this type of thing has not been revealed in the podcast is beyond me.
Maybe some of the family, the PI, and David want to keep the hype up so that Theo stays as a focus for the Byron people and all of the searchers.

My impression is that they are trying to push for more information and further investigation.
I'd like to see another appeal in the media for anyone with information to come forward. That could be anonymously and there may be reports submitted that we don't know of yet.
I hold the belief, even stronger now, that 'somebody knows something'.

Oh, I agree with appealing to the public for more information ... in case something has been missed.

However, not revealing things like the phone wasn't the same model as Theo's phone is not going to help that appeal.

What if Theo's phone is laying unused in someone's house or car but it doesn't spark any recognition from their mum/partner/friend/whoever because everyone thinks that Theo's phone has been found and the police have been misleading them.
Or what if his phone is found laying in the bush, and it doesn't get turned in because everyone thinks that Theo's phone has been found.

AFAIK, the only mention of a phone being found at CC was in the Podcast. There are lots of phones found and maybe the thought was that it wouldn't be brought up.
Maybe now that it has been mentioned press coverage would help.

Yes, it would be good if The Australian said that they are still looking for Theo's phone. A neon purple R17 Oppo that looks like this.

I actually don't think I have ever seen an image of the type of phone in any MSM. Or the model.

MSM should really ease up on paywalling their articles about missing people.

It really doesn't help in spreading the word about public help that may be required to find a missing person.

Yes also read it was purple. It seems there was a picture of his phone somewhere on one of the FB threads.
It was in one of the posters IIRC.

This sign appears along the route Theo took from cheeky monkeys. It’s on Tennyson st just past Carlyle lane and just before Carlyle street.

It says/shows/directs CBD left and lighthouse right, yet Theo’s phone went straight to the dead end and stops at the concrete slab behind the cricket nets (the gps goes back and forth at the slab, then changes course and heads to Milne st/Milne track)

Just another little indicator how strange his direction was even to get to end of Tennyson.

I street viewed the entire gps route of Theo’s phone. Really strange trying to imagine following that at 11pm at night!

I still think it's foul play and here are the main reasons I speculate:

- Theo’s encounter on the concrete slab, behind a shipping container on the dark end of an unlit oval. If Theo was somewhere else on the oval I’d be open to possibilities, but that exact spot is the local youth gang hangout. Friday night is typically peak hour for this type of hangout, so I find it hard to believe they were’t there. If they truly weren’t there, someone much more sinister was. Theo wasn't 'dancing' around the slab alone for 7 minutes yet no one has spoken up about seeing him, why?

- Theo being led by someone familiar and unafraid of the area presumably from the oval and into the bush. Yet no one has owned up to walking with him, why?

- The cap is a red flag either way. If it IS Theo's cap and he did lose it at that location, it means he was not in a position to stop and pick it up and alludes to Theo being under duress. If it’s NOT Theo’s cap or he didn’t lose it in that spot, it means someone is trying to mess with evidence.

- Theo’s phone ping at 1.42 pm is also a red flag either way. GPS location tracking was presumably shut off by low power mode. After that, messages were sent, YouTube was viewed and GM was used. I can’t fathom how the phone still had juice in it 12 hours later. Was it charged along the way? Left to ping to obscure Theo’s real location? Or if it really did still have power, why was GPS turned off? I also find it hard to believe Theo accidentally dropped his phone (his lifeline) after a long day with it in his hand.

I find the whole thing super sketchy.

Completely agreed.

WHO specifically would be experienced enough to jog that beach track in the dark? What’s their profile?

Agreed. My bet is on Theo being fought by a gang on the concrete slab. Probably punched in face, falls backwards and head slams on concrete. Accidental death, as happened to 18 year old Daniel Christie in Kings Cross. One gang member takes his phone on a wild goose chase. The others take his body out of town in a car. Body is NOT in Byron Bay. Cap is planted along track later. Would be so easy to solve this case if this scenario is true. IMO this is a cover up to protect tourism in Byron Bay. #TourismTrumpsTheo

Yes, I could see a coward's punch being involved. And I could see Theo not being anywhere in Byron Bay now.
I don't know how anyone can make those rec ground party people speak up though. The peer pressure and fear might be pretty intense.

I recall a case from many years ago (recently shown on TV) where a girl was raped and killed. Four people there, one rapist, no-one has spoken up to this day even though they have tried to get them to do so. The alleged perp has since died, and one of the witnesses who was 15 years old at the time (and is now an older aged person) still won't speak up.

Say that’s the case. How would you solve it?
I don't think it's got anything to do with the homeless in that area (who don't travel far and might not have mobiles). More likely gang members from out of town who probably all communicate with mobile phones. Then trace those mobiles and see if they lead to the coastal suburbs surrounding Byron where these gangs are known to come from prior to the incident. Then see where they went after that 7 minutes. One went to CC, one or more of the others drove Theo out of town, others split and went home. All IMOO (which has been evolving like others on here)...

The police need some evidence of a crime to do the virtual dragnets don’t they?
