If he was going to commit suicide why was he even bothering looking up on GM his hostel?

Ambivalence and indecision? It doesn't have had to be a quick choice. There is nothing much that makes any sense here. There are so many unaccounted for/unexplained minutes during the night. And, generally, self harm makes little sense, as well.

Yep. Skateboards work best on cement (over grass) so you’d stay on the slabs.

What causes you to move around only on the cement slabs? To stay within its confines, but not stand still?

I have been wondering that myself. Spending a lot of time by himself and with strangers over the months in Australia. Did he have any bad experiences during those months? Was he really enjoying the thought of starting Uni? Things were over between him and his Belgian girlfriend (had she started a new relationship?) Getting kicked out of Cheeky Monkeys while all the others stayed to have a good time. Alcohol being a depressant ........

I don't think he was suicidal. He seems to take life as it comes (did'nt seem to object much when kicked out of CM).

As to his parents' divorce it not new as he already have a step-sister who uses a smartphone.

He had been saying to his friends, parents and brother how much he looked forward to be back home.

As to Uni he could worry about not succeeding the admission exams for civil engineer which are very challenging in Belgium. I've always wonder how one could succeed with being out of school for one year and not training in special preparatory classes as they do here. But then he could have studied another branch one that does'nt require an admission exam.

Theo...or his phone was led to CC on a less visible trek IMO..

There was a quicker and less hazardous path to CC from where Theo was at Tennyson.

Why? To avoid being seen by cctv, traffic, people etc?

IMO someone decietfully led him or his phone away from public viewing...

Does anyone think that it was premeditated and planned by someone else?

I don't think it was planned for Theo specifically.

Although in the beginning I considered the possibility of a perp following Theo after he did farm work, because I had just read this story: Backpacker, 26, 'finds hidden cams & microphone in room for Oz farm job'

I’m still not discounting a pervert (that has nothing to do with slab gang) premeditating the snatching of someone that night. But it doesn’t fit with what we know happens at Tennyson St and the fact Theo was there. Occam’s razor and all.

I think if someone did pretend to be Theo on his phone, that might suggest premeditation.

I don’t know if the slab gang would be able to injure Theo AND get a good plan together, including a very thorough phone decoy and evidence tampering in less than seven minutes. If so, they’re fast on their feet!

This is one of the reasons I tend to think it was Theo on his phone. I feel it’s hard to fake that? Perhaps someone can enlighten me.

At 18, clean cut and friendly he’d feel safest with people he had things in common with, and of a similar age and circumstances. If he went beyond Tennyson St voluntarily, it’d be with peers. I just cannot see him willingly going with a guy like a Tommy or the beach camper dude into the dark unknown. I also can’t see him going anywhere dark and unfamiliar with new acquaintances. Either a familiar face was at Tennyson (they intentionally met up) or he was pressured/forced (if he went to Tallow with strangers).

I wouldn't change settings. I'd look at power use and battery life with the type of use we know about. I'd particularly look at when the prompt is to enable Battery Savings Mode and if that kicks in automatically by default and the % battery when the phone shuts down.
I'd also try and replicate the GPS data.

Could TH met some people at the wake up hostel bbq before going out that night. Those people say weren’t interested in going to CM. So when TH gets kicked out of the club he writes to that person or peoples to see where they are. Could have been communicating with each other in a app that family don’t know he has an account for? Also could have been communicating with this person before leaving CM.

Could be a girl he likes? Could be to score drugs?

They tell him to meet them at tennyson. Could Tennyson have been where he wanted to hang that night but after 7 minutes something happened to make him and friends from wake up change their plans. Like a resident of the street telling them to move on or a member of the YAC or even if they were doing something illegal something as small as some head lights coming down the road could of scared them off.
They all run and someone suggests to go to tallows?
What do Tennyson and CC have in common?

Dark? Known hangouts for youngsters? What else?

In the beginning, there were many suggestions made or sleuthing that Theo may have run off with a girl.

He might have met up with her that night down near the oval, gone to the beach for some private time.

And this still could be an option as we do not know if it was Theo and his data at the beach or someone with Theo at the time.

We dont know if Theo had a dating app on his phone like POF or RSVP, any of those international apps. The only thing actually which im not sure if its been checked is alerts in his emails from an app.

He might have been chatting to anyone for months whilst here on an app who may have even lived in Byron or be visiting at the time for all we know.

Unfortunately, those apps dont come up on the Google timeline, unless from memory you use them on your laptop or a PC where you have to actually log in on google chrome to access them.

When you access the app it doesn't show up.

So yes, he might have been using programs that his family were not aware of as they will not show up anywhere other than his phone itself.

In the past when I have met up with someone off an internet site I never communicated through my phone it was always messaging on the site to be safe.

Yeah, true. One of them at least knew the way in the dark & was familiar with the path.

Self harm is another consideration. We have a lot of far reaching theories here. If we knew more background, maybe this theory wouldn't seem far reaching at all. Theo is in that higher percentage age-category of young males who do silly things - no matter how sensible they are.

Just because we don't want it to be so, doesn't mean that it isn't so and shouldn't remain as a possibility - along with all of the other possibilities - when considering Theo's nonsensical (at the moment) actions on that night.
If we ignore any possibility, we might misinterpret some facts. imo

What was he doing for all those unaccounted for minutes that night? All of those minutes that lay between the few actions that we are presuming happened, due to the google timeline.
