'Foster Care Queensland executive director Bryan Smith on Sunday said last week’s breakthrough in the Tiahleigh case had caused the number of people inquiring about becoming a foster carer to skyrocket.

“And what we have noticed since Wednesday last week is that we have seen a doubling in inquiring on the recruitment line, which is quite extraordinary,” he said.

http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/...w/news-story/a36729884268c8b3b768946d6798da12

“We are currently getting around 30 inquiries a day for foster day.”

Mr Smith said the increase in interest was “absolutely fantastic”.

Mr Smith said only about 20 per cent per cent of the people who inquire about becoming a foster carer ended up in the system

This in no way subdues my anxiety, in fact.,. it increases it.. what kind of people are inquiring about this ?... suddenly?... surely, before they had seen pics of Tia, they would have been interested....but now.... terribly interested.. .

call me cynical , peoples.. ...but...

first question they should be asked, is who's living at home with you now? and who does this young girl have to share a bathroom with?.... how many adult males live in the family home, and you know, it really doesn't matter that they went to Hills, it matters how many of them are in the house...

Trent has been kept in remand now for 4 days.... I dont know how long hair gel lasts, but I would think he is looking and feeling a bit ordinary by now. And he wont be seeing daylight until at least the 10 th October. However it is a chance to have a preview of the rest of his life, and being in the remand section at Arthur Gorrie wouldn't have many up sides to it.. the food, the noise, the smells, the company.. he may have offered to put on a one man dance show, or teach some neat body moves, but, I don't know.. I don't see that as a successful venture.

I don't think his sentence will be more than time served. He'll most likely plead guilty and claim he was 17 when he did what he did, then with a good lawyer and a few excuses, he'll most likely get time served and a 2-5 year good behavior bond. They never send the young ones away for similar crimes to what he did for very long.

oh well. we don't know EXACTLY what he did, as yet.., let's wait till Rick begins to blab a bit, then a clearer picture might emerge...

It doesn't matter, adult or teenagers of any gender, should always be looked at when placing a child with a family. The family needs to screened as a whole. We also have to be very careful that good familes are not exclude, just because they have teenagers etc. Otherwise the already overloaded and broken system will just continue to break down further.

since the imprisonment for incest has a life sentence attached to it, it would be a very dicey judge who would state a few days in prison would cover it.. I some how, in the political climate currently , don't see that happening.

"..Tiahleigh told a classmate she was scared to go home and begged to stay with her family six days before she was allegedly killed by her foster father.

The 12-year-old girl went home with a friend from Marsden State School on Friday October 23 and asked the girl's aunt if she could stay with them as she was worried she would get into 'big trouble' if she returned to her foster home, 7 News reported.
Six days later, police will allege Tiahleigh was murdered by Thorburn, 56, in a bid to protect his son Trent Thorburn, 19, who had been sexually assaulting the young girl during the 10 months she was in the family's care.

The woman Tiahleigh sought refuge from said she contacted the Office of Child Safety in Brown Plains when Tiahleigh insisted she did not want to go home, but was told it was common and to encourage the schoolgirl to return.

'She asked me if she could stay with me and I said I'm sorry I couldn't let you stay with me because I really don't know you for a start,' the aunt of Tiahleigh's classmate told 7 News.

'She did tell me that if she does go home that she was going to get in big trouble and that's why she didn't want to go home,' the unidentified woman added."

Big trouble could mean so many things.... first up, pregnancy was Trent's worry.. there is no source that it was Tia's worry. Her worry, as told to her friend was that Trent kept groping her and didn't leave her alone, she was left sometimes in the house alone with him. .... it is possible that she had a bigger worry than Trent groping her, and that would be Rick. .. maybe that was too horrible to even mention, the ramifications of that would be enormous to Tia.. .

sad, desperate , terrified.. I want Qld family services to be lined up and ...

I am sure that on the 7 news report, the lady was told by Tiah, that she had been in trouble at school and she would be in big trouble at home because of that. It would be interesting to know if she was in fact in trouble, that day at school.

I saw a video of that person speaking (with her face blurred out) and do not recall her saying 'at school'. She said Tia was asking many people if she could stay, if I recall correctly.

and here's Julene, that Friday morning..... just an ordinary foster mother, doing the usual thing.... sending out texts to people ....

''Hi its Tia's foster mum Julene. Tia has run from school again first thing this morning if you hear anything or if anyone has seen her today could you let me know,' the text read, adding in a further message that police had 'no leads' on her whereabouts.

clever..note the use of running from school ... not running from home, ....

I cant believe Thorburn murdered TIa to 'save his son'.. that's absurd .......

Why is it so absurd when this is what the police are alleging according to MSM

I do recall this, Kitsune. I wonder if she was been teased, misunderstood, etc. Sounds as if school friends were aware of certain situations. Tiahleigh certainly had a lot on her plate for a 12 y.o.

It has been mentioned Tiah was recieving pastoral care with School Chaplain Ian Pratt, who also spoke at her memorial service. She was reaching out.

sure, but the better thing would be to hear what the police prosecutor says ...and I believe the police prosecutor will rip holes in that story big enough to drive a horse float thru.... . the police saying that is because that's what Trent has told them..... you don't seriously think the police are telling you their case against the Thorburns in the courier mail, do you?

the night she disappeared, Tiahleigh had wanted to stay at the house of a friend – but the friend’s mother did not allow it.The mother has posted about the regret she feels after she didn’t let the little girl sleepover.
‘I feel sick to my stomach, it’s my daughter’s friend and she wanted to stay at our house on Friday but I said no because she was trying not to go home and was trying to stay with everyone,’ the Queensland woman wrote on Facebook on November 2.
