as for the maximum penalty, I don't know what would suffice for that to be applied, if the death of a child, in one's foster care, because of the sexual depravity of one's teenager provoked the father, one's husband' , into murdering the child to keep the son's depravity a secret so the fostering business could continue, what would?...

and obviously, Julene rightly felt the business should continue on it's merry way.. After Tiah was murdered, Rick and Julene advertised in the newsletter of Trent's old school , displaying themselves as carers of your precious children over the Xmas holidays, why, there were ponies, a big paddock, a swimming pool, two nice teenage boys to play with and wrestle with, some good home cooking by Mum Julene, some manly sporty stuff from Dad Rick.. your kids, for a price , will enable you to have a Xmas free of worry, knowing your babies are safely being looked after.

!!

Her perverting the course of justice, and her perjury were two separate events, .. .... that is, two crimes, whether both of them were about the one crime of another person ( R.Thorburn). .I believe even the QLD justice system will be able to consign both of these separate acts to each of their own penalty.... ... ..... surely
I understand she's pleaded guilty to the two charges so there will be a sentence of some sort for each. That's separate to the issue of concurrency.

Yup. Her perjury etc were part of a course of action that knowingly endangered other kids' lives.

she will get a discount for pleading guilty... I 'd like that discount to start at 7 years, and 14 years...... I don't see why not. The crime was of the most hideous . I don't understand wat you mean by it being separate to the issue of concurrency... the discount will be knocked off both sentences , added to together and deducted from the overall sentence..

which. I hope.. would be at least 21 years , since the provision for it is there in law, and the crime itself demands it. But. again. I don't expect it. I merely want it.

I'm not making myself clear today. I meant that the time to argue that the two charges referred to the same event and hence one or the other should be dropped, in case that was at all applicable, has long passed. You don't plead guilty and then say, hang on, I shouldn't have been charged with that.

But I wasn't arguing that the two charges referred to the same behaviour and therefore maybe she'd only be sentenced for one or the other. I was saying that the fact that they were part of the same set of circumstances, lying about the death of Tialeigh, might be a factor tending to make the sentences concurrent instead of consecutive. But I really know very little about sentencing law.

TIAHLEIGH Palmer’s foster mother callously lied to police about the schoolgirl’s murder to protect her family and lifestyle as she didn’t want to lose her “breadwinner” husband, court has heard.

I'm prepared to be disappointed but this woman deserves to receive the maximum sentence possible! Tiah was a child and in her care, for these reasons it should automatically be a higher sentence for perjury and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
She's a danger to children! JMO

well spotted, PS...... 'Judge Craig Chowdhury said he found it hard to understand why she didn’t come forward earlier after Tiahleigh was “left like the carcass of an animal just dumped on the riverbank”.'

Maybe Chowdhury is going to come down hard......:please: ..

It is a bloody disgrace. Can this sentence be appealed? This is not justice!

  • #1,298
She still has to apply for parole. Lets hope she does not get it after six months. Scum

Clare Barnes says suspended after 6 months whereas this ABC article says eligible for parole after 6 months. Which is it?
