Poor Tiah, she never had a chance

WTF - he committed a sex offence before he came to Australia at aged 14 years.

An audit was done after Taihleigh went missing and they were still approved to care for children.

Absolutely beggars belief, doesn't it? And seeing him carrying her coffin in that vid

Isn't this the second time he's 'collapsed' as well

POLICE used CCTV scanning technology only available in the UK during the hunt for Tiahleigh Palmer’s killer............

“The family gave us a very plausible version – that she was dropped off at school,” he said. “We then collected in excess of 50,000 hours of CCTV.”
Insp Hansen said they did not have the ability to scour through 50,000 hours of CCTV for Tiahleigh or Thorburn’s blue Ford Falcon................

Insp Hansen said police flew the footage to London where local police used an algorithm to scan it for Tiahleigh and Thorburn’s car.
“We had video of Tiahleigh walking and doing dancing … and they looked at the biomechanics of her movements and gait,” he said.
“They were able to look at that and look at vehicle shapes and we were confident … that we did not pick her or Rick’s vehicle up (on CCTV).”
Detectives also tracked the path of a truck that also drove past Tiahleigh’s school the morning Thorburn claimed to have dropped her at the gate.
The court heard Thorburn lied about dropping her off – he had murdered her the night before – and police were able to prove the lie by following the truck in relation toits proximity to Rick’s blue car.

The truck did not pull into the school and footage showed the blue car maintained the same distance from it.

Brit technology put killer in frame

Thanx soso, I’m thinking this tracking technology was used in Karen Ristevski’s case as well.

I’m starting to warm to our big brother and his brilliant technology.

So we have heard collapsed twice -
That letter...grrrr
The sentence will only be numbers to ME ..............I will not be able to live with this much longer and I don't know how anyone with a conscience could.

I was supposed to protect you and offer you a good life and good future when no one else wanted to.
It did not matter about her naughtiness you could not help but love her.

'I was supposed to protect you': Child killer Rick Thorburn's confession letter

Beggar belief...

Really makes us wonder about the torn underwear - and nothing else - that Tiah was found in.

Unsure if I believe any of that letter. Think he just wrote what he thought the judge wanted to read...or what someone told him to write. If he hadn't of been caught, I think he would be living his life happily without any remorse or regret.

Oh yeah.
I don't believe a word of it.
"Richard explained they would do things like they normally do. He told the family 'we have to protect Trent, we need to keep a story to ourselves that she went to school [the following day]'," Mr Heaton said.
Rick told them: "I have her hidden and I'm going to get rid of her tomorrow night. I'm going to leave home tomorrow morning, as if I'm going off to school as if I'm going to collect some car parts.

Mr Heaton told the court Thorburn had told his wife: "Go to bed. Tomorrow will be a normal day."

Was he protecting Trent? Or was he protecting himself? I wonder.
How many fronts was Tiah being abused on? She had a 'crush' on Trent, yet kept running away from the house. Not something a young girl would typically do when they have a crush.

Tiahleigh Palmer's grandmother has claimed the schoolgirl had the opportunity to leave an alleged incestuous 'relationship' with her foster brother, but chose to stay because she had a 'crush' on him.

I have always felt that Trent admitting that he had had sex with her and thought she was pregnant could have panicked him, because then it may have come out that he was assaulting her too.

I have always thought he assaulted and murdered Tiah and was protecting no one except his own arse and income.

Tiahleigh Palmer’s fate was sealed once she met the Thorburns

Does make you wonder SA

Despite eventually pleading guilty, Thorburn still has not helped investigators.
"I'd love to hear from his own mouth what he did and why he did it," Inspector Hansen said.
"If Rick was doing something he'd look after himself before he looks after his family."

Thorburn will not be eligible for parole until September 2036, by which time he will be 76 years old.

He's been jailed before and has a criminal history, yet still managed to get a Blue Card to look after Tialeigh Palmer. The high profile case has raised questions about how Rick Thornburn was approved by the system, before he killed the 12-year-old.

Tiah didn’t fall through any bloody cracks, that’s a cop out.
These checks should have been rigorously scoured before any children came a bulls roar near him.
What? It’s too hard? JUST DO IT!

No cracks just total stupidity and incompetence.

THIS MUST NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN and the laws must change yesterday.

Anger rising over Tiahleigh killer's potential parole

But child safety advocates and fellow foster carers have voiced their anger that his life sentence may not, in fact, be for life.

A 60 Minutes exclusive interview with Tiahleigh's mother Cindy Palmer, 'Betrayal' airs this Sunday on 60 Minutes, after The Voice on Channel 9.
Thorburn is on suicide watch in Gatton Prison and will be eligible for parole in 2036, after serving 20 years in jail.

Not only has he been jailed before ..... he has three pages of criminal history.

Seems to me that any and all criminal history should be a major consideration when considering the calibre of person that a foster child is placed with. Is a criminal the kind of person that we want children to be placed with? As well, do we want our tax dollars given to criminals, especially foster-parent-criminals (any more than they already are when we assist them with legal defence and house them in jails)? I think not.

Despite having three pages of criminal history, Thorburn was passed a working with children check, receiving what is known as a Blue Card in Queensland.
A report recommends more crimes should disqualify people from holding Blue Cards but 10 months on from its release the Queensland Government is yet to change the criteria or say when it will.
